Hi fellow WS'rs. I merged the threads and put them where they belong here in the newly created missing but not forgotten discussion forum. There may have been some confusion, but we no longer post missing persons cases in the Cold Case forum.

Our reasoning for setting up subforums by decade the person went missing is so these cases would not be buried by the newest cases and would have there own area to be worked, sleuthed, for newest case, search info etc.

If there are any questions please let me know either via pm, or the threadiquette area for questions.

Thanks!

Cubby

Thanks for the explanation, Cubby. Guess we were hoping to actually raise participation by moving the thread to Missing/Located where there seems to be more interest. But I understand.

If anyone has any suggestions as to ways to generate sleuthers in a case, I'd love to hear them.

JTSYS

OK, apparently Craig county does not have the full documents available like some of the other counties. I wonder who the estate of Danny and Kathy went to? Once again similar to the Jamison situation... Who gets the estate if the child is missing.

I did a little research here, mtrooper.
It appears the entire 'estate' vanished along with the arrowheads, the burnt trailer, and any savings or accounts in the Freemans' names. There is no trail whatsoever that I can find.
I'll keep looking.

JTSYS

Oriah and JTSYS,

I have a suggestion to generate some interest from other WS'ers.. Add a link to this thread in your signature line... That way when you post in other threads, people will see the links and hopefully at least check out the thread..

Good idea JLMcKenna83. Will try that.

Bumping for Ashley and Lauria....

We now have the entire region mapped out and some specific locations to check. It'll be a painstaking process, but who knows until you try, right?
Anything of note that comes to our attention, we'll post for the sleuthers here if at all possible.
Those of you who have been persistant and helpful in taking a long hard look at this case- thank you. If you dig up anything else, please post!

To the ground we go!

JTSYS

Good luck and Be Safe!

Thanks and they will be. Please keep sleuthing for any further info re: possible grave sites. Given the terrain and other circumstances, I have a feeling they'll hit upon someone...even if it isn't who they're looking for. So any related 'cases' or disappearences in the area we're open to hearing about...

JTSYS

Bumping for Lauria and Ashley...not sure where we have moved to now? I can't seem to find the right thread!
Thanks....

Oriah and JTSYS,

I have a suggestion to generate some interest from other WS'ers.. Add a link to this thread in your signature line... That way when you post in other threads, people will see the links and hopefully at least check out the thread..

Just wanted to let you know, that is how I found this thread. Still reading.

I'm working on a "summary" of articles, links and information.

I'll post it here and then put a link to it in my siggy too.

It will be a few days before I am ready to post it because I only have 24 hours to edit a post here, so I'd like to have as much info in it as possible before posting.

You are here
Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community > Missing!! > Missing but not forgotten Discussion > 1990's Missing OK OK-Lauria Bible, 16, and Ashley Freeman, 16, Welch, 1999 MERGED

Thanks- that's what I thought but then logged on and this thread was marked 'moved', so I was unsure. We have a little bit of info to post as well and wanted to put it in the right place.
Mods, can someone tell me if I'm ok posting search info here?
The thread has changed/merged/moved quite a few times- don't want to make it even more confusing for those reading up on it.
TIA....

MISSING
Ashley Renae Freeman – Missing since December 30, 1999, from her residence in Welch, OK. Trailer did not have running water. DOB 12/29/1983. There were rumors she was sexually abused but authorities were unable to confirm the theories. She was employed part-time at Roscoe’s, a convenience store in Welch and was saving money to buy car. There was a discrepancy about how much money she had saved. Lorene Bible believed she had about $1,200 in her savings account; Jeremy Hurst says Ashley did not have a savings account but kept the money in a Tupperware container in the freezer. He said she claimed to have between $3,000 and $4,000. Authorities did not find any cash. Also missing was arrowhead collection. It was speculated that Ashley and Lauria were involved in the murders of Kathy and Danny Freeman, although there was nothing in their backgrounds to suggest they were capable of such a crime.

Lauria Jaylene Bible – Missing since December 30, 1999, from the Welch, OK, residence of her best friend, Ashley Freeman. DOB 04/18/1983. Native American, brown hair, hazel eyes, mole under nose, scar on top of head. Ears are pierced. She is right handed. Her nickname is Pooh. Her car was parked near the trailer and the keys were in the ignition. Her purse was in the trailer. http://www.charleyproject.org/images/e/endres_jones.jpg

