<<Several months prior to his disappearance, Andy requested money from his retirement fund. At the end of November 2006, a short time before he vanished, Andy received a check for close to $39,000, according to Aimee.

She said the check was originally mailed to an address Andy was evicted from a month prior, so his family doesn’t know how he ended up getting the check. He cashed it out and bought a car for about $14,000, Aimee said.

Aimee claims that in July 2007, a family member of one of Andy’s former roommates transferred the car title into their name without the knowledge of Andy’s family, who originally didn’t know the car existed. Aimee and Rafferty both believe the car and the money Andy received may be related to his disappearance. Additionally, they weren’t able to find a trace of the rest of the money Andy took out from his retirement fund.

“You don’t disappear and leave the car you just bought,” Aimee said. “There’s no trace of the money and no trace of Andy.” >>

Anyone with information is asked to call the Columbus Division of Police’s Missing Persons Unit at (614) 645-2358.

It sure sounds like the former roommates would know something about this. But I'm sure they denied it and without a body things didn't go further. The vast majority of people's roomates aren't going to murder them for money or a car, but these roommates or one of them at least ( the one whose family member got the car title transferred) probably did this and they probably all know about it. They may already have had criminal records or were involved in crime, I'd imagine. It doesn't sound like the move was planned.. or at least not so soon..

Andy’s mother, Judy Rafferty, and sister, Aimee Chapman, joined a Zoom call with NBC4 sitting in front of his missing poster, which was also printed on Aimee’s shirt, for a media interview hoping to keep his face and name alive – something they have done countless times over the past 17 years.

“This is the Andy Chapman March for the Missing, but we want to focus on ‘march for the missing’ because there’s going to be other families there,” Aimee said. “Really this is just a time to get out as many names and faces of missing loved ones from Ohio.”

The march will take place on June 8 at noon at Hillcrest Baptist Church, located at 2480 W. Broad St. — just minutes from the home where Andy was last seen. Along with the close proximity to his home, the mother-daughter pair wanted to pick somewhere with a high amount of traffic and visibility.
