I don’t find it troubling. I kind of get it. He was 70 and didn’t want to be alone. Sometimes older people don’t waste time when their own is ticking short. The sister was a widow too. I don’t think they planned it but I could see how it might happen.I just learned about this case, so sorry it has been posted or discussed before, but I found a letter from the victim's own sister who supports KC's innocence and points the finger at the husband instead:

I don't know what to believe, but the relationship between the husband and the victim's sister seems troubling to me.
These sisters all seem estranged or something. Weird relationship.
