Most johns aren't going to shell out the sort of money these girls were charging for a strung out junky. This, of course, is not to say they weren't doing drugs, which in turn ate into their lifestyle funds. Am simply noting *one* of the *many* markers of the sex ring biz. Or... would you prefer I used the more PC oriented euphemism, "agency"?

It all depends on the type of drugs they are doing.
I've met coke addicts that looked as healthy as anyone out there, with no physical signs of addiction whatsoever.
Same thing with pharmaceutical opiate addicts.
Meth and Heroin addicts usually do look the part, specially after years of addiction, so just because a working girl doesn't look like a drug addict, it doesn't mean she isn't.

I know a person can drown just about anywhere, in a puddle. I do not think anyone in the past 50 years has been swept out , I think sooner or latter someone would spot you, to many people around, small boats, big boats. May is Long Daylight days.

Brooklyn kid, 19, swept out by waves at Long Beach, L.I. just hours after cop drives over sunbather

http://articles.nydailynews.com/2010-05-26/local/27065439_1_suv-brooklyn-cop

50 years eh?
Also, note this was a young fit kid who voluntarily went just waist deep in the water.
just imagine someone who was high on drugs or having hallucinations

That is why I was asking yesterday or the day before on here how she knew the driver. Was he recommended to her by other call girls? Were some of those call girls among the murdered?

People drown off of LI all of the time. Maybe he/she meant that no one has drowned without a body being recovered?

The body of the Brooklyn kid (Manuel Tiburcio) that was swept by the ocean hasn't been found as far as i know.
Anyone who thinks the ocean is not powerful enough to carry a body deep into the ocean so it can be eaten by sea predators, obviously doesn't know the power of the seas.

There are people who have been swept off by the ocean while walking on dry land, and have never been found. <edited out by poster>

He was found in Long Beach 5 days later. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Body-of-Missing-Swimmer-Found-on-Long-Beach-95215284.html

I grew up in Rockaway I know all about currents. I don't know why you're telling me to do my research. All I said is maybe that's what the other poster meant. I never said it wasn't possible

Thanks for the link.
I wasn't able to find the date he was found because the original article misspelled his name (not sure if it is Manuel or Emanuel)

Anyway, I am just going by what the poster wrote:

I do not think anyone in the past 50 years has been swept out

something which is clearly false.
The idea the SG could have walked into the ocean and been swept out to sea is not impossible or improbable as a lot of people here are suggesting.

I was researching the burial uses for burlap and found these. It seems to me there is some sort of ritualistic aspect of disposing of his victims. I would still like to know if the vics are wrapped (like mummies) or if they are stuffed into sacks like trash. These would have very diffrent meanings. Does any one have any confirmed info on this?

Ocean Burial:
The traditional burial shroud is a burlap bag, being cheap and plentiful, and long in use to carry cargo. The deceased is sewn inside and is weighted with rocks or other heavy debris to keep it from floating.

To squeamish to deflesh bones and leave them in a bucket of smelling rotting water? No worries, there are two other methods you can use to avoid that part. The first is to bury the animal. Bury it fairly deep so scavengers don’t smell it and run off with your precious bones. Depending on the size of the animal, skull, or bones you are burying, it will take three months to one year for all the skin and tissue to decompose and just leave the bone(s) behind. To make it easier to dig up a skeleton of a whole animal bury it it in a burlap sack. The bag has to be a natural coarse material and loosely woven in order for the bits to still decompose properly.

"Maureen Brainard-Barnes got the train from Connecticut to Long Island with friends on July 9 2007. That night she called a friend from the New York Port Authority Bus Terminal. She was upset and said she had been robbed of the money that she earned that day. She told her friend she was coming home. She never made it."

We know there were calls made to Melissa Barthelemy's sister, and possibly a call made to SG's mother. Do you think maybe, Maureen Brainard-Barnes was already in the hands of the killer, and was forced to make this phone call to her friend and say she had been robbed?

So true! I was introduced to its power on my first visit to Jones beach. I was actually just planning to wade out a bit and a big wave caught me and knocked me off balance. Next thing you know, I'm out at sea, so to speak. And every time I came up for air, I was further out. Didn't help that I was fully dressed and my clothes became impediments. TG my family was there or I woulda been fish food for sure!

