Ok.. what does the 6 years translate into actual prison time at this point?

From the Guardian:

It is notable that Pistorius’ original sentence, when he was initially found guilty of culpable homicide (the equivalent of manslaughter), was five years.

He served 10 months of that in prison before being eligible for parole under house arrest.

The increase in sentence – bearing in mind the judge spelt out how much more serious a crime murder is – was just one year.

It is not clear yet how much of the six-year sentence he will be compelled to serve in prison before he will once again be eligible for parole.

So he won't be eligible for the home detention scheme.

He will have to go back to prison and would be eligible for parole after 3 years served.

Open season on wives and girlfriends in South Africa.

Open season for murder of anyone. Anywhere. With a gun. With grievous force. With or without planning.

From memory six years means in 3ish years the convicted will be out on probation. Walking the streets.
One of the highest rate of murder in the world, now upheld, even celebrated, by this legal (mis)judgement.

#Pistorius Legal experts say OP can be paroled for good behaviour after serving a third of the sentence - that is two years
For all those in prison for full 6 years + for Murder DE , they must be very very angry at the privileges given to Pistorius

And she didn't need to say that Barry inadvertently drew attention in his evidence to the public misconception that there'd been an argument either...just nasty...

Completely agree. She made him out to be a liar who listened to gossip.

Looks like after 2 years - see Deborah Patta tweet post above

...she seems to love the PUBLIC , bracket, close the bracket attention!

I agree. If she wanted to avoid any chance of controversy or future appeals, she could have gone with at least 8, which is what Nel said was his minimum for not appealing. But she went with 6, which is a slap in the face to the family of the victim. He will be out in 2.

paroled for good behaviour after serving 1/3 of his sentence says Debra Patta, that's after 2 years in prison only

The SCA has corrected Judge Masipa once before. Fully expect the NPA to appeal this and for the SCA to correct her a second time.

Completely agree. She made him out to be a liar who listened to gossip.

She made him out to be a liar, who listens to gossip, was uninformed, and she used their kindness and forgiveness, as a JUSTIFICATION for a shockingly short sentence.

that nonsense, because she was smiling earlier
If she's crying it's relief her brother got away with it and pulled it off ,
what could have been 20 years in prison for Dolus Directus Murder, he ended up with max 2 years in prison for Murder DE , and the Judge bought the story because frighteningly she can't spot a liar ! gobsmacked

BIB I got impression she was smiling at the point that DV thesis was disproved.

I know in general, I've been urging caution, all along on sentencing, on how widely they deviate, how she has wide remit, how SA is so liberal in their approach to offender's rights
what I am shocked about is the amateurishness of that judgement, it's specious reasoning, lack of logic, contradictions.

so not only is she totally sub-standard she is also still the stubborn STFU judge, which came through in last judgment.
So I can only deduce what an EGO behind the humble grace

Who checked her sentence beforehand? IDBelieve it was not checked by a mentor etc.

That is why this should be appealed for policy reasons

6 years for Murder, with a lethal firearm is outrageously low.

The bottom line is a violent man murdered his girlfriend in a domestic setting for reasons unknown.

Once more the legal system fails victims of domestic violence.

So all up he will serve about 2 years and 10 months for murder. You'd get more for robbing a 7/11 with a plastic pistol.

Nel promised us that he would appeal for the SCA to sentence OP if Masipa did not give him a harsh sentence. So he is out there now going to ask for an appeal? What is going on? As the broadcast is still going on so are they waiting for Nel and Masipa to appear?

Clearly, she wanted to demonstrate to the public that she's 'fearless'. Not a good mindset in a judge - her role is to ensure that justice is seen to be done...

Is a convicted murderer allowed to compete on the world stage? Im thinking he will work out in the prison gym and for free mind you and then make a come back

Nah, he's not taking any really good meds. Its just his psychopathy. Evil.

Oscar always wins. A good sociopath needs a good enabler and in Masipa he found the very best. It's that simple.

I was hoping that Masipa had been leaned on from above to ensure the right result but alas, no. Back to you Nel...
