Boys' Mom Dies, Fire Ignites Grandma's House In Same Week

Repairs To Grandmother's House Completed By Volunteers

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A mother is dead. A father is accused.

Their sons, temporarily at least, were forced from their new shelter by fire.

If there is a glimmer of light in the darkness of this tragic story, it is how this community came together Wednesday in support of the family, NBC 10's Mike Strug reported.

Joseph Vincent Giongo, 46, showed no emotion Wednesday as Montgomery County Judge Kent H. Albright sentenced him to 20-to-40-years in prison in connection with the Dec. 15, 2007, death of his 42-year-old wife, Bernadette, in the kitchen of the couple's home in the 100 block of West Eighth Avenue.

Giongo previously pleaded guilty but mentally ill to a felony charge of third-degree murder in connection with the crime. Albright imposed the maximum possible punishment allowable by state law.
