I always thought that outdoors-smart people wouldn't get lost in the woods, succumb to hypothermia, drown, etc. But I moved a few years ago to an outdoorsy-type area and I was pretty shocked how many stories come out about it happening: people who have lived in the mtns for years getting lost during a hike, etc. So I still think there is a chance that he was slightly drunk, got hypothermia...
but maybe it is more likely that:
He could have been hit by a car.
picked up by someone.

The various news reports about this couple have been sketchy and making sense of this case requires reading multiple stories from www.ncpr.org and the adirondackdailyenterprise.com as well as previous stories in the Press Republican.
This couple, according to news reports, allegedly broke into not only his father's home but also the seasonal camp in Conifer where he was found. There are two interesting posts under a recent story at ncpr.org where a former Tupper Lake resident who now lives in Malone claims to have seen this couple in a bar parking lot in Malone the day before they went missing . Read the posts below the article for more info. Here is the article: http://www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/story/19559/20120323/two-tupper-lake-residents-missing-since-earlier-this-week-found

Then there is the latest article out of the Press Republican: http://pressrepublican.com/0100_news/x1361427138/Police-Tupper-Lake-pair-under-the-influence-of-drugs

So where is the gun? Why has it disappeared?

Thank you for the links....very interesting...esp. the comments.
Could Colin have crossed paths with these people that evening? I would imagine police are looking into that.

I believe the police are conducting an investigation into the participants at the party.
I know they tried to ping his phone and could not locate it.
The items they found do not include a shoe.
Colin is a good kid who went to an underage party. Not a great choice but no reason to judge him based on that single choice.
There are so many missing pieces, the family has a facebook page trying to piece things together. http://www.facebook.com/#!/colingillissearchupdates

Why would 'ckean' mention judging Colin? I haven't seen a post which does that here. How does 'ckean' know that the item found wasn't a shoe and why all the secrecy about what it was? WHEC printed that it was a shoe and then redacted it. It is cached by Google."So far investigators have found two of his belongings one of which was a shoe". See it for yourself at this link. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:uY-Zub61q_UJ:brockport-spencerport.whec.com/news/news/64625-students-return-spring-break-shocked-classmates-disappearance+%22have+found+two+of+his+belongings+one+of+which+was+a+shoe%22&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=usAnd it obviously wasn't his phone and he wasn't seen wearing a jacket. If the other item was his wallet, that begs the question, what caused him to drop his wallet and license? Losing a shoe would suggest a struggle of some sort or being struck by a car. Who did Colin last call on that night? Did the ride he said he was waiting for ever show up? Surely law enforcement knows from phone records who he called.

I can see why you misunderstood my comment. I am not suggesting that anyone here is judging him. I am close friends with Colin s girlfriends family. I came to read the threads to se if some of the suggestions about his disappearance would be helpful. I respect this community. There are some useful suggestions. The second reason I came here was to drive people to the facebook page. The family would like it shared widely.

State Police Search For Missing Student

[quote]State Police are asking for help in their search for an 18-year-old Tupper Lake student who went missing last month.

Colin Gillis has been missing since March 11. On that day, he ate dinner at his parents' home, watched a basketball game and then left for a party with friends near Tupper Lake, troopers said.

Gillis was last seen walking down State Route 3, near the Tupper Lake and Piercefield town line at 2 a.m., troopers said.

Roughly 1,000 volunteers and the Department of Environmental Conservation have helped search for Gillis, who was home on spring break from the State University at Brockport.

welcome ckean! :cheer:

here is a new article as well:

A $10,000 reward is being offered for the safe return of missing teen Colin Gillis.

The reward will be payable to anyone with relevant and useful information that leads to the location and/or safe return of Gillis, an 18-year-old pre-med student from Tupper Lake.

According to a press release, the reward won't be payable to people who assisted or participated in his disappearance, who accidentally locate him or who work for an organization involved in the location of missing people.

The reward is limited to a minimum of $10,000 total if multiple people claim it.

It is set to expire March 4, 2013, but may be extended at the discretion of the people offering it, Robert Gillis and Barbara Bonneau.

Information about how to submit a claim for the reward can be obtained by calling state police at 518-897-2000.

Bumping for Colin.
I hope this family can get some answers soon!

http://www.whec.com/news/stories/s2543358.shtml

"...Despite a massive search this week, 18-year-old Colin Gillis is still missing. ... have found two of his belongings one of which was a shoe...."

The above quote was in the story when I first read it, but the story has since been updated to remove the quote about the shoe...I wonder why?...was the information incorrect or did the police not want that information to be released publicly? I did not get a screen cap of the original story...what I quoted above is what I got on search results page when I googled Colin Gillis shoe....the story today says nothing about a shoe.

"...Forest rangers and family members are still working to find a missing student..."

I am starting to be really worried that foul play was involved...what happened to Colin?

http://www.whec.com/news/stories/s2535269.shtml

"..News10NBC talks to the person who may have been the last to see the missing Brockport student..."

I do not think this witness had anything to do with Colin's disappearance...in fact the witness was traveling with his elderly mother in the car and drove straight to the police station after seeing Colin.

What happened?

I wonder where he was going with his elderly mother at 1:45 am. Seems odd.

Agree...it is odd. But doesn't the fact that he went to police himself rule him out? I wonder if police interviewed his mom?

I wonder who the last partygoer was that saw him walk out of the party? Has anyone confirmed if he was drinking? drunk? disoriented? What are his friends at the party saying happened?