FREEMAN FAMILY

Danny Freeman – Ashley’s dad. Suffered multiple (shotgun) gunshot wounds, including gunshot to the head. He was initially the suspect in Kathy’s death and the girls’ disappearance until the next day when they found his body. He had been buried under debris in the trailer and authorities did not find him when they found Kathy. His body was found by Lorene and Jay Bible when they returned to the trailer trying to find more information on Lauria’s disappearance. Background: In late August 1998, Danny was charged with abusing Shane, Ashley’s older brother. The family was required to attend counseling. Danny was known to have a violent temper, and beat his father-in-law in 1985, when the father-in-law trimmed the bushes without asking Danny. There was speculation that Danny was involved in drug trafficking but authorities did not uncover evidence to substantiate. He allegedly grew marijuana near the trailer for his own use. Danny’s trial for the child abuse charges began in March 1999. Danny was acquitted of all charges. He was initially the suspect in Kathy’s death and the girls’ disappearance until the next day when they found his body. He had been buried under debris in the trailer and authorities did not find him when they found Kathy.

Kathy Freeman – Ashley’s mom. Died of (shotgun) gunshot wound to the head at approximately 5 a.m. according to the coroner. Fire reported at approximately 6 a.m. by passing motorist.

Shane Freeman – Ashley’s older brother. Had behavioral problems. In early January 1999, Shane broke into the home of Ashley’s best friend, Lauria Bible. He allegedly stole some of Lauria’s belongings, money, and firearms. He was shot and killed by OK law enforcement officer David Hayes after Shane allegedly pulled a gun on him. Shane was in possession of stolen vehicle at the time.

Celeste Chandler – Ashley Freeman’s grandmother.

Dwayne Vancil – Danny Freeman’s younger brother. Source: http://joplinglobe.joplinglobe.com/story.php?story_id=154267&c=87 as posted in http://findcarrie.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=missingchildren&action=display&num=1094842846

BIBLE FAMILY

Stanley Jay Bible – Lauria’s dad. He found Danny Freeman’s body on December 31, when he and his wife returned to the trailer trying to find more information on their daughter’s disappearance.

Lorene Bible – Lauria’s mom. She said that Kathy Freeman took the girls to the Pizza Hut in Vinita, OK that night; however, authorities believe they went to Big Bill’s Barbecue at 350 block of North Wilson Street in Vinita, OK.

Bradley Bible – Lauria’s brother.

Lindey Leforce, Reverend – Lorene Bible’s brother; Jay Bible’s brother-in-law.

Lonnie Leforce – Lorene Bible’s brother; Jay Bible’s brother-in-law. Source: http://www.joplinglobe.com/story.php?story_id=194770&c=87 as posted in http://findcarrie.conforums.com/ind...ildren&num=1094842846&action=display&start=45

FRIENDS

Jeremy Hurst – Ashley’s boyfriend. He met the girls and Kathy Freeman and the girls at Walmart after their dinner. He gave Ashley her birthday present (heart-shaped pendant embedded with her birthstone on a silver chain). He returned to the trailer with them and stayed until about 9:30 p.m. Danny Freeman’s relatives who were there say he left at 10:30 p.m.

Susan and Roy Woolman – Freeman Family friends who received an anonymous tip in the summer of 2004 that the girls were in a rock quarry near lake Oologah. "My husband got a diver, who went down -- he didn't find anything," Mrs. Woolman said. "We called the Rogers County Sheriff's Department, the blocked off the area and sent two and three divers down the next day, but nothing was discovered." OTHERS

DeAnna Dorsey – Nurse who assisted the Freemans the night of Shane’s death. Her daughter was a friend of Ashley’s in 1999. She (along with several of the girls’ relatives) appeared in a TV pilot about the case (What Really Happened). It was never purchased and never aired. DeAnna was shot and killed by Ricky Martin, a paranoid schizophrenic who was angry at the hospital’s decision to downsize. Martin was killed by police shortly after DeAnna’s murder. The rumor that her death was connected to the Freeman murders was never proven.

Diane France – President of NecroSearch International, Fort Collins, CO. The company specializes in searches for human remains. They will join the Craig County and Cherokee County Sheriffs Departments and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation in the search for Lauria and Ashley. The search is expected to center on the Galena, Kansas area. Jeremy Bryan Jones – Possible suspect in the disappearance of Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman. He has been charged with the murder of a teenage girl and a woman and is a suspect in the murders and disappearances of females in 6 states. He lived in Ottawa County when Lauria and Ashley disappeared. He’d been in jail and was released at 10:30 p.m. the night the girls disappeared. The murders of Danny and Kathy are similar to crimes Jones has been charged with. Investigators questioned him about the Freeman/Bible case. He confessed to the murders of Danny and Kathy and said to look for the girls’ bodies in a mine shaft near Galena, KS. He later did a media interview and denied having confessed. During questioning, according to the Daily Oklahoman, Jones' statements lead authorities to believe he went to the trailer to settle a drug dispute. http://www.kotv.com/main/home/stories.asp?whichpage=1&id=75611 as posted in http://findcarrie.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=missingchildren&action=display&num=1094842846 Jones said he was an associate of Paul Frederick Glover, Jr., 36. Glover is a convicted methamphetamine maker whose former home and property northwest of Twin Bridges State Park were searched in July 2001 in connection with the murder case. Ron Magnum – Psychic from Tulsa, OK, who saw news story about the case and “saw” the number 170 associated with it. He feels that Lauria’s body is at the petroleum pipeline marker 170, near County Road 4380. information on the case. See Post 28 at http://findcarrie.conforums.com/ind...ildren&num=1094842846&action=display&start=15 for complete details. (Original source of story: http://www.joplinglobe.com/story.php?story_id=161061)

