Decapitated and dismembered body of a man, 33, is found in luxury Manhattan apartment block | Daily Mail Online

The decapitated and dismembered body of a self-made millionaire has been found in his luxury Manhattan apartment by his heartbroken sister, and cops are now hunting for a professional killer who cut up the 33-year-old's corpse with an electric saw.

The victim has been identified as Fahim Saleh, a millionaire tech entrepreneur who moved into his $2 million Lower East Side apartment late last year.

The alarm was raised by one of Saleh's siblings on Tuesday, after she became concerned because she had not heard from him for a day.

She went to the seventh floor unit to check on her brother and found his dismembered body in his home.

He had been cut up with a power saw, which was lying nearby and was still plugged in. Police sources said the body parts had been sorted into different plastic bags.

Police believe they have surveillance footage of the suspect entering the building on Monday and then using the elevator.

Video reportedly shows the gloved suspect wearing a hat and mask covering his face, and carrying a bag. He waited to enter the elevator with Saleh.

'The perp had a suitcase. He was very professional,' one police source told the Daily News.

What a disturbing crime. His poor sister having to find that scene; that is something you would never get past. Hopefully with the camera footage, maybe local surveillance can help catch the killer. I’m sickened by this for everyone. He was such a bright, young, talented entrepreneur.

Makes me wonder if the killer was planning on coming back, and when the sister discovered the body - it all fell apart

I hadn’t thought of that when reading it. Wonder if something made him flee. What purpose could his positioning around the apartment serve? I don’t ever want to type these things out. It’s so awful.

Saleh floor plan
Here’s the floor plan (supposedly) of his apartment. There are two doors to the staircase, accessible from either end of the apartment. Hypothetically, a person could quickly exit the apartment via the staircase, unseen.

Ride-apps boss 'found dismembered' in New York

The entrepreneur was best known for his role in creating popular start-ups in Nigeria and Bangladesh.

Police have not publicly commented on the case or any identity but Gokada, one of the firms Saleh co-founded, tweeted to confirm his death .

"We are deeply saddened to inform you about the sudden and tragic loss of our founder and CEO, Fahim Saleh," the firm said on Wednesday.

An unnamed source in law enforcement told the New York Post the crime scene looked like a "professional" killing.

The 33 year old, who was the son of Bangladeshi immigrants, created his first company while still in high school.
He went on to co-found the ride company Pathao, which is popular in Bangladesh and Nepal, in 2015.

More recently he helped found Nigerian motorbike taxi app Gokada, but the company faced a setback after authorities in Lagos banned motorbike taxis earlier this year .

Hussein M Elius, who co-founded Pathao with Saleh, told Bangladesh's Daily Star newspaper: "Fahim believed in the potential for technology to transform lives in Bangladesh and beyond.

"He saw the promise in us when all we had was a common purpose and a shared vision. He was, and will forever remain, an incredible inspiration for Pathao and our entire ecosystem."

it says in the article that the killer might have fled when the sister interrupted the dismemberment(!!!), and they were looking to see if the killer could have fled through another exit. how horrific and terrifying for all involved. this is obviously a hit, (he had a suitcase with him! :O) and i hope we get some more info on what in the world happened here.

Good Lord, I cannot image coming across a crime scene like that, especially of your own brother. What a beautiful family - my heart breaks for them. Hopefully there are plenty of surveillance cameras around in a luxury setting like that.

My amateur opinion goes in the opposite direction.

Professionals would probably know that there is little point in making a body disappear unless one can also make all the associated blood, tissue etc. disappear as well. They would know that it is extremely difficult to do so, especially given how the body was treated.

Likewise, they would know that the longer they remained at the site, the greater the chances of someone else coming to the apartment, and when leaving, there is a chance of someone noticing a stained suitcase.

Rather, I think that a professional hit would involve say, quickly shooting the victim upon him opening the door, then leaving equally as fast.

In short, this seems like an amateur "hit", or a rage / revenge motive killing. I would be looking at any present and former business partners.

Motive?

I wonder if in some way it was connected to his personal life?

I would agree, though personal life can be broad and include business partners, romantic interests, family, friends etc.

One other aspect is that the victim was not only financially successful, but also an immigrant from an underdeveloped country. Even with in developed countries, financial success can lead to pressure from relatives to share or under some coercion, to "share" the wealth.

In a developing country, where families are large there maybe an increased number of people with expectations that sharing will occur. Likewise, there could be an unrealistic understanding of the true level of the victim's financial success, which might lead to a belief that the victim was "holding out".

In short, was the victim being approached by extended relatives, friends, relative of relatives and friends of friends with expectations that significant amounts of wealth would be "shared"?

Prominent tech entrepreneur found decapitated in ‘professional’ killing at his NYC luxury condo

A 33-year-old tech entrepreneur was found dismembered in a grisly murder at his multi-million dollar luxury apartment in Manhattan, New York with reports indicating some of his final moments may have been captured on CCTV.

According to the New York Daily News, Mr Saleh’s body was found near an electric saw and contractor bags. He was left decapitated, with his limbs dismembered from the torso in what police sources described to the New York Post as a “professional” killing.

Mr Saleh can then be seen on the video reportedly walking out of the elevator on the floor where his apartment was located before falling to the ground. It was not immediately clear what caused the victim to collapse.

Neighbours said they watched as police escorted two women who came to the apartment after the killing, appearing “hysterical” and in “disbelief” before leaving with detectives. A mid-sized dog was also taken from Mr Saleh’s apartment.

Police have not yet released a motive in the killing. A press officer for the NYPD did not immediately return requests for comment.
