Dear Websleuths Members,

On behalf of the management and moderators on Websleuths THANK YOU for doing EXACTLY what Websleuths is meant to do.

This is just the beginning. I have a feeling LE is going to be coming forward more often asking for your help.

To each and everyone one of you THANK YOU.

If you all haven't seen the MSM news coverage with our very own LEO Detective MMarty - check out the link on post #1330!

I initially just read the report, but I just had a chance to go back and watch the video. I didn't realize (until seeing the video) that MMarty credited WS'rs with finding the tee shirt design! We're just gettin' down with our bad selves here!

ETA: here is the link
http://www.ktvn.com/story/28273317/nevada-investigators-seek-information-in-1992-homicide-case

ETAA: We are at 194 on our missing persons submissions in just over one week!

Thanks! I got info with the R/O and MMarty's post number confirmation on the alpha list.
I will keep adding them to the list and note the R/O - as the list will be still be valuable to posters for a reference to eliminate duplicates too.

Rather than clog up the thread with me posting the submission number - I will just thank the post with the submission on it from here on out (like I have been doing with the Detectives posts).
Your a famous artist, Steleheart! :D

Have we seen a picture of the dog collar? I ask this because, are we sure that it is a dog collar and not part of a backpack? See post #1071 pictures of backpack straps. Perhaps this is a question for the detectives? Finally caught up with the entire day's thread from yesterday. Another few observations. Muffet's photos of the model.... In one, is the model wearing a small backpack? See blow up photo. Reading an article on Kitson the artist, I see the word "paint", I think artist, I think paint, I think moving blanket with paint on it. In 1989 Kitson would have been 50 years old; possibly the outer range of our victim. Could this guy have worked for/with Kitson and maybe that's why he had a backpack or tee?

Just throwing thoughts out there. No theories. Would help to know more about the "dog collar", whether the paint was tested to know what "kind" of paint, associates of Kitson. Has anyone checked the Secretaries of State websites for the history of the company that sold the backpacks. California? Nevada? Let me know if you need help with that?

I am wondering if the backpack and the graphic of the hawk image were not originally together. She says it was upcycled and in my circle of art friends it means to repurpose something or add to it or change it into something useful. So the company that made the back pack, may not have had the hawk image on it. The seller may have put it there, but I don't know that for sure, just putting that out there as a suggestion. We may have to get feedback from her to find that out. Also concerning the tee shirt, if Jim designed the logo and then decided to sell it on the shirts, he most likely worked with a company that did for him, meaning he may have farmed it out and had them printed up. If he was new to it, he may have hand silked screened them in the beginning. Lots of artist started out doing the grunt work themselves and then when the demand was greater, they farmed it out. Once again only some thoughts on it. I noticed the weave on the original shirt the detectives posted and the weave is a good quality, it is possible it was a sweat shirt quality?

I went back and looked at the backpack again and it looks like the graphic is part of the bag. So maybe she just cleaned it up and called it upcycled. Anyway it might be beneficial to find out how he went about getting this tee shirt design manufactured or if he was hand silks screening it in the beginning.

I PM'd mmarty the links to LadyN's post finding the raccoon tshirt and my subsequent comparison image post, stressing that this was a group effort to identify the artist and find the contact information for his widow, etc. So yes they know about the artist now, or will next time he signs on if they haven't read page 46 forward already.

They read here, so I think so....

To be fair, I don't even work outside the home and I have a hard time keeping up. So like I said, I PM'd him the info to be on the safe side. fingers crossed the info will be helpful.

Thank you, GGE.

Skully, I know they read here but they haven't mentioned anything about the artist so I wasn't sure if they had read those particular pages. :)

Didn't someone say the widow had a FB page? Or I'm I remembering it wrong? I don't use FB anymore, so I can't check, but they could reach out to her there and show her the graphic found on the backpack. She may be a good source for them tracking down stores, and such.

LOTS OF SPECULATION.
1991 Was the second year Burning man was held in Black rock NV. It was held in San Francisco's Bakers beach in the years prior to 1990, in 1990 the police ended the burning of the man and it was relocated to the location it is held now. It used to be a free event but now tickets are hundreds of dollars. It starts the last monday every august and ends the first Monday of Sept (labor day) every year. ..it just had me wondering about the October caller ,the timing the location and the car with Oklahoma tags. Also interesting abut this burning man non sense is that 1991 is the first year of the art car and the very first art car was a 1978 oldsmobile cutless from San Francisco. This is only good if the Oklahoma plated car was at burning man because the two cars are a lot alike so people might remember someone driving a car that resembled the art car and comparing how the earthquake damage compared to a car that looked like it in style. http://laughingsquid.com/the-504-pm-earthquake-car-burning-mans-first-art-car-on-display/

Congratulations on having all your amazing work recognized! I have not followed your thread, so am doing a fly-bye to give credit where due. WS rocks, and you all here rock!

Keep up your good work. It is appreciated beyond mere words.

I'm guessing the t-shirt might not be the focus now. They asked for help finding the shirt origin and the design of the shirt, and they have that information now. I'm sure they'll revisit the artist trail at some point. But there are many other pieces of the puzzle that need to be investigated too.

True. The importance of the shirt right now is to get some eyes on it and for someone to recognize it, hopefully, "my missing _____ used to wear that shirt". Or even if someone else owned one, where they purchased it. We may be able to find out where our UID was from. Finding a label would be useful as well.

Mark Pack Works is not a corporation name or limited liability company/limited partnership name in the state of California database.

http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/

I'm looking to see if California requires registration of DBA's (doing business as), and if there is a dababase lookup for those like my state does.

Also, can we look up state tax ID numbers for other businesses? Not sure that one would be available though.

It doesn't appear that the Mark Pack Works logo is trademarked though.

But I guess it wouldn't necessarily indicate it was a trademark even if it was.