Tommy Lynn Sells – Convicted murder who wrote a letter to the Joplin Globe in May 2002 claiming he was connected to the Freeman/Bible case. Authorities believe he may be connected to the murders of 16 young girls. He was considered a possible suspect; however, a search of the area where he said he dumped the girls yielded no clues and he was eliminated as a suspect. He confessed to murdering Stefanie Stroh and was convicted in the murders of two Texas girls.

LEGAL and LAW ENFORCEMENT and OFFICIAL
Bob Ernst, Captain – Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. Stated that Jones was arrested at 4 a.m. and Jones remained in jail for about six hours. He was released at 10:23 a.m. Source: http://www.al.com/news/mobileregister/index.ssf?/base/news/1105697862144180.xml as posted in http://findcarrie.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=missingchildren&action=display&num=1094842846

David Hayes – Oklahoma law enforcement officer who shot and killed Shane Freeman. Hayes was on duty at the time of the incident. Shane was on a country road in possession of a stolen vehicle at the time Hayes encountered him. The car had apparently broken down. Shane allegedly reached behind his back and pulled a gun, prompting Hayes to fire at him. The incident was investigated and Hayes' actions were found to be justified. Hayes and his brother, who is also a law enforcement officer, said they both took polygraph exams after the girls' 1999 disappearances. Neither of them are considered suspects in the investigations. Hayes and his brother have not participated in the active cases. Several of Danny's relatives believe that local law enforcement was behind the murders and the girls' disappearances, but no evidence has been located to support the theory. Freeman family members also believe that Shane was attempting to flee the scene at the time of his death and claim that his autopsy report contradicts the official verdict.

David O’Meilia – U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

Dennis King – Ottawa County Sheriff. http://findcarrie.conforums.com/ind...ildren&num=1094842846&action=display&start=30

The families of Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible are asking Gov. Frank Keating to speed the search and reassure frustrated and frightened community members that an end to the mystery will come. Federal and state authorities have followed up on several leads in the disappearances. Earlier this month, divers searched abandoned mine shafts near Picher. Kyle Smith – Kansas Bureau of Investigation spokesman/director of public and governmental affairs. Source: http://www.joplinglobe.com/story.php?story_id=194770&c=87 as posted in http://findcarrie.conforums.com/ind...ildren&num=1094842846&action=display&start=45

I posted what I'd finished and will continue tomorrow. I realized I won't be able to be online much this week.

Thank you Noway. I too will be on and off the computer this week, but will follow-up this morning with an updated post on how the ground search is going as soon as possible.

Thanks again.

Just to bring folks up to date on our end. There is a current active ground search going on for Ashley and Lauria in OK and KS right now. We train and work SAR and other working dogs for work purposes, but also voluntarily work our dogs on certain cases that may seem abandoned by media or cold by LE, because we are fortunate to have the time, ability, and certain resources to do so. Please note that we are NOT ACTIVE DUTY LE. We do NOT interfere with LE, but we do work with and contact them immediately with any pertinent information encountered.

This current search will take place over select weeks throughout the summer; at this time we are not disclosing exact locations due to the nature of the case.
Right now, the search is temporarily (12-24 hrs) delayed due to weather in the area.
As soon as communication is re-established with those working the search, I will post with any thoughts, theories, ideas they communicate.

Thanks, and we need more sleuthers!

JTSYS

There is way more to this than we will ever know. Somebody in so called "law enforcement" in that area had a personal grudge against somebody in that family. Personal grudges are the most frightening type of scenario as when emotion gets involved, anything can happen.

Bolded by me, I tend to agree with this.....but either way, Ashley and Lauria need to be found.

Update on the ground search: several items of interest have been found but are likely unrelated to the case due to the location of items found. They are back up and running after severe weather watches in the area, and will hopefully work through the weekend.
