I just found this nice article (written by a Deputy D.A. in a different county in NY) that helps to explain how the Grand Jury works in NY state. The Grand Jury will apparently be comprised of 23 local citizens, who sit on a variety of cases for about 20 days. They hear the evidence, and then make a decision to file an indictment (which happens 75% of the time in the county where the author works), dismiss the case (happens 7% of the time), remove the case to family court (in case of juvenile), or there's something called an SCI -- where the defendant can waive indictment. The decision of the Grand Jury is a majority decision (at least 12 out of 23) rather than unanimous.

At the Grand Jury, the defendant (or his lawyer) will testify.

The people who serve on a Grand Jury are generally those who can serve for the 20 day block of time - retirees, unemployed, those who work for the state and still get paid while serving, housewives (who don't have small children at home), etc.

According to this article, the Grand Jury proceedings are not open to the public. (Is that the appearance that's scheduled for next Thursday???)

I took it to mean bad-mouthing her, and the wording "in recent months" led me to believe it was after she died.

(However, when I first read it, the image that came to mind was running her down with the car or something -- which of course couldn't be right).

This is subject to varying percentages and equity equaling bail amount...as he was not granted an option of a high cash bond- just real estate. At minimum- that is 30,000 cash + 270,000 in equity :)

ETA: got the property records handy zweibel..?

Yep. It definitely says 'Chenango County District Attorney James Chamberlain'.......that's 2007.

Boy, he's come a long way.

Yes, that one is low. I have a much more reliable estimate, somewhere.....
 
I've just seen some old posts out there with Chenango locals complaining bitterly about the high cost of Chenango attorneys (though I don't think that's anything confined to Chenango, myself).

But I'm guessing a former assistant DA is not low-cost. And I'm guessing he is going to be good. He knows both sides of the law, so to speak, and he'll know what a jury made up of locals will like and - more importantly - what they'll hate. Unlike his client.

Not only that, but the kids probably aready know way more disturbing stuff than we do. Anything we say is 3rd hand at best, they have been in the midst of it all their lives.

I'm no expert, but it is possible to ascertain a time of death to within hours. But never usually with a person left outside for so long. That's why I believe the snow must have worked a small miracle for Jennifer. Unless LE has some other kind of evidence. I can't think what it would be though.

Maybe someone answered this already. I think that the blood found in the car was key in determining time of death.
