OK...how is the locomotive still standing...and the car that was behind it beyond mangled?

Tracks don't have perpendicular lines, do they? Because it looks like something smashed into that 2nd car...detaching it from the rest of the train and the track. I may be way off base but that's how it looks to me.

Amazing, the mayor just said yes, one car was perpendicular to the rest ??????????????

Kinda crazy...because I was sure I must not be seeing what I was actually seeing. It literally makes NO SENSE!!!

I've never been to the U.S.A yet. I'm just wondering do you give your name and address to book an Amtrak train ticket or do you just turn up at the station and ask for a ticket from a to b? Will Amtrak have some kind of manifest of those on board to identify the dead and seriously injured?

Thats actually a great question- in a way I think they just pop up?

HOLY $#$#!!!!! And from that link, one of the cars is almost upside down!

Not sure if anyone was watching one of the local streams earlier...but they were loading people on stretchers into Police Vans. The ones we have all learned so much about in the past couple of weeks. For me, it brought up the Aurora Theater Shooting (which I am currently following that trial) and how so many First Responders loaded people into their cruisers and rushed people to the hospital that way.

You buy a ticket showing photo ID

Mary Schiavo on CNN just noted that the train would not be going very fast as it was entering the curve and she is surprised at the amount of damage to the perpendicular car and said "it would take more than a simple derailment to cause that amount of damage at that speed". Hmmm!

I heard on CNN that you have to supply your name. Harder to track than an airplane because you don't know where people are sitting...but they will have a manifest of all passengers.

Enitre NE corridor (Amtrak) shut down per msnbc

also msnbc track failure, speed or wheel failure possibilities Larry Mann on MSNVC

The picture ID thing (which I didn't know) might be what they will use to check against the lists that the Philadelphia Police Department Detectives are putting together of all the oassengers. And, in addition, to help identify the deceased, and to be able to relay status to their loved ones. On one of the live streams I was watching they were discussing specifically the use of the detectives.
