Some info on the station. It's in Harlem:

http://www.stationreporter.net/dtrain.htm

145th Street-Harlem (St. Nicholas Ave between 145th and 147th Streets) opened 9/10/1932: This station has 2 levels, the upper level is where the A (See A Lefferts and A Rockaway)and C trains stop, and the lower level is where the Concourse B and D trains stop here. There are 2 full time mezzanines, one at 145th street (4 street stairs available, one for each corner), and the other at 147th street (2 street stairs). Each side has 3 stairs from mezzanine to the upper level, and 1 escalator from each mezzanine, directly down to the Uptown only side lower level (B/D) platform. There are no escalators from the Downtown side to upper level. Like many other IND stations when first opened, it had a full length mezzanine connecting both of today's mezzanines; this space is now used by the NYPD as a Transit Bureau District Office. Unknown to most people, there was also exits in the middle of the closed mezzanine, there actually is (what appears to be) an original 1932 IND sign on the Downtown, upper level side that sits overhead in the middle of the platform. To see this sign, you need to stand and face the north end it reads "exit to street". Outside of the station, on the street, a closed and slabbed over staircase still sits on the Northwest corner of 146th Street and St. Nicholas. The upper level is 4 tracks and 2 island platforms; however the lower level has 3 tracks and 2 island platforms. The Uptown platform on the lower level is wider than the Downtown platform, the possible IND plan was to make the Concourse line in the Bronx as 4 tracks, but plans were scaled back down to 3. The Concourse line opened a year later after the first IND line (1933). This station is where midday and evening B trains terminate on the middle track before returning back to Brooklyn. During AM and PM rush hours, the same middle track is used by D Concourse express trains in the peak direction traveled only (AM Southbound and PM Northbound). From this point down to 59th Street/Columbus Circle, there are 4 lines (A (See A Lefferts and A Rockaway) , B, C, D) running. From 145th the train enters a maze of complex switches, but is actually easier to figure things out when you ride area between these points a few times each way.

The D train goes to Yankee Stadium, Coney Island, etc. Looks like he was found at 1:13 am.

I think he was in the military at one time. Very few African American men are clean shaven by choice as it can very irritating to their skin. The few AA men I know that are clean shaven are either in the military, was in the military or work in a somewhat conservative field. (IMHO)

With that thought I sent the Facebook link to a friend who was stationed in Camp Lejune in the 90s to see if perhaps he recognized him. (He's AA also). And since my friend is the life of the party - knows everyone type I asked if he would post it and ask around also.

Hopefully this will help.

Jerry Dolphin looks similar to me as well. Here is more info on him...

it is believed that at the time of his disappearance, he was in grave threat of bodily harm and subsequently was killed. Police have developed information that Dolphin was the victim of foul play. They believe there are individuals who know what happened or can corroborate information police have about the case to help identify those responsible for the crime.

Investigators have been continually working on the case but have not developed a case solid enough to obtain an arrest. However, police believe that Dolphin's disappearance was unlawfully caused.

I'm thinking Jerry is probably not our John Doe because of the timeline. Jerry was last seen Mid October on 1994. John Doe was found June 1997. The police believe Jerry was a victim of foul play so whatever happened likely happened soon after he disappeared, unless he was hiding and whoever was looking for him eventually found him.

We do not know why John Doe was found on the tracks. Did he slip and fall? was he pushed? was it suicide? were drugs &/or alcohol involved? was he robbed and he fell during a struggle and that is why he had no id on him? (The medical examiner did not answer my questions regarding this....)

Jeffery Dash was last seen March 1993. His vehicle was located along highway I95 in New Rochelle, New York abandoned with blood stains on interior. So again I think whatever happened to him, happened right away, and he is not likely our John Doe.

bcf, thank you for your interest in this case! Please keep searching!

Hilary Hayes ~ NamUs now says "Fingerprint information is available elsewhere" (it was previously not available). We only have fingerprints for John Doe maybe he should be submitted so we can rule him out for sure?

He was a member of our US military, or so his tattoo leads us to believe. He died in June of 1997. Yet, all these years later, nobody can tell us his name? He deserves to go home. Surely somebody knows who he is? Marines are brothers for life, or at least that is what they say. So finding his name should not be this hard.

