Phili---IIRC the "payroll clerk from RM's job" stated that the scrap was Rob's to take. This of course is from <modsnip> and IMO suspect.
From what I have been told from members of other Unions its not the "done" thing for a foreman to take the scrap---it usually goes to the apprentices who make the least amount of money. Its a courtesy extended them like treating them to morning cawfee. If the guys on the job agreed to pool all the money from scrap for Lotto tix, BBQs etc then fine. Maybe RM kept a little back for himself. Who knows?

Could this policy have changed over time? Copper wire has been very hot for a while now and there has been major thefts of it nationally. If I owned that theater, I would want a piece of the action. I know when I have a large tree taken down, sometimes I keep the wood for my wood stove. It is mine, but I do have the option of the tree cutting service removing it, selling it, and pocketing the proceeds.
JMO and some thoughts.

I totally agree and see it your way. I don't understand why he bothered to drop his stuff off and then drive off. It just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe he didn't drive off? Maybe someone knew of his plans to go to arrow and then followed him? Beats me!!

Add to that, he didn't get a call or text on his cell phone from anyone like he was going to meet someone. And shut the phone off... Really odd.

I agree, very odd! Maybe he was going to an area for something illegal or to do something illegal? Although, what about the bike???

The problem with these scenarios is why doesn't IM or LE know if he was in jail or rehab? Doesn't rehab need health insurance or a social security number (medicaid)? Maybe he paid cash? I think this theory doesn't work for me. Maybe LE is incompetent , because they can't find a guy in a rehab facility or a jail? Possible, I suppose. Yet, 3 months have passed.

But would either tell us McSpy????? Its why I asked about his Union card and proof of medical insurance card. Can you walk up to a facility and say "I need help?" Not sure what happened with my nephew--he was under 21 the first few times and over 21 the last time he went to rehab.

I feel very strongly that the household knows alot. Info just isn't trickling to the public.
I say a prayer each day for his Mom and sister---they dont need this.

Drib-- do you think his employer could have terminated the service on the phone???

I think he didn't plan to be gone long. He didn't tell IM he was running out for any reason and he left everything as if he was going to be right back.

McSpy---the family members I have range from 72 down to 40 so thats a couple of generations in union trades. Maybe its just something in my and Mr C's families that the foreman leaves the scrap for the apprentices. And its the contractors say on what happens to it first of course. Its not just the wire but some of the salvage as well----an old theatre would have beautiful fixtures and reclaimed wood is very hot in home design.

I don't disagree. In my head I think I was getting more at the risk of swiping high dollar scrap from a job site (the risk exposure if there is no "agreement") for the amount of money gained. No amount of money from swiped scrap is worth my job. I'm sure opinions on that would vary quite a bit tho.

What if he had been in trouble before?
Wonder how he met Ida? What he did before they married?

If he was coming from Brooklyn and going straight to Arrow, why did he take the LIE? It would have been much easier to take Southern State right to Wellwood Avenue. This is starting to make me think Arrow was an afterthought.

How long is Arrow at that location??? IIRC they had a new looking banner out side and the fancy brick work at the entry seemed more suited to Cancos Tile World than a scrap yard. Maybe he went the wrong way? Started in one direction and then remembered the new location??

Initially, I thought this too. But, if you look on a map it does make more sense to take the LIE from his work location back to L.I.

Ok but then why not take the seaford oyster bay expressway to southern state?

That's a really good question. The other location was Wheatley heights, right? Which is right next to Melville, right?

Not sure where it was priorly located (is that even a word??? I am losing it guys-lol).
But I remember being surprised at the fancy brickwork---it seemed very out of place to my idea of what a scrap yard looks like.

Im thinking the guy took off and is in trouble with LE.
I think this is why they have not released the car!
I believe its very possible something was found in the trunk of that car but they are saying it was empty!
All JMO

Hmmm, interesting that they laughed about him leaving. Wonder what that meant? Maybe it was considered a proposterious theory? Also, the car does seem important. Thanks

Or they are good at their job and know how to "lead" a conversation. Not totally buying that they weren't controlling the information path so we would think what they wanted us to think.... we know a LOT of people read here who knows who they are

They should say something, IMO. I did read in an earlier article that he was happy and in good mental health, so unless someone lied, I can't see why they would keep the charade going if he was addicted to drugs. I guess anything is possible, I suppose. Why wouldn't the rehab facility come forward? Is it out of state? I do think the family knows more, IMO.

I am in total agreement on that!! I believe the household knows all. A rehab may not speak out unless told by the patient? There is a good chance a rehab may be out of state and unaware of any news about RM.

True, but if they all laughed, it seems a little rehearsed to be candid, IMO. I'm thinking it mattered how and what the person asked. Maybe they asked if it was possible RM left his wife—and this is why they laughed. If the person asked if he had left because of financial troubles, then maybe the response would have been different. Wish I was a fly on the wall there!

I wonder if it was possible he was selling scrap for others? For example, he could easily sell copper scrap, because he has an electrican's license. Maybe he was selling the scrap for thieves and getting a cut of the proceeds??

All speculation and absolutely no facts. Just some ideas . .
