I don't think this was the issue in this case. The defendant was wasted from drinking 18 beers the night before, was seen speeding across an adjacent parking lot, and careened into the nail salon after attempting to pass another car at a high rate of speed. This wasn't an elderly person hitting the accelerator instead of the brake.Hitting the accelerator is a horrible thing because your instinct is to step down harder when the car won’t stop.
I had it happen when I’d gotten a new car, and the brake wasn’t where muscle memory told me it should be.
