The justice system failed Demetrius Richardson, according to three jurors who voted last week to convict the 26-year-old Elyria man of having sex with a 12-year-old girl.

“I think the law was upheld,” juror Glenda Madden of North Ridgeville said. “Was justice served? No, I don’t think so”...

But jurors reached by The Chronicle-Telegram this week said they are unhappy with the outcome of the case in part because of what they learned about the girl’s history of having sex with older men after the trial ended...

Jurors also said they were horrified to learn that the minimum sentence Richardson can receive for the rape charge of which he was found guilty is 10 years to life in prison... Sapola said he and other jurors thought Richardson would receive probation in the case, not a potential life prison sentence.

Demetrius Richardson’s lawyer on Friday formally asked a county judge to grant her client a new trial for having sex with a 12-year-old girl last year...

Juror Nikki Nemcek has said publicly that she violated a court order that is supposed to prevent jurors from doing their own research into the law and facts of the cases they are hearing.

Nemcek wrote in a blog post and in an affidavit she signed Thursday for Downs that she looked up rape and age of consent laws in Ohio online while the jury was taking an overnight break in their deliberations.

From August:

http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/...-to-crimes-during-disappearance-with-toddler/

A 12-year-old girl has admitted to committing several crimes when she vanished with a 2-year-old she was baby-sitting earlier this summer... The girl made the admissions to inducing panic, unlawful restraint and violating the terms of her probation in an earlier case...

Besides Richardson, who has pleaded not guilty to a rape charge, three others are behind bars because of their encounters with the girl. John Williams, a convicted sex offender, is serving a prison sentence of 20 years to life as a result of his contact with her, while an 18-year-old who had sexual contact with the girl while he was 16 is being held by the Ohio Department of Youth Services. A third man, convicted sex offender Christopher Sims, is awaiting trial on a rape charge because of his alleged sexual relationship with the girl.

Under Ohio law, any sort of sexual contact with someone under the age of 13 is considered rape, even if it’s consensual and the defendant wasn’t aware of the victim’s age.

2 of these men were already convicted sex offenders...:waitasec:

Yeah, no good guys in this story, that's for sure. I hope this child is getting some serious long-term therapy.

These jurors need to remember that she was 12. Rape is the definition under the law and these men committed it by taking advantage of this girl. Here history is irrelevant to the trials. It saddens me to see a girl of her age so promiscuous, how did this happen?
