Chief Miller said 2018 will provide answers to the case. The probe will be turned over to the Northumberland County District Attorney's Office for review. Chief Miller declined to say when or what will be turned over but said that investigators except answers from forensic scientists Dr. Henry Lee, of Connecticut, Dr. William Bass, of Tennessee, and Dr. Jason Kolowski, of Virginia.

Hopefully we will have an answer soon. I can imagine trying to pick away at a huge piece of concrete without damaging evidence using dental picks and brushes...

SUNBURY — The attorneys who were barred by Northumberland County President Judge Charles Saylor from representing Joseph Walter "Mike" Egan in a defamation lawsuit filed against multiple media outlets and Sunbury Police Chief Tim Miller appealed the decision to the state Superior Court. Franklin E. Kepner Jr. filed the petition for review on Monday.

Egan is suing several media outlets, including The Daily Item, for defamation after he said he was mentioned numerous times as the lead suspect in the 1989 disappearance of Barbara Miller. The 30-year-old woman vanished in July 1989 and was reported missing to Sunbury police by Egan.

Eight months have passed since Sunbury police dug up the basement and walls of a Milton home in search for Barbara Miller and now Chief Tim Miller said his department is still waiting on forensic scientists to provide him with answers.

Chief Miller also announced he has turned over the investigation to Cpl. Travis Bremigen, who was also part of Chief Miller's task force on the case, so Chief Miller can "attend to other matters."

Chief Miller said the case has been "silently active" and that he has been working with other "state agencies" for the past several months.

Lot farther along than anyone imagined,' chief says about cold-case homicide probe

SUNBURY - The Sunbury police chief says he believes "we are a lot farther along than anyone imagined" in the investigation of a 1989 cold-case homicide.

Chief Timothy S. Miller on Tuesday made the assessment while discussing the recently unsealed results of last August's search of the Market Street home of Barbara E. Miller.

Warrant: Investigators test for blood at former home of Barbara Miller

A now unsealed search warrant for the former city home of Barbara Miller states that police found suspected hair clumps and used a forensic reagent to search for blood on the staircase leading to the basement

Looks to me like the forensic analysis is being done in a methodical manner and why it's taking a while. LE wants an air tight case.

[h=1]DNA analysis underway in Barbara Miller case[/h]
WILKES-BARRE — Human remains, possibly related to the disappearance of Barbara Miller, have been tested and officials are currently awaiting results from a DNA analysis, according to a national database using DNA evidence to investigate unresolved criminal cases,.

Sunbury police, however, are saying nothing about the status of the case or what testing is being performed in the 29-year-old murder case.

Miller was 30 years old when she went missing on July 1,1989. Evidence in her case was recently entered into the the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, or NamUs. The status is currently listed online as: "samples submitted and tests not complete."

NamUs was established in 2005 by the U.S. Department of Justice to assist in solving cases involving missing persons and unidentified human remains. NamUs regional director Amy Dobbs said she and Sunbury Police Chief Tim Miller began working on entering evidence from the Barbara Miller case into the system months ago.
"You never know how the results will turn out," Dobbs said Monday. "The good news is that now Barbara Miller has been entered into the system where she will remain until the case is closed."

Chief Miller said information police discovered in western Pennsylvania led investigators to NamUs.

"Prior to digging into the Barbara Miller cold case, I was not familiar with NamUs," Chief Miller said Monday.
Dobbs said police submitted DNA from a family member of Barbara Miller to the University of North Texas for testing weeks ago. Dobbs would not say whether or not the tests were being compared to any DNA from any human remains that could have been located. She would only say DNA tests results in the case should be in the hands of law enforcement soon.

Another article from Harrisburg: http://www.pennlive.com/news/2018/05/cold_case_homicide_linked_to_d.html

From the article:

"Unsealed documents earlier revealed a clump of hair was found during an Aug. 9 search of Miller's Market Street home.

The hair, which was consistent with the color and length of the missing woman, was discovered on the bottom side of a tread on stairs, Chief Miller said."

City police are searching for the author of a letter received recently that claims to link Barbara Miller's disappearance with the 1986 homicide of Rickey Wolfe, of Mifflinburg, and with drug trafficking at 751 N. Front St. in Milton.

"The letter inferred that everyone was familiar with the whole "Kathy" former “Egan” situation," Miller said in the release. "The letter referred to the victim as 'this Barb' and it inferred that she (Barb) knew a lot about the situation in Milton."

Chief Miller said the author of the letter appeared to be desperate for him to make the connection to the Wolfe murder and what was described as extensive drug trafficking revolving around the house in Milton.

"You haven’t told us anything that we don’t know the answers to, but we are interested in hearing more of what you have to say," Chief Miller said. “The clock is ticking and now is the time to speak up. Time is running out so if there is something you think we should know please come forward now."

