Re: Eileen Francis Hynson

We received a response from law enforcement concerning this match:

RULED OUT: Oregon State Police From LE: "This is an unlikely match, as both the MP and UP have DNA uploaded into the national DNA database. However, we cannot exclude the MP officially because only the biological brother has been tested; we've been told by the University of North Texas not to add exclusions if only one relative is in the database. So, it's possible but unlikely."

The identity of a woman who was found dead in Linn County nearly 46 years ago remains a mystery. Tribal police in Warm Springs are hoping someone can help figure out who she is.
Warm Springs Tribal Police Department said Thursday it is trying to assist the Oregon State Forensic Anthropologist in identifying the woman. Genetic testing found she had both Native American and Northern European ancestry.
Her skeletal remains were found by a moss hunter on July 24, 1976. But according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), she could have died anytime between 1966 and 1976.

The remains were found about five miles northwest of Cascadia, according to a map on NamUs.

The NamUs database says she was somewhere between 18 and 40 years old with an estimated height of 5 feet tall. She was believed to have brown hair. DNA testing determined with a high potential for accuracy that her eyes were brown or hazel.
A yellow and tan leather strip with two metal rings about 2 inches in diameter was found near her body. There was also a black and white decorative strip with seed beads designed to look like two birds and two diamond shapes that may have been attached to the leather strip.

A platform-style sandal with an approximately 2 inch heel and a single white strap with basket weave section attached to base was also found on the body.

Linn County 1976 body shoe
The sandal was found on the body of a woman whose remains were found in Linn County, Oregon, in July 1976.

A leather coat with fringe and a pair of Levi’s blue jeans were found near the body.
Anyone who has even a guess of who this person is is asked to call Warm Springs Tribal Police at 541-553-2202 or respond on their Facebook post.

Janice Hannigan MP30849 3/1/1971 Yakima WA

Plus Eileen Francis Hynson who is a likely ruleout according to Oregon State Police (via Doe Network) in post #201 above.

More links for Sonja:

She certainly could be a possibility. Namus indicates our Jane Doe could be mixed Native American. Distance isn't really a problem; Americans travel and move around a lot, and in the seventies it seems like everybody was on the road.

I wouldn't read too much into that belt/purse strap/whatever it was. Those beaded designs were very popular at the time.

Hi there-

Is there a possibility this doe could be Roxanne Marie Sims (NamUs #MP13086)?

Side by side:
rsz_roxanne_marie_sims.png

Sims:
  • Age: 19 years old
  • DLC: Sometime around 1977 (namus lists December 31, 1977 but that seems to be an approximation, could have disappeared earlier)
  • Location: Portland, Oregon
  • Height: 5’6
  • Weight: 125lbs
  • Hair: Light brown/Chestnut
  • Eyes: Unknown
  • Race: White
  • Distinctive Physical Features: Horseshoe shaped scar to the right side of eye
  • Clothing/Accessories: Often wore large, light brown “Afro” wig, a short, multi-patched faux fur jacket, and brown, wooden high-heel platform shoes
Doe:
  • Age: 18-40 years old
  • Date of Death: Between 1966 - 1976
  • Location: Sweet Home, Linn County, Oregon
  • Body Discovered: July 24, 1976
  • 5’0 (estimated)
  • Weight: Unknown
  • Hair: Brown
  • Eyes: Brown/Hazel
  • Race: White/Native American
  • Clothing/Accessories: yellow/tan leather strip with two yellow metal rings (each measuring approximately 2 inches in diameter) -- black/white decorative strip composed of seed beads (background/base beads are black and two birds and two diamond shapes are created from the white beads) -- it appears the beaded section may have been attached to the leather strip, leather coat with fringe, levi blue denim jeans (29 inseam), white leather platform wooden sandal.
Doe and Sims have not been ruled out from each other's comparison lists. Sweet Home is approximately ~1:30-2 hours from Portland and is a straight shot down I-5 South. The faces look pretty similar to me as well. Unfortunately the height is the biggest thing off-putting me but the rest seem to match up pretty well.

The mention of light brown hair, the suspected height, and the age range makes me suspect Roxanne a bit more.

The detail about the shoes and jacket make me think Roxanne is a lot more likely than many of the other possibilities we've looked at.
Yeah, that's what got to me too. Even if we don't have a description of exactly what Roxanne was wearing, it sounds like the articles of clothing found with Doe would match her style

Teresa Kay Davis missing from Tacoma WA 11/1/73 is a possibility, although her height is listed at 5’6” and UID estimation is 5’0”.

She is not ruled out and I don’t see her mentioned previously.
