This is my hometown. I can't even read about this story it's so horrific. I do think that there might be more to this than appears. It sounds like multiple people had access to the baby that night. I used to be aquainted with the crime reporter for our paper. Every once in awhile he would tell me a little tidbit about a big local case that wasn't in the news. I'll see if I can get in touch with him again and see what he thinks.

Yeah, it would be nice to hear from them what new developments there may be.

Defense: Cousin killed Ohio baby in microwave

The cousin of a month-old girl who was burned to death in a microwave told friends that he was responsible for putting her in the oven, a defense attorney said Monday during opening statements in the retrial of the child's mother.

The young relative also told friends that he hadn't been lying about the death when prosecutors later announced a microwave was used in the 2005 death, defense attorney Jon Paul Rion said.

"I know who killed that baby," the cousin had said days after the death, Rion told jurors.

A 5 year old kid says he saw an older child carry the baby to another home's kitchen. The older relative allegedly has a history of putting dolls and cats in microwaves.

An Ohio mother convicted of killing her infant daughter in a microwave oven has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance for parole.

China Arnold, 28, chose not to be in the courtroom to hear Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Mary Wiseman deliver the sentence.

A jury spared Arnold from the death penalty last week after it couldn't reach a consensus. That leaves sentencing options of life in prison without parole, or with parole after at least 25 or 30 years.

Conviction overturned in microwaved baby case

DAYTON — Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said Friday afternoon he will ask an appeals court to reconsider its reversal of the murder conviction of China Arnold for the death of her infant daughter in a microwave oven.

“We are astonished that the Court of Appeals reversed the defendant’s conviction,” Heck said is a prepared statement issued shortly before 4 p.m. “The (prosecution) will file a motion asking the Court of Appeals to reconsider its decision ...”
.............................
The ruling Friday morning by the Second District Court of Appeals reversed Arnold’s conviction for the death of her infant daughter, Paris Talley. Arnold was serving a prison sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

The conviction was reversed based on prosecutorial misconduct and the recantation of the state’s star witness, Linda Williams, according to Jon Paul Rion, Arnold’s defense attorney. After Arnold was convicted, Williams came forward and said that she lied to the jury about Arnold confessing that she put her daughter in a microwave oven and turned it on.

And yeah - sounds like a 3rd trial for her

The Second District Ohio Court of Appeals made the ruling in the case of China Arnold, sentenced in 2008 to life in prison without parole in the death of her month-old daughter. Prosecutors could seek to retry Arnold, dismiss the case against her, ask the appeals court to reconsider its ruling, or appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court.

The evil in some people scares the bleep out of me.

I can't even imagine it.

First witnesses testify that Arnold’s baby spent 2 minutes in microwave

Snyder said she was shocked when, as doctors and nurses were still trying to revive Paris, Arnold started “yelling out that her baby was not burned, that her skin was peeling off.”

Snyder said that she did not hear anyone ask Arnold about burns. She also said that Arnold did not appear to be intoxicated at the time.

Hmmmm was she feeling guilty about something??

Dad takes witness stand in microwaved baby case

DAYTON — Terrell Talley asked not to see the autopsy photographs of his daughter. The assistant Montgomery County prosecutor told him he had to show them to him.

Talley, the father of Paris Talley, testified Thursday in the trial of his former girlfriend, China Arnold, who is accused of killing the 28-day-old baby in a microwave on Aug. 30, 2005. If convicted of aggravated murder, Arnold could face the death penalty.

(Is there any way a Mod can put Arnold's name in the title? I had to search to find it - glad there is a graphic warning, but I'm sure many are looking).
