CLEVELAND -- All eyes are on Cleveland for the NBA Finals.
And the families of two missing girls hope more eyes will help in the search for their loved ones.

14-year-old Gina Dejesus disappeared while walking home from school three years ago. Amanda Berry vanished after leaving her job in 2003.

Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena, the photos of both girls, along with age progression pictures of how they may look currently, will be played on the Cavaliers scoreboard.

"I thanked them from the bottom of my heart," said Nancy Ruiz, mother of Gina Dejesus. "They've given me this chance, this hope."

The photos will be shown before the game and at halftime. And fliers with the girls' information will be taped to the arena's doors.

A friend of both families wrote a letter to the Cavaliers asking for permission to post Amanda's and Gina's photos. The Cavaliers and NBA officals gave their approval.

"You never know," Ruiz said. "If somebody just sees these girls or saw my baby, to call and help me bring my baby home. Both of them."

Sadly, it's been 5 years today since she went missing. Her mother has since died of heart problems. :(

She disappeared a day before her 17th birthday.

It's the same neighborhood where Gina DeJesus also vanished the same year.

The rally begins at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot across from fast-food restaurant. (more at link)

Project Jason, in affiliation with J.B. Scott Publishing, is pleased to announce that Amanda Berry and Georgina DeJesus are featured inside of the November 2004 issue of Through the Gears. You can pick up a free copy of this publication at your local truck stop.

Both girls, missing from Cleveland, are also on the November 18 Wheel Angel program campaign. Be sure to download and print several posters and place them to help the families bring them back home.

Be sure to visit their websites and sign the guestbook to show the families that we care and support them in their efforts to locate these girls.

I love the 18 Wheel Angel's concept; better than milk cartons, as they move around a lot, more people see them!

This has haunted me for a long time as they went missing from a neighborhood very close to where I lived and I was a teen at the same time they were.

I knew the area they vanished from very well. I would not consider it a safe place, but for the most part, houses are well kept and there is a lot of community pride and togetherness. My aunt did mail-carrying in the neighborhood and has a lot of strange and scary tales.

I am 99% police have checked to see if Amanda and Gina knew each other, these cases are constantly on the minds of Clevelanders and in the news.

There was an article about Amanda I saw a few months ago, before I was a member of Websleuths. It was either in the Cleveland Free Times or the Cleveland Scene, but I cannot find it in their search. I will keep looking in the meantime. The only interesting information I remember is that months after Amanda went missing, they found her dirty BK uniform rolled up behind her dresser, and they said it meant Amanda came home before she went missing. The article said the first time that fact was released was in that article.

*****************EDIT**************I found it http://www.freetimes.com/stories/15/1/whatever-happened-to-gina-mandy

since these girls disappeared in the same area, does anyone know if gina dejesus knew amanda? I wonder if maybe the police ever thought of a manager at the burger king resturant that amanda worked at? if it were a manager gone bad, maybe at one point or another, gina dejesus possible visits her at work, and the perp sees her as well. And later sees her walking down the road, and he offers her a ride, maybe she would have felt comfortable with him, since she knew he was amandas manager. this is sad that these girls have fallen out of the picture, hopefully police have checked into a possible connection to someone that amanda and gina might have known, such as a possible manager idea that I have. at the very least I feel this person lives in the general area. seems like there hasn't been any others recently that have gone missing in that manner in a close period of time, this person knew whene they would be out and about. our prayers are with amanda and gina, and the families that are still looking for answers.

mywarmbluefleece, thanks for the Free Times link. James Renner is a really good writer, IMO, and he's written a book about Amy Mihaljevic too.

I grew up down by Fairview Hospital, so that area is very familiar to me too. (Especially when it was Sears!)

I just wish they'd find these two girls, and the killer of Amy. :(

I'm really disappointed in local news coverage.

Interesting information i came across.

Big Willie, Big Trouble

One-man Crime Spree May Now Be Linked To High-profile Disappearances

Eric Wilson, known on the streets of Cleveland as "Big" or "Big Willie," is best known for starting the gunfight that killed 12-year-old Asteve'e "Cookie" Thomas in September 2007. But by the time Cookie was murdered, Wilson already had a long history of kidnapping young women from the West Side and transporting them to the East Side, where they were raped and held captive. Victims came forward when they saw his picture on the news after Cookie's murder, and last fall he was convicted of four counts of rape and two counts of kidnapping. He's currently behind bars awaiting yet another rape trial.
As the search for mis-sing 15-year-old Ashley Summers continues, police and FBI have begun to wonder if Wilson was somehow involved in her disappearance. She left an apartment on Holmden Avenue on July 6, 2007, and has not been seen by her family since. At that time, Wilson often crashed at a house on Holmden, just a few doors down from where Ashley was staying. Ashley's disappearance was first treated as a runaway but is now assumed to have been an abduction, possibly connected to the more well-known West Side kidnappings of Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, according to investigators.

So sad for these young girls. Makes me paranoid to let my children out of my sight. I will continue to pray for a miracle, not only for Amanda and Gina, but for all of the missing and their families. I also pray for their abductor, and ask him/her/them to come forward and confess the sins so that everyone can find peace.

I am a member of Ashley's family. The local FBI is looking at possible similarities in these cases. Although Ashley disappeared from Holmden Ave. She actually lived and hung out just blocks (W. 96th/W. 98th) from where Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus disappeared from.

Three missing cases connected?

Over a span of four years, three girls from the same Cleveland neighborhood have gone missing. They all lived on the west side of the city. And they all vanished blocks from one another.
Are the three cases connected? The FBI suspects they may be related. “We really believe someone out there knows something,” says Special Agent Scott Wilson. “We’re looking for that one tip that will lead us to find them.” Here’s the FBI’s account of each incident:
Amanda Berry disappeared on the evening of April 21, 2003. After her shift at a Burger King ended, the 16-year-old headed home. It should have taken just a few minutes to reach her house. But she was never seen or heard from again.

I don't think it has been mentioned yet, but Amanda's mom received two phone calls, one right after the other, a week after Amanda disappeared. The calls were from a man who stated Amanda was with him and she was okay and that her mom would see her in a few days. The calls were made from Amanda's cell phone.

Thank you so much for your post, and WELCOME to WS!!

Hopefully LE will be able to figure out what's going on in Ohio - IMO there's no way these cases aren't connected.

Prayers for you, and all families involved.

Is this the Eric Wilson mentioned in the article? Or have I got the wrong guy?
