yes woof... covet... I think this has something to do with whatever happened

His parents's house wasn't far from where she lived, he drove by frequently, coveting is the first step in acquiring.

ALL SPECULATION OF COURSE.

P.S. the "kept her in the basement" parallels with that movie, too.

It's been awhile since I've been on.. the Sandra Cantu case just about drove me batty.

But I did read about this case in Ohio on yahoo news, and knew where to come for more information. I am personally being reminded of the Yosemite killer case, with the two women and two girls. I think his name was Stayner... cannot remember. It always strikes me unusual when 4 people can be overtaken by one. But obviously fear can paralyze, and the element of surprise is very powerful.

I have to agree with NurseB- the "unusual" amount of blood found in the house doesn't bode well for the others. I also think the friend coming over was a case of the wrong place at the wrong time. I think this guy is a pervert who watched Sarah and became obsessed with her. I also wonder if he has a drug problem, as that would just enhance any lunacy. I think he killed the mom/friend, then waited for the kids to come home, and ended up killing the brother at some point. Interesting that LE said they had hoped to find one other in the house. That tells me that they prolly knew (by blood type or quick DNA analysis) which person or persons the blood came from, and presumed them dead.

Also looks like he then dumped the bodies using the abandoned truck, and hid the friend's car in the garage. We pretty much can surmise that the blood didn't come from Sarah, as she is listed in "good condition".

I read the article about the prior arson charge. He sounds very unstable. Also reminded me of Melissa Huckaby (sandra cantu's killer) who had a penchant for lighting little fires herself.

You never know who is watching your kids.. it is so scary. You think you know your neighbors, but you really don't.

I feel so terrible for Sarah- she will need all the love and support she can get at this time. I hope I am wrong, and the rest of the family is found soon.

He probably did think he could do it... because it's been done. There has been several cases of young girls kept for weeks or months in "dungeons."

Then you have Jaycee Dugard...Elizabeth Smart... Shasta Groene...

It generally takes law enforcement "missing" something or letting the suspect go when they have them right there after the abduction... but they do get away with it. For longer than a week... and he may not have intended to keep her for much longer... who knows?

Young boys as well.

Barber said a combination of intelligence information received and investigative work led authorities to the home. Authorities were hoping they would find all four people, but knew they might only find Sarah Maynard, he said.

Hoping to find all 4 but KNEW they might only find Sarah?? :waitasec:

I think if we read between the lines on this, and considering the presser in which the sheriff was asked specifically what led them to Hoffman's house and another question about cell phone pings (sheriff declined to answer these two questions)............I think Sarah had her cell phone in her pocket and somehow managed to send some sort of alert to a friend who called LE.

This is how LE KNEW for sure she was there. They had no info on the other three and went in there expecting to find Sarah, and hoping the others would be there too. In the presser the sheriff said the SWAT team was used to make it all happen suddenly and quickly, as it was less of a chance that the perp would harm Sarah. They caught him off guard.

someone had to have seen him creeping around the house or around Sarah.

let us look back to the last thread when one local poster said that the house had been ransacked before but not reported. was this him?

they have been able, infofar as we know, to question Sarah since at or around 8 am this morning... that is nine hours ago........... so:

Question: are there current searches going on????

They are possibly OSU hoodies.
just for clarity... the news source said he was led out of the house in a grey hoodie... I just found it strange he was obviously in red ((both OSU colors though!))

I hate when I read things like this -- this after the fact.

ETA
Removed her name ... because I cannot remember the rules. Away too long.

I don't know what's more disturbing - a neighbor that's a weirdo & ya keep your kids away from him...or the "nice guy who's always there to help" that no one would ever suspect.

This is the part that makes me question Sarah witnessing the murders and dumping of the bodies. If that was the case then they would be "aware" of deceased people. He didn't say that they hadn't found the bodies... he said they weren't aware of them.

“As of right now we have no one we are aware of is deceased,” Barber said.

This is interesting. In one form or another?? Gun, knife, threatening family, bound and gagged? In one location or another?? Her house, the truck, his house? Wow... this could be complicated.

"We believe Sarah was under the control of Mr. Hoffman since last Wednesday in one form or another and at one location or another.”

perhaps she has not been able to communicate much yet? ((or at the time of the presser))

another thought is perhaps the others were not killed in front of her ((((sooooorrrry to be so graphic!!!!!!!!!!!)))))

perhaps she was taken to the house and tied up first?

just a thought>>>>>>

and I am HATING this case btw.. fwiw

It occurs to me that the dog might be the key to how this went down. After all, if someone uses the pet as leverage -- i.e., "I will hurt the dog unless you do as I say" -- most kids (and adults) would cooperate. Just thinking out loud as to how four people might have been subdued by (allegedly) one person that we know of...

Using a gun and making them tie each other up would be once scenario.

Perhaps he took the dog to help keep Sarah in line.

taking the dog has lots of "childlike" connotations to me... including the perp having an obsession/fascination with Sarah.

was the dog Sarah's?
