Missing Jersey City woman identified attacker in frantic 911 call before disappearance

WABC 7 interviewed the family of missing Jersey City woman Shannon Gilbert after police found four bodies dumped on Long Island's Jones Beach, one of which could be her.

The first of the decomposed bodies was discovered several feet from Ocean Parkway between Cedar Beach and West Gilgo Beach Saturday at 2:45 p.m., and three bodies were discovered Monday within a quarter of a mile of each other, as reported by the Jersey Journal.

"We were searching to see if her (Gilbert's) remains were in area," said Suffolk County Police Detective. Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky. "We found these four sets of remains. It is really undetermined if she is one of the victims or not."

According to WABC 7, police believe the bodies may have been killed in another location before being dumped out of a car onto the beach. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said at a press conference, "I don't think it's a coincidence that four bodies ended up in this area." He said the police are considering the possibility that these bodies were the victims of a serial killer.

Gilbert's mother Mari Gilbert told WABC 7 that "[Gilbert's] last phone call was 23 minutes to 911 when she was grabbed and pulled into a truck."

"She was trying to run away and leave," added Gilbert's sister Sherre. "[She was] screaming, she was running and knocking on neighbors doors, saying, 'He's trying to kill me!'"

Police say Gilbert even specifically named her attacker who was someone she knew.

Gilbert's family hopes the 911 call will help detectives solve the case and noted that they remember Gilbert to be filled with love and promise, according to WABC 7's report.

This is the first time I've noticed that the police were the one who stated that SG named her attacker in the 911 call. For some reason I was thinking that her family were the ones who released that info. Assuming that this reporter got the details right, this makes the argument even stronger that SG really did know her attacker IMO.

Hi WM and M-C and everyone. Thomas Capano was convicted of killing Anne Marie Fahey. It was in Delaware in the mid-90's. Ann Rule wrote a book about it. I think Capano had been governor? He came from a wealthy family. Anyway, my feeling is the Sk and Capano's don't have anything to do w/ one another....but who knows.

The problem for SG (and anyone who cares about her) is that we have JB, her driver & some residents of Oak Beach all describing SG as being in poor state of mind "like she was on drugs". The police didn't take her 911 call serious then and they aren't taking it serious now because all of these people are destroying her credibility. This is why we probably will never hear her 911 tapes (and why her family DID NOT hear it either). The person she names on that call more than likely is the one responsible for her being missing. But without any other evidence to support SG's frantic claim, that person will surely get away with it. Not saying that this is even the same person as our SK. Just saying that if a victim is taped STATING the name of the person trying to harm her and then she goes missing minutes later... Well in my book the person named by the victim is more than likely the person responsible 99.99% of the time.

Only here on Long Island would police officials convince themselves that the alternative .01% scenario is the most likely explanation (in this case, thinking that SG got it wrong when she named her attacker because when they interviewed him and others they all told police that she seemed "paranoid". DUH!!! What exact frame of mind were they expecting to hear a girl to be in when someone was trying to kill her.... calm & collected?????).
 
I think it is just that there is no proof that any crime was committed without finding Shannan. All of our analyzing this footstep by footstep makes me think they know who it is but because of her lack of credibility and stability, a good attorney would be able to create reasonable doubt that a crime happened.

Hi Seaslug, I read it took so long because they didn't know where she was located until GC called 911. Maybe, but I have to say I am a little suspicious of that.....mostly because there seemed to be so little interest by LE until the SK angle arose. I never read who the first responder was.

None of these reporters seem to feel the need to be precise in their reporting. I think Shannan's mother meant SUV when she said truck. Or is that a clue that Shannan was pulled into a service utility truck, like an emergency vehicle, or like the white truck we have pondered over?

I agree Redbird!

If you watch the video closely, she almost said a word starting with an "S" and then she said "Truck". I wonder why she didn't say SUV. That could be a good clue if someone could ask the mother what type of truck or does she know it was a SUV.
 
