I believe it's a Federal crime as it is stealing from US Postal Service mail. I wonder how many charges she could face; Theft of US mail, Robbery of a child, robbery of a disabled person,,,

Don't know. Throw the book at her. I am quite certain that if others were doing it they were all in cahoots.

ETA: Grand larceny in the fourth degree; http://abcnews.go.com/US/volunteer-charged-stealing-money-girl-lost-family-fire/story?id=37244126
punishable by up to 4 years in state prison; http://www.new-york-lawyers.org/grand-larceny-sentencing-guidelines.html

She will not do well in prison - most of the women there are mothers...

MOO

I know I hope they catch all these terrible people maybe they need to open cards in a room with CCTV it's terrible to have to resort to that but I don't see what other solutions there are.

This volunteer organization obviously needed something like cameras. This woman was able to take home mail/cards (and apparently there could be others). Was anybody checking what these volunteers were taking home? We could be talking about a lot of money. If little girl got over a million in cards, even if only 10% of people put in $10 each, that means a million of dollars was send. Given that kind of money-that's a lot of temptation. Did anybody even background check or screen the volunteers? Or do they just show up to sort the mail? That's pretty much asking for trouble.

Wednesday, Jennica Duell pleaded not guilty to five counts of making false declarations before a grand jury...

Her testimony led to another man, Robert Butler, being charged in connection with the fire. Those charges were later dropped...

It's possible Jennica Duell could spend 25 years in prison on these additional charges alone. Her trial is scheduled to start in May.

Happy to report Safyre just got a new hand and foot and is doing great. She is an inspiration.

"Since her story went viral, Safyre has been honored at a number of events and continues to stay busy. On Saturday, she's riding on a firetruck during a local 4th of July parade.

This week, on Facebook, Dolder shared some wonderful news about her niece. She said last week Safyre got a new hand and foot.

"It was the best day ever," Dolder said. "She said she is on cloud nine. Loving the glow she has."

The picture has more than 21,000 likes.

"Safyre is doing great," Dolder told FOX 5 News. "She's getting around great."

[h=1]Man set free after facing death penalty sues police[/h]
Robert Butler, who faced a potential death penalty after being charged with setting a 2013 fire that killed a man and three children in Schenectady, has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against five of the federal agents and Schenectady detectives who were involved in his arrest.

Butler, 31, spent nine months in jail before he was set free in February 2014 without explanation from law enforcement authorities. His release from custody came after information emerged that a St. Johnsville man, Edward Leon, who had a grudge against the man killed in the fire, had lied to detectives and his friends when he denied being at the scene of the early morning fire and hastily driving away as the Hulett Street residence erupted in flames.
