SAY DANNY PAID FAMILY BILLS, TOO

BY ROBERT GEARTY and BILL HUTCHINSON
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

Defense attorneys tried yesterday to show a more benevolent side of Long Island murder suspect Danny Pelosi - portraying him as a man who paid his dying wife's medical bills and made sure her kids were cared for.
The bid came a day after prosecutors painted Pelosi as a free-spending gambler who squandered a $6.7 million fortune that indirectly came from the man he allegedly killed....

NANNY SHOCKER: PELOSI 'FESSED
by Kieran Crowley

Generosa Ammon's "million-dollar nanny" took the stand yesterday and dropped a bombshell: Danny Pelosi confessed that he bludgeoned Ted Ammon to death and threatened to do the same to her, she testified.
A sobbing and timid Kaye Mayne — a British housekeeper who came to the United States shortly before the October 2001 murder to care for the couple's twins — said Pelosi had made a midnight confession to her some time in 2002 after coming home from an evening of heavy drinking.

The suspect whispered in her ear "about how he had beaten and beaten him [Ammon] and how Ted had begged for his life," she said softly and nervously at Pelosi's murder trial.....

NANNY SAYS PELOSI DESCRIBED MURDER

Kathryn Ann Mayne was dozing on the couch in the Center Moriches home where she cared for Generosa Ammon's children, when Daniel Pelosi bent over her and whispered that he had killed millionaire Theodore Ammon, she testified at Pelosi's murder trial Wednesday.

Pelosi, who had been drinking that night, told her "about how he had beaten him and beaten him and he had begged for his life ... and there was blood everywhere," Mayne said.

During questioning by Assistant District Attorney Janet Albertson, Mayne said Pelosi complained to her that Generosa, who inherited Ammons' fortune after his October 2001 murder, was not giving him the money he needed to pay gambling losses and other mounting debts. Pelosi told her, "I gave this woman money. I killed her husband. And now she won't give me a few hundred thousand dollars," Mayne recalled on the stand in Riverhead....

Nanny Says Pelosi Admitted Killing and Threatened Her
By PETER C. BELLER

RIVERHEAD, N.Y., Nov. 10 - A British nanny who cared for Theodore and Generosa Ammon's children testified on Wednesday that a drunken Daniel Pelosi sidled up to her one night and whispered in her ear that he had beaten Mr. Ammon to death. The next day, she said, he threatened to do the same to her.

The nanny, Kathryn Ann Mayne, is the second witness at Mr. Pelosi's murder trial to testify that he admitted killing Mr. Ammon, a wealthy New York financier, and she also said Mr. Pelosi claimed that the victim had offered him money to spare his life.

At the time of the October 2001 killing, Mr. Pelosi was having an affair with Ms. Ammon, who was estranged from her husband and in the middle of a bitter divorce. They married three months after Mr. Ammon, 52, was found beaten to death in his East Hampton home.

Last month, a former girlfriend of Mr. Pelosi's testified that he had admitted killing Mr. Ammon.

In her testimony in Suffolk County Court here, Ms. Mayne, who inherited $1 million from Ms. Ammon's estate, said Mr. Pelosi came home drunk one night to the house he shared with Ms. Ammon in Center Moriches. "I was sleeping on the couch," Ms. Mayne said. "Generosa didn't want to be alone in the house when he came home.

"He came and sat right next to me and whispered in my ear about how he had beaten him and beaten him," she said, referring to Mr. Ammon. The next day, she said, Mr. Pelosi told her, " 'I'm going to kill you.' "...

I was wondering the same thing. He can't keep his mouth shut! He's worse or almost as worse as SP giving all those interviews tripping his self up.

THEY'VE ALL HEARD HIM SAY IT

by SAMUEL BRUCHEY

November 11, 2004

Daniel Pelosi has allegedly told no fewer than five people - including three inmates - that he killed Theodore Ammon. Two women have testified to that at his murder trial in Riverhead, and the inmates said the same thing in sworn testimony at Pelosi's pre-trial hearings.

Kathryn Ann Mayne, the British nanny and former employee of Generosa Ammon, testified yesterday that Pelosi twice told her that he killed Ammon. But Mayne, now the legal guardian of Ammon's twins, said she didn't believe him either time and thought Pelosi was just trying to scare her....

Phone log clues debated in Pelosi case
Cell phone records pinpoint where defendant was in early morning hours

BY ROBIN TOPPING

November 16, 2004

Daniel Pelosi was in the Manorville area when he used his cell phone to call a friend at 1:28 a.m. -- the last call he made in the predawn hours of the day Theodore Ammon was murdered in East Hampton, phone records show.

The records were detailed Monday at Pelosi's murder trial in the testimony of prosecution witness John Anninos, a regional security manager for Sprint Communications. But the timing of the calls lie at the heart of the defense's case.

Pelosi's attorney Gerald Shargel of Manhattan has contended that records from cell towers that transmitted calls Pelosi made the night of Oct. 20 into early Oct. 21, 2001, indicate he was not in East Hampton when Ammon died. Shargel argues that Ammon, who was murdered in the master bedroom of his mansion on Middle Lane, was dead by 1 a.m. on Oct. 21....