I've been back and forth time and time again. JB is responsible for SG's disappearance! No MP is! NO CPH is!
The more I read everyone's posts and the more I think about it, the more I believe that MP has EVERYTHING to do with SG's disappearance.
First of all, some of what we THINK we know about the night Shannan disappeared, I think came from Mike Pak. IMO, he told HIS VERSION of the story. But did we ever see his face in the media? Was he ever really interviewed? No. We can find atleast 2-3 different videos of JB and CPH being interviewed. Not MP. If he was innocent, why wouldn't he want to prove it and help get to the bottom of this? I bet he never even spoke with the family and showed his respect.
JB says Shannan wouldn’t leave his house. Why? Obviously she wasn’t scared of someone or something in the house. Why did she run away from the driver, who is supposed to be there for her protection? Why did she run from him AGAIN when MP got to Gus Coletti’s house? And with her running on foot and MP in his SUV, how could he NOT have caught up to her? She couldn’t have gone too far before there‘s no where else to go. And honestly, I don’t think there was 1 person in that community that would have really offered help or let her in their home, or even pretended to offer help to keep her/kill her. I think everyone was locking their doors!
Also, as I have mentioned before, MP says he found Shannan on the phone with 911 when he got into JB’s house. But when the neighbor, Gus C. says he called the police, MP says he shouldn’t have done that and that SG was going to be in big trouble. I thought he knew SG was already on the phone with them? JB knows what really happened that night. As he said, the truth will come out, or something like that. He knows what was going on between SG and MP that night and that‘s why he said that.
Hearing SG’s mom talking about Shannan needing money to buy her a Mother’s day gift and all that, at first, I didn’t really think too much of it. But putting that together with JB saying SG didn’t look like the photo he saw online, and the confusion between SG being there for 1 hour as per JB and SG being there for 3 hours as per MP. It leads me to believe there was a definite argument over money, imo. MP wanted to be paid for 3 hours. Shannan probably only got paid for 1.
Plus, playing online poker on his cell phone in his SUV seems like a pretty weak alibi, imo.
With all that said, I’m not sure if I believe SG ran into the same person that MBB, MB, MW, and ALC did. But if Shannan DID experience the same fate, why should MP be ruled out as a suspect in that case as well? He has ties to escorting, being a driver, and probably at one point, or some points been the client. I believe he lives in NY. He is Asian and might prefer women of petite stature. He drives an SUV.
I guess they DO have to find her body first to get this SOB.

This whole ramble is MOO.

We need more news updates on this case! They have already established that they aren't going to lose money this summer. The beach goers/vacationers aren't affected by this case, so ok good you wont lose money, now let's get back to the case...HELLO!??
 
I am still hoping maybe goathairjones can drive by 101 Anchor Way to let us know if there is a house there.

Well said, Internetgirl. Your post reminded me of the part of the Here Women Speak interview where Sherre says something about how she had not spoken to MP about the night Shannan went missing because she was afraid to. This is coming from the girl who bravely went door to door in Oak Beach to confront JB and CPH. That always stood out to me.

I cannot believe how quiet things have been throughout this entire case. What ever happened with them testing the Asian male's DNA against missing Stony Brook student Jimmy Tsui? Did they find anything on Cruz's laptop? What about the Nassau bodies? Do we even know if they are male or female yet? I'm trying to trust in LE and praying that they have leads and are just waiting for a little more concrete evidence before they make any arrests. But I'm also beginning to fear that more bodies are going to start turning up over the summer, probably not along Ocean Parkway but in other isolated places on LI. I just wish LE would release more information to the public. This is exactly the type of case where public tips could really help. JMO, as always.

Do you know if anyone found that comment section where locals were discussing why it took so long to respond to Shannan's 911 call? They made it sound like it wasn't because it was low priority for LE, but rather that due to protocol the Marine unit {?} had to take the call and it took them a bit longer to get there. That was either due to the distance away they came from or the actual calling them up and the time it took them to respond. There was quite a discussion about this in that comment section. And the locals also discussed the political problems of the SCPD as I remember. xox

Thanks goathairjones. It does look like it is just a vacant lot, but it will be great to see the route she took from 33 Anchor Way, how easy it would be for a truck or SUV to be hiding and waiting. Too bad we can't all go. You can look at the territory through Shannan's eyes. You can see if there are any storage sheds or anything not visible on the maps. Cool.

Not sure if it's 101 Anchor way but when I drove up to the gate 2 weeks ago to time the drive from OB to CVS I did notice that the first house on the right appeared to be a vacant club house of sorts. There were all sorts of fliers taped to the windows and there was at least one video camera mounted on it. I could be wrong, but it sure looked like an empty club house to me.

Actually, according to civic association's newsletter, they call it their "community center"; link to newsletter

Members of the OBCA came down to the Community Center on June 20th to help plant indigenous*shrubs and grasses purchased with a generous donation by Save the Beaches.
The plantings can*be seen along the west side of the Communty Center.

But I think I could be incorrect about the location of the community center because in the Coletti interview video by Newsday, Gus is clearly standing in front of a building under construction (the construction workers are in the video working on it). That would explain the fliers I saw in the vacant building's windows (building permits). Just not sure if it's a private home or a clubhouse they are building.
