5th body possibly connected to Shawn Grate being investigated

"MARION, OH (WOIO) -
Another body possibly connected to Ashland murder suspect Shawn Grate is being investigated in the Mansfield area Monday morning.

Grate, charged with the murders of two women in Ashland, entered a not guilty plea Monday morning in court...

Grate was arraigned on Friday on two counts of murder and one count of kidnapping. His bond was set at $1M. In Monday's hearing, Grate waived his right to a speedy trial and preliminary hearing. His case will be bound over to a grand jury. He'll be back in court Sept. 29 at 8 a.m.

A fifth body is being investigated in the Mansfield area Monday morning. The body was recovered previously by authorities. BCI is out in the area looking for the homicide location site. Sources say the woman is Rebekah Leicy, who was killed in March of 2015.

The Marion County Sheriff believes Grate will be connected to more homicides."

The Richland County trial for alleged serial killer Shawn Grate has been scheduled for March 4, just under three months after it was initially set to begin on Dec. 10.

The case involves the alleged murders of two women in Richland County.

In Richland County, Grate has been indicted on 14 felony offenses, relating to the deaths of Rebekah Leicy and Candace Cunningham. In September, he pleaded not guilty to these charges.

CRESTLINE - Richland County Prosecutor Gary Bishop has revealed never-before-released details about the murder of serial killer Shawn Grate's second victim.

Rebekah Leicy's body was found in a wooded area in Ashland County in 2015. The crime happened between Jan. 1, 2015, and Feb. 6, 2015.

Bishop said Grate strangled Leicy, 31, after he believed she stole money from him.

Bob Leicy, Rebekah's father, doesn't buy it.

"Shawn ain't guilty," he told the News Journal.

Bob Leicy remains skeptical despite Grate, 42, pleading guilty March 1 to aggravated murder and gross abuse of a corpse in the death of Leicy, and murder and gross abuse of a corpse in the death of Candice Cunningham.

Even Grate's defense attorney, Terry Hitchman, said after he is convinced his client is guilty.

Life sentence
Common Pleas Judge Brent Robinson sentenced Grate to life in prison without parole for the aggravated murder of Leicy and 17 years to life for the other three charges and made the sentences run consecutively.

Bob and close friend Cindy Tilton left the courtroom in protest after their victim impact statement was not read.
