I have sons close to Stevens age. I can't imagine the ache.

I don't think Steven just walked away from his life and his family and all that he believed.

Because they haven't found his cell phone or thank goodness a body I believe Steven is alive.

When I looked over the timeline I noticed that we rarely know Steven's whereabouts at night. From about 12/8 or 12/9 until the time he disappeared. With the exception of his neighbor,John, who saw him last at about 10:30pm, as Steven was leaving his house.
I think he could have been gigging as a roadie/advance guy for a band.He had just done two roadie jobs for Dorsey. I wonder if the driving around could have been connected to this ? If he was doing advance work for a band, he would have needed to use his own vehicle. The reason he didn't mention it might be that he didn't think his family would be thrilled ? Looking at a map, could a band have played in,say, Provo, and then he drove back, buying fast food first in Springville, then in Nephi ? Is Provo a college town ?
That last night, the band could have been playing in the Vegas area. It does explain the late hour that he set out that Saturday night ? I wonder if he was going to get paid in Henderson ?
For someoe who's into music, this would have seemed like a great deal.He could have hooked up either through Craigslist, or someone he actually met when he worked as a roadie. JMO.... which is not worth much.

I think Paul Doxey would have had to mention that he'd been sending Steven to get great RoxDox gigs in Ruby Valley ;)

But you're right. We know little of his evenings.

Well....we would know one more fact, if someone (with a bit of pull) could find out about that "ward temple night" date/time ;)
I continue to shout into the wind.

Mark Hacking lived in the same house as his wife, and she had no idea that he was smoking, attending raves, and hanging out in sketchy places. In fact, no one knew and few of the people he was hanging out with really came forward until after he had confessed. One person didn't even know it was the same person b/c he had really never hung out with Mark sober and in a room with light. I know Steven did not kill his wife and dismember her, but my point is, the times that we don't know what he was doing, he could very well have been doing any number of things.

If he was with Doxey or helping him I think we would know that. There is something that we need to find out about Steven, and won't until we get his name out there more! Spring Break is coming...I think my family and I need a road trip. :)

Laytonian,
The hours fit, and it's just the kind of thing he would have liked. I think the Ruby Valley trip was,of course, a detour ; he really did want to visit the ranch. But, the hours fit , especially that last night, when he left St.George at around 10:30, and showed up in Vegas the next morning. It could also explain that comment about " maybe going to Sacramento", that no one could figure out. Makes sense if the band was going to play there. Also, those coats in his car ? Could have been for the guys he was with ; the band. That sounds like something he would do.
This was something he had done before, and it's very possible IMO.

You can't hide a band (unless you're *really* unsuccessful - ha ha). The idea is to publicize who you are. Plus, he left his guitar behind in St George.

CONCRNED,
I don't think I wrote that Steven was helping Paul Doxie, or working for his band at that time. I think he may well have hooked up with another band, and was working as a roadie/advance guy for the band.
No indeed,we don't know what he was doing at night. But, there is one thing I know for sure : people have patterns. We all do. And when someone vanishes,it is their patterns that can often point the way to what might have happened. Steven Koecher had worked as a roadie before. This is a fact....

Laytonian,
" You can't hide a band". No, of course not. But, I do NOT think that Steven performed in a band.I said that he probably got work as a roadie/adavance man for a band.Huge difference.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood.

About the only place he'd have been, that hired bands, was in Elko or Wendover, Nevada.....so it wouldn't be too hard to find out who hired a roadie to show up there and work for one night???

Well....not quite on the road, though.
Doxey is a medical doctor in St George who also serves on the ward bishopric, and has the band that occasionally plays. It sounded like they played right in town, so needed someone to help do the heavy lifting.

Hmmm, he could have hooked up with a gig job on craigslist. Yes, I know he just did the heavy liting, and that is probably what he found a gig doing. And not just in Elko or Wendover, because we really don't know where he was at night during his travelling period.
I personally like this theory , because it fits with something he did before. But, I'm not married to it. Come up with something better, and I'm all ears...

I think the key point is "he was only gone one night"....and drove his own car.

Lot of bands play one night ; it's a "one night stand" -- a roadie who does advance work may well drive his own car. I don't mean a well known band, more like a band that played dives...

Okay.
I see them picking up a drunk who's already there to tote the stuff inside...but I'll let you have the last word.
Just trying to bump ideas.

This would make sense of Las Vegas. Maybe he found a job at one of the casino venues.

Though I don't see why he wouldn't tell his family if that's what he was doing. Maybe he thought they were going to disown him anyway?

Or if he found a job in Vegas, why would he abandon his car?
Wouldn't he need it to get to work?

Are you sure? Outside of teenaged girl groupies, I can't think of any.

IMO, it's a step up from running off to join the circus - and you probably don't know anyone who's done that either!