Possibility, but perhaps a long shot  - Anthony Lofston http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/l/lofston_anthony.html

Height and weight are correct for our UID man. Anthony has an upper arm tattoo, though i cannot find a picture or description of it anywhere :/ Time frame fits: Anthony disappeared in 1994, three years before our gentleman was found in NYC. Perhaps enough time for a stint in the marines, or other service?

Wish I could find a better picture of Anthony. His cheekbones do look similar to the facial structure of our UID man, but I can't get a good look at his nose shape, and the lips look a little off (our Doe's mouth looks a bit wider horizontally, perhaps).

Might be worth a look into, at least as far as finding out what Anthony's tattoo was.

Thinking of this unidentified man... So sad that he died alone, and is still without his name and a place to rest among loved ones. :(

Anthony Lofton was suggested to me again on Facebook. I'm not sure why this one wasn't sent in but I am going to try emailing the detective handling his case to suggest the match.

6/23/14 marked another year since he was found, I'm hoping this will be the year he is identified!

I'm always glad to see Anthony Lofston's name being looked at, but due to the circumstances under which he disappeared I doubt it's him. He wasn't ever in the military and my guess is that he'll be found right here in the Wabash Valley.

It would be great if we could spread more his case among the USMC community. There's a USMC page in Reddit that seems to be very active: /r/USMC. Also, they have a Twitter account: https://twitter.com/USMC. Does anyone here volunteer to contact them? :)

I'm not all that great on twitter but I sent them a message (tweet?). It would be great if others would too...

Reached out some feelers to military active during that time to see who they know to ask.. fingers crossed..

Thank you! :) I don't have either a Twitter account or one on Reddit, but I could make one there if nobody else has.

FYI - I happened to be speaking with some Marines today (recruiters) and I ran this guy's tattoo past them. They agree he is most probably a Marine (as opposed to someone who was impersonating or otherwise getting a Marine tattoo) and they suggested I contact a group that handles identifying remains of POWs and soldiers who are MIA. I just sent that group (Jpac) an email with his Namus info on it.

I see in this thread the POW id avenue was looked at in 2011 so - cross your fingers!

Has anyone ever contacted the Dept. of Defense? or these guys http://reconfoundation.org/?

Before I forget: from what I've seen the tattoo is an EGA tattoo (eagle, globe, anchor) and sort of normal for those but it looks like it might be older or wasn't well done initially. Anyway, the "1st Force Recon" appears (to me) to be added later and probably was an add on after he finished that specialize training.

1st force appears to have spent a lot of time at Camp Pendelton. They have reunions according to some Google searches I did so I was trying to find a missing members type list but I didn't see one.

I have a tattooist friend; she's in the process of moving; but would like to ask for her opinion on it. We know he passed in 97; would be nice if we can figure out how old the tat is; if it was done in multiple sittings. I'm not sure how long it would take to do a piece that size. I feel he's about 28 years old; which would make him born around 1969. He would have joined at what 18? If so that would be around 1987. I have no military knowledge; would he have to have been a Marine 1st & how long?
According to below; he would have been at San Diego Camp Pendleton in 1st Force Recon

how to join the 1st force recon
Marine Force Recon
Force RECON Training - RECON Battalions remained as part of the USMC Divisions and continue to perform missions for the deployed USMC commander. BRC is open to Marines and Navy Hospital Corpsman.
Once you complete your training, the following RECON commands will become your new home:
• 1st Recon Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton.
• Force Recon Company, 1st Recon Battalion.
• Force Recon Company, 2nd Recon Battalion.
• 2nd Recon Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
• 3rd Recon Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan.
• 4th Recon Battalion (reserve), San Antonio, TX.
• 3rd Force Recon Company (reserve), Mobile, AL.
• 4th Force Recon Company (reserve), Alameda, CA.

I'm thinking the key to this is getting his photo in front of those groups. People trained with him so it's just a matter of getting him in front of the right person.

I agree on the age. He is definitely on the upper end IMHO.

I looked at NCIS's website (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) for missing persons or fugitives and didn't see anyone of interest. I also sent a message to to Reconnaissance Foundation FB page and asked them to include him in their main posts and/or website.
