The answer is no. The boy on train definitely does not appear to me to be AVonte. There is a resemblance but the young man on train looks at least 3 yrs. older than Avonte. Avonte looks very young for his age, as per all pix.

This is actually quite common for autistic children as they have comorbid gastrointestinal issues that preclude them from getting all nutrients needed to grow properly.

Most tend to be on the thinner, smaller side.
Please advise with suggestions on how to post anonymously to NYPD if you can.

Thank you.

I disagree, my son has mild autism he is 14, and right at 6 ft. tall , he also looks more like 17 than 14, so not all autistic are small or have younger looking features.. that being said I totally agree that the pictures side by side look a lot alike..jmo

Im thankful the person at least took a picture, but wish people would not be afraid to take even more action. Wondering why he didnt maybe ask a transit officer to check with the boy or ask him if he is the missing boy and at least try to do a little more.

I think people are somewhat afraid to confront a person like this.

Because even if it was him, now he could be anywhere again. So frustrating.

He was a kid doing something he wasn't supposed to. See TravelingBug's post #536.

Thank you. That explains it.

JMO. I do think that it could be him. When looking at the 2nd missing photo, it looks much closer to him. His hair above the sideburns have an indent, and his picture on train has that indent too. His lower part of nose looks similar, etc. Oh, and he does not appear to be clean shaven, like his facial hair is growing out.

I also agree about the shirt or jacket being oversized like maybe he got that somewhere to keep warm.

But mainly why I think it could be him, is the way he is staring like with a blank stare. It doesnt seem like he is going to any particular place.

I hope this is him and they find him today.

P.S. In NYC when I lived there, there were always examples of transient people "riding the trains" to keep warm and for other reasons. They sometimes had no particular place to go and would ride the trains. When a train line would shut down for the evening at last stop, there were examples where conductors had to vacate the train of a transient that fell asleep. I know he is not a transient, and just trying to show that people sometimes do this with no particular place to go.

NOT him... :(

The photo emerged Wednesday and even Avonte's father said there was a "close likeness."
But police located the individual who was photographed and determined it is NOT Avonte, who has been missing since he walked out of his Queens high school on Oct. 4.
“It was not Avonte. This person whose photo it was, was in the precinct with his parents," a police spokeswoman told the Daily News.

Darn it. The likeness was uncanny. I was sure hoping it was him.

Hogwash,

While you are correct that not ALL autistic children do look smaller for their age, I did say most children with regressive type autism have failure to thrive issues.

That does NOT mean they do not eventually grow to the size they were biologically destined to be.

I did not want to veer off into a discussion between distinctions between regressive type autism and those autistic from birth.

In any event, it was confirmed not to have been Avonte.

The searching and praying and posting and speculating goes on.....

Honestly I'd be a little surprised if this was the only time he's been mistaken for Avonte. He does have an incredible likeness. Bravo to the young man who took the picture for taking some initiative and at least trying.

Oh no. :(

What a roller coaster ride. I can't even begin to imagine how Avonte's parents are feeling.

Amazing how quickly the NYPD found this look-a-like. This is what worries me about not seeing Avonte on any of the cameras. They're everywhere....

I feel very sad for them too.I pray they do get answers about what happened to him soon and not have to wait for years not knowing what happened to him.

Actually the boy and his mother came into a police station and identified himself as the boy in the picture lol. That must have been surreal for them seeing his picture plastered all over the news.

I know, I've been thinking the worst too. And I'm usually the glass half full person.

I was so eager to get online tonight, hopeful that Avonte had been found...only to meet with the bad news that the subway rider wasn't him.

Pttthhhh! Sorry. that's all I can say. :(
