IMO, Gates isn't doing himself or the case any favors by being so short and un-forthcoming with the media. In situations like this, the media can be your best friends.

The family laison was very short in giving that answer then saying THAT is the only question I'm answering.

I haven't seen LE this stressed out in a long time. I feel for them.

Mobile command post have large teams to process evidence.

LE fully utilizing all resources available to them

Public need to say alert to anything unusual
Huge, extensive search - need to keep those involved in search safe and unable to do that with civilian volunteers, will slow down process.