DANNY'S 'PHONE-Y' EXCUSES UNDER FIRE

By KIERAN CROWLEY

November 16, 2004 -- Danny Pelosi's cellphone records on the morning of Ted Ammon's murder prove he had seven hours in which to kill the Long Island multimillionaire, the prosecutor charged yesterday.
"There is a seven-hour period where there are no phone calls," said Suffolk prosecutor Janet Albertson after court. "So we have a seven-hour block of time" that the jury "will become more interested in" as the prosecution case proceeds. ...

PHONE HANGS DANNY, SEZ DA

BY ROBERT GEARTY and BILL HUTCHINSON
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

He didn't quite dial M for murder, but prosecutors contend Danny Pelosi's cell phone records show he had time to kill.
The Long Island electrician's phone records reveal a seven-hour gap of silence in his cell phone usage on the day Wall Street mogul Ted Ammon was slain, a phone company executive testified yesterday.

Defense attorneys were quick to point out that Pelosi could have been sleeping during the gap between calls in the early-morning hours of Oct. 21, 2001....

RIVERHEAD: CALLS BEFORE AND AFTER KILLING A Sprint representative testified yesterday that Daniel Pelosi's cellphone went silent for seven hours on the morning that prosecutors say he murdered the financier R. Theodore Ammon, despite a flurry of calls before and after that show him moving around Suffolk County. Records show that Mr. Pelosi traveled to his sister's home in Center Moriches early on Oct. 21, 2001, phoning his friend Christopher Parrino just before 1:30 a.m. Seven hours later, he made calls that indicate he was at or near the homes of Mr. Parrino, who has been charged as an accomplice, and another friend. Witness: Pelosi said he killed Ammon
Offered fellow inmate money to beat up other prisoners

Leaning into a microphone clearly meant for someone much smaller, Clayton Moultrie told a jury in Riverhead Tuesday that Daniel Pelosi offered him money in jail to beat up inmates who might testify against him and confessed to "killing a man named Ted Ammon."

"I was trying to break every — bone in [his] body," Pelosi said in September, according to Moultrie. Both men were being held then in the Suffolk County jail.

A habitual criminal who was facing six robbery and drug-related charges, Moultrie, 39, said Pelosi explained that because Ammon was larger than Pelosi, "no one would believe that a person my size could do that."

"If I had known what I know now I would have just put one in his head," Pelosi said, raising a finger to his own head as if it were a gun, Moultrie testified....

PELOSI 'ADMITTED MURDER'

A jailhouse informant testified yesterday that Danny Pelosi admitted he murdered millionaire Ted Ammon by breaking "every bone in his body" — but wished he'd blown him away with a pistol instead.

Clayton Moultrie claims Pelosi made the shocking confession during their stint together in the Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead. The murder suspect then attempted to hire the hulking criminal to assault a witness in the case against him, Moultrie testified in a Riverhead courtroom.

"I was trying to break every f - - - ing bone in the a - - hole's body. If I'd've known what I know today, I would've just put one in his head," Pelosi allegedly told Moultrie....

Ex-Prisoner Says Pelosi Told Him of Beating Millionaire to Death
By PETER C. BELLER

RIVERHEAD N.Y., Nov. 16 - Daniel Pelosi told a fellow inmate that he had beaten R. Theodore Ammon to death and had then begun smoking crack to lose weight so no one would believe he could kill the taller and more athletic Mr. Ammon, the inmate, Clayton J. Moultrie, testified on Tuesday.

Mr. Moultrie, 39, whose criminal past includes convictions for arson and drug dealing, said Mr. Pelosi asked him to knock out the teeth of two people who he thought were set to testify against him.

Mr. Pelosi said he would pay $100 for each tooth and $500 for a broken jaw, Mr. Moultrie testified. Mr. Pelosi made the offer in the holding pen of the Suffolk County Jail in September, Mr. Moultrie said....

Jailhouse tapes may enter Pelosi trial

BY ROBIN TOPPING AND SAMUEL BRUCHEY

Secret recordings of conversations between Daniel Pelosi and a jailhouse informant -- once ruled out as evidence in Pelosi's murder trial -- may yet be played for the jury.

State Supreme Court Justice Robert W. Doyle ruled last month that the 40 hours of tapes, made by Pelosi's former fellow inmate Clayton Moultrie while wearing a recording device for the prosecution, could not be heard by the jury during the trial.

But Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney Janet Albertson charged that Pelosi's lawyer Gerald Shargel "opened the door" to letting the jury know about the tapes because of questions he asked Moultrie during cross-examination in Riverhead.

While Shargel denied opening such doors, he nevertheless told Doyle he wants to play a snippet of the tapes involving a conversation between Moultrie and his wife. In that segment, Moultrie allegedly talks about getting a $25,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of Pelosi....

Pelosi tipped
about snitch: DA

BY ROBERT GEARTY
and BILL HUTCHINSON
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

Secret recordings of alleged Long Island killer Danny Pelosi were halted when authorities suspected he was tipped off by crooked jail guards, authorities said this week.
Prosecutor Janet Albertson claimed several Suffolk County Jail correction officers may have taken bribes to protect the accused killer of Wall Street mogul Ted Ammon.

"We had reason to believe that there could potentially be officers that [Pelosi] spoke about, that he had on his payroll," Albertson said Wednesday.

The bombshell breach allegations came after career criminal Clayton Moultrie covertly taped 40 hours of face-to-face talks with Pelosi while locked up at the Riverhead jail....