Police: Anonymous Letter Has Information on Barbara Miller Cold Case Murder Investigation

http://wnep.com/2018/05/18/police-a...arbara-miller-cold-case-murder-investigation/

There's another twist in a well-known cold case in Northumberland County.

On Friday, the Sunbury police chief said his department received an anonymous letter in regards to the Barbara Miller murder investigation.

Now, he wants to know who sent it.

Sunbury Police say they received an envelope containing an anonymous letter addressed to Sunbury Police Chief Tim Miller, with the words “HURRY DELIVER ASAP” and “ATTN BARB MILLER CASE” written on the front.

“They're finally putting together the pieces that are, I've been saying all along that have been there,” said Scott Schaeffer, a friend of Miller’s.

Ricky Wolfe was killed in 1986, and in 1990, Schaeffer was convicted of first degree murder for his death

Police receiving calls about anonymous letter

Sunbury police continue to receive calls as they search for the author of a letter who links Barbara Miller's disappearance with the 1986 homicide of Rickey Wolfe and drug trafficking at a Milton residence.

More than a week after receiving the letter, Sunbury Cpl. Travis Bremigen, who is leading the investigation into the 1989 disappearance of Miller, and Police Chief Tim Miller say they have talked to several people about the anonymous letter
We have received several phone calls and have talked to people on the streets," Bremigen said. "We are thankful for the public's help."

The Milton address, 751 N. Front St., mentioned in the letter was the subject of a week-long dig last June. Police believe the remains of Barbara Miller, 30 years old at the time she went missing, were entombed inside basement walls.

NamUs: Skeletal remains, Barbara Miller case might be linked

Skeletal remains found in Clarion County in 1990 may be linked to the disappearance of Barbara Miller, according to officials at a national missing persons database.

Amy Dobbs, regional director of National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, or NamUs, said she saw coverage of the Barbara Miller cold case, entered Miller's information into the NamUs system and it came back with a four out of five star match to a potential missing person.

"It does not mean it is Barbara Miller," Dobbs said while co-hosting a NamUs event in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. "It means that when I entered the limited information we had a potential match."

Dobbs said Barbara Miller's DNA was submitted for testing and the results are pending. Dobbs and Sunbury Police Chief Tim Miller would not say when DNA results are expected.

Miller investigation continues amid wait for DNA report

SUNBURY — One year ago this week, Sunbury police ripped out basement walls of a Milton home based on information investigators said led them to what are believed to be the remains of Barbara Miller, which were entombed inside the cement.

Investigators are still waiting for results from various labs and forensic scientists.

The stalled process is not uncommon and does not mean police came up empty in the weeklong dig last June, Sunbury Police Cpl. Travis Bremigen and other experts said this week.

"We are satisfied with everything we have been doing," Bremigen, who is the lead investigator in the case, said. "I know everyone wants answers and everyone thinks because it has been a year nothing has happened but they couldn't be more wrong."

I'm confused.... Did they find remains at the home in Milton? Why would they think the Clarion Jane Doe could be Miller if they had found remains?

I tend to doubt that they think Penny Doe is Barbara. I think it's more an illustration of how NamUs works. Since Barbara came up as a possible match with the parameters Amy Dobbs put into the NamUs search function, it's a good way to illustrate how NamUs works while incorporating that into a story about Barbara. Amy does say later in the article that the remains may have nothing to do with Barbara.

If they really thought this was Barbara, wouldn't they take the quicker route and just check the dentals? Penny had no cavities whatsoever but did have a stubby (baby) tooth behind one of her adult teeth. Seriously, how long would it take to compare the two?

Sunbury police chief leaves department, Barbara Miller murder probe continues

Sunbury Mayor Kurt Karlovich announced Monday that Cpl. Brad Hare will serve as interim officer in charge of the police department after City Council announced that Police Chief Tim Miller has left the department.

“Cpl. Bremigen will continue this investigation in order to bring justice for Barbara Miller and answers to her loved ones,” Karlovich said. “I want it known that this case is not and will not be affected by Tim Miller no longer being with the department.”

Bremigen said he will be contacting the family of Barbara Miller soon to discuss the status of the investigation.

Sunbury Council Wants Funding for Barbara Miller Cold Case in 2019 Budget

In Northumberland County, as the city of Sunbury works to finalize its budget for 2019, officials say funding is being specifically set aside for a cold case investigation.
The last break in the case was back in May when then-Police Chief Tim Miller received an anonymous letter that was addressed: "HURRY DELIVER ASAP" and "ATTN BARBARA MILLER CASE."

Since then, nothing more has come up.

The mayor says the city wants to keep funding for Miller's cold case in the budget so that if something does come up, the city won't have to cover unforeseen costs.
