A Babylon Town bay constable was shot and killed on a quiet waterfront street in Oak Beach Friday by a man he had attempted to pull over for driving erratically, police said. A state park police officer later shot the suspect to death as he was attempting to flee.

Authorities identified the constable as Richard Brooks, 44, a retired New York City police officer who lives in Amityville and works one day a week as a constable, and the suspect as James Wilson, 42, of 79 Hawser Dr., Oak Beach. The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. when Brooks, driving in a marked constable vehicle on the Robert Moses Causeway, saw Wilson driving erratically, said Suffolk Police Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick.

He said Brooks tried to pull Wilson over, but Wilson sped off to his house in nearby Oak Beach and rushed inside his home.

IMHO, we have placed a lot of focus on Shannan Gilbert. With the recent exception of Jane Doe 2000, we have not spent a lot of time researching any of the other victims. Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Amber Costello, Melissa Barthelemy, Jessica Taylor, The Toddler, The Asian Man and Jane Doe 9098 could all use our attention. I am in No Way suggesting that we stop researching Shannan Gilbert. I would just like to politely suggest that we spread our attentions more equally. JMO.

I have to agree with you Slim, As much I want to solve the SG case, I do believe there is some linkage with the 10 other bodies. If we could find anything in common between the 10 victims that would show relationships (other than beings escorts) it would be of great importance.

Things we have to find are;(examples)

1) Friends and acquaintances in common
2) Co-workers in common, drivers, other escorts, medical people.
3) Clients in common
4) Bars, diners, hairdressers, cleaners and hang-outs in common.

The SK belongs in one or more of the above categories. All those who have known the deceased have to start listing people in the four groups listed.

When the various lists are compared, chances are some thing will become clear.

Realize the SK who is extremely smart, will have been devious and tried to mask his identity. (Tells girl #1 his name is Bill, tells girl #2 his name is Fred, might have meet the girls at different locations)

Did any of the girls keep lists or ledgers or records of any sort? To make progress in this area, families of the deceased who have any records will have to contribute to the sleuthing.

Skeletal remains found in Manorville tonight. About 1 mile from where Jessica Taylor was found. Police are on the scene and trying to determine if they are human remains. Breaking story. Stay tuned.

(02/17/12) MANORVILLE - Suffolk police say skeletal remains have been found in a wooded area in Manorville.

Police say they received a call that remains had been found at around 6:30 p.m. along North Street, off of Wading River Road.

Authorities say they are working to determine if the remains are human. They say they have secured the area and are waiting until tomorrow morning to further investigate.

The remains were found a few miles from where two other sets of remains were discovered several years ago. Those sets were later linked to the Ocean Parkway murders.

"The spot where the remains were found is in the heavily wooded Pine Barrens region and only five miles down the road from where the partial remains of an unidentified woman were found in 2000, the same woman whose head was found on Ocean Parkway in 2011."

I agree with you Windsor and Dwntwnslim-we should focus on the other victims as well. Any links between them, no matter how trivial they may appear, might be a springboard for an important break. I certainly hope that the Gilgo 4 families are continuing to talk amongst each other, offering support and looking for matches between their lost loved ones. The four categories you have Windsor are good ones.

I'm wondering if the killer ever set foot in any of the motels these girls stayed in, like the Super 8 motel on 46th street in NY that Maureen Brainard-Barnes was at. We know that he didn't come to her room, I wonder if he suggested these hotels/motels to them when he called them? Would he drive around and case the places, looking for where the outdoor cameras were at and a good location to pick them up with his vehicle? It seems as though he's been ultra careful and always picks up the women down the street from where they're staying or their home. Unfortunately, it'd be such a long shot that if he made a mistake and was caught on camera that they'd still have the footage.

I do know that Shannan kept several notebooks/ledgers that her mother was shown with on the 48 Hours special. She said she was checking them all out. I wonder just how detailed these profiles were. I wonder what percentage of their dates occur in the client's homes as opposed to hotels/motels etc.? LE did check out Amber Lynn Costello's roommate Dave Schaller's cellphone which she was using the day she disappeared. Checked the text messages as well as phone numbers and quizzed him on who her regulars and/or weirdo customers were. Her sister Kimberly Overstreet was also looking at her own notebooks, maybe there's a possibility (a very creepy one) that the SK had been with her as well. I would think that at least one other victim kept records, they probably checked out Megan Waterman's cellphone that she left at her motel on Long Island.

Something that positively amazes and confounds me is what did the killer say and do to persuade both Megan and Amber to leave their cellphones behind? He must be very, very smooth and glib, able to put them at ease. I'm now wondering if perhaps he was a regular of both the women, as opposed to being a first time client like I've been thinking so far. I know it's a fairly popular belief that he could've been grooming them, I've felt that it would be much too risky. Well, we do know that he probably gets off on taking chances...maybe he was a regular and met them at those clubs that they went to when they were first getting into sex trade.

And now they've found more skeleton remains in Manorville? Wow...no word yet on whether they are human though? I hate to say it, but it wouldn't surprise me if they found more bodies along the Ocean Parkway...

One thing that I think is important to consider is desperation levels. Even smart people with hordes of street smarts will make terrible decisions if they feel backed against a wall. Perhaps the killer knew that and chose girls at that time who he knew would do ANYTHING for money. We know Amber was a heroin addict...someone who was getting dopesick or knew they were about to run out of drugs is desperate. Maybe Melissa was deeper into drugs than we know or couldn't pay her rent. We know MBB was getting evicted and had kids. Megan had a child to support and may have been struggling to pay bills. If this were the case, it would indicate the SK knew about the victims' life circumstances to some extent, but doesn't necessarily mean he was a regular of theirs nor does it mean he is slick and smooth and super intelligent. At any rate, how desperate a person is can play into how likely they are to leave a safety net behind, go to an unusual location for a job, etc.

I agree with your idea of the SK's familiarity and or knowledge of the victim. I tend to believe the SK had one or more encounters with the victims prior to their demise. This would allow him to be familiar with them and be aware of when they were most vulnerable as well they would have developed a trust with him based on satisfactory previous encounters.

IF these previous encounters did take place, the chances are better somebody has some recollection of him.

A very good point, Amber was deep into the heroin and her sister said she go with just about anyone to get money for her next fix. Yes, MBB was getting evicted...these women were desperate for the cash. The more I think about it, I really don't think he was a regular--way too much of a risk with the additional exposure of dates.

If he is a smooth talker when needed like suggested, is it possible he got the victims to talk more and revile things in their life. Hence knowing things and repeating the victims own feelings back at them to seem compassionate and close to them. Then with all that he gets close enough with this false trust and has them leave the cell phone behind. Idk if I am getting across my point I was trying to say... Where is my second cup of joe?
