Investigation into LaVoy Finicum death concludes, results to be released Tuesday

Officials will announce Tuesday whether state troopers were justified in fatally shooting Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, a leader of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation.

A news conference is scheduled Tuesday in Bend to release the results of the investigation.

The announcement is expected to provide more details about what happened in the operation conducted jointly by the FBI and the Oregon State Police.

Prosecutors to seek protective order for evidence in Malheur refuge conspiracy case

Federal prosecutors estimate that evidence accumulated in the conspiracy case stemming from the armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge will exceed one terabyte of digital data and want the court to order defense attorneys not to share the material or make it public.

Defense lawyers are expected to challenge the request at a hearing Wednesday.

“Sheriff Palmer is now the subject of an investigation by the state department that licenses law enforcement officers.

The email from Brownscombe is one of about 1,000 pages of emails and texts released to Patch and other news organizations in response to public records requests.

GOVERNOR BROWN: LET'S NOT REPEAT MISTAKES

The documents paint a vivid picture of what was going on behind the scenes while the occupation was underway.

Governor Kate Brown, who was forced to publicly remain on the sidelines for much of the 41-day standoff at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, tells Patch that she is now focused not only on helping Harney County heal but also on making sure problems that arose are not repeated.

“I have directed staff to work with Oregon’s Congressional delegation and local officials to assist with moving forward productively to address remaining issues,” she told Patch.

Brown’s spokeswoman, Kristen Grainger, elaborated, pointing out that the Governor believed the interests of Harney County residents were underserved by federal agencies responsible for addressing the situation.

The frustration felt by the governor and her staff is detailed in about 1,000 pages of documents, mostly emails and texts, that were released to Patch and other news organizations in response to public records requests.

Some of that frustration is evident from emails just two days into the occupation.”

Good article.

Total of 8 shots fired. 6 by Oregon State Police, 2 by FBI.

They just showed Shawna Cox video while they were sitting at the first traffic stop. All with audio. And then the car takes off. Shawna tells LaVoy to "gun it".

FBI was not forthcoming in the investigation of the shooting of LaVoy Finicum and is being investigated by US Inspector General.

The question regarding the FBI has to do with what gunshots they fired at the scene. Where and when.

In the press package there will be a list of 70 or 80 specific threats made against law enforcement which is why they won't release the identities of the law enforcement officers involved.

http://www.oregonlive.com/oregon-standoff/2016/03/feds_describe_pete_santilli_as.html

In their court filing, Nevada prosecutors argue that the facts in the Nevada indictment "independently justify'' Santilli's detention as a danger to the community and risk of flight. They describe him as part of the "organizing nucleus'' of the conspiracy and as Cliven Bundy's "shill'' and "propagandist'' who "beat the drums'' over the Internet to incite and motivate followers to Nevada.
"Santilli was a key player in the build-up, organization and execution of an unprecedented, massive armed assault against federal law enforcement officers near Bunkerville, Nevada on April 12, 2014,'' Nevada's Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Myhre wrote.
The memo alleges Santilli recruited gunmen to the Bundy Ranch, threatened violence to law enforcement, helped lead an assault on U.S. Bureau of Land Management officers trying to roundup cattle on federal land, conducted reconnaissance of hotels where BLM officers were staying, delivered an ultimatum to the BLM's agent in charge to leave the impound site and incited followers and gunmen to participate in an assault on federal officers on April 12, 2014.