There was a NY Times article last week that said the remains were found in burlap bags. That was after the 'wrapped in burlap' phrase had come into the mix:

" . . . Because those four victims were all sex workers and their bodies had all been dumped in burlap sacks, investigators suspect the same killer was responsible".

Hi guys, have missed the last day or so, hate it when your job gets in the way doing the real work. Anyway, it terms of SG and the driver scenario, the key is to find out whether or not SG was with the escort agency on the night she went missing. I know there are reports that her sister said SG worked for two agencies in the past but I don't think it was confirmed whether she was that night or night. And the reports of Lace Party Girls now being defunct are true, however, I can guarantee you they opened another agency with a different name. These people don't get busted and then say to themselves "oh well, I guess we have to get regualr jobs now." Anyway, in terms of SG using a legitimate car service - it simply wouldn't happen. Aside from having a driver, girls always use the driver as security/payment handler/mediator of sorts. No chance she would've taken a regular car service. The question is whether or not the person she was first busted with is the same guy that drove her that night, or was it another person, possibly from the agency. And the fact the driver left her, if true, suggests he and SG had a long working relationship, and they were comfortable with each other and the driver knew SG would eventually make it back. He wouldn't have been worried about being paid during the night.

thank you for answering this driver question. i had been wondering if they'd hire outside car service and thats a no.

what if the driver was a newer one or a fill in? obviously shannan was very upset that night and he couldn't get to her for whatever reasons.

what would make the driver think that in shannan's condition she back to new jersey from long island??

Whoa, internetgirl, I never even thought of this! I think it is a distinct possibility that that story was fed to her by the SK. It definitely seems odd that she would be robbed and apparently en route to home before she disappeared. Someone may have had her all along. Scary scary thought.

The 4 bodies were found in December, but not identified until Monday, January 24, 2011. The post by that John about being visited by LE was made on January 16, 2011, so it was before the identity of the bodies was known. I think the John just screwed up the name of "Carolina" and called her "Christina" in the post. I really want to know now if ALC was ever reported missing or not. That seems pretty important. Anyone found a missing poster or report for her??

Wait a minute, that may not be necessarily true. The public was made aware of the identities on January 24, 2011. Please believe that LE was aware of the identities before that date.

Think about it: Since we (the public) learned the identities on Jan 24th, it would make us think that the ME determined who ALL the victims were the day before or perhaps that morning. Most likely they didn't id the victims all on the same day. It's possible that one could have been id'd 48 hours after discovery. Another one may have taken 3 weeks to be id'd. I would think detectives begin investigating leads as soon as the id's are available.

I am sorry about that.
I just get irked by the amount of misinformation being thrown around by certain people here, people who obviously haven't bothered to read all the threads.
This case has been around for a long time and there is a lot of information to read and digest, but i think before making statements that confuse people, posters should take the time to read all information sources, otherwise, we all get more confused.

welcome to websleuths 77, this is how it goes sometimes. the best advice i can say is just ignore them. they'll figure out how to research on their own hopefully.

some just jump in a thread without knowing the gist of all that has been going on. it really should be up to them to up to date themselves, not the rest of the posters. the mods put links up for all the threads to cases, so the individual can catch up.

i understand your being irked, i too have been irked in the past. just ignore them and they hopefully will do their own research

**disclaimer** i am not siding with anyone, just pointing out what 77 says irks him/her is not only irking him or her.

Just like I find pretty amusing that anyone would say that nobody "in the past 50 years has been swept out" to sea in Long Island.

People who live on LI know their water. And if I remember correctly(it's been OMG 40 years since I grew up on the north shore) each area, bay, beach ect, even if it's the south shore, is different. So I would definelty defer and trust somone who lives locally to know what's possible. I think this site is so blessed to have people who live on LI who have offered such wonderful practical information about the area. also making me homesick!

Is there any info on if the bodies were facedown, N-S-E-W, weighed down, ect.... ?
I have been pouring over the posts for 4 days now and it's a lot to take in, in such a short time. So please forgive me if I am asking questions already asked.
I am trying to make an evidence board at home in my guest room. Anyone have any resources they think might be useful? I have maps and some pics so far.....
Any help would be appriciated....
Thanks yall.
