Waldron said there are a few reasons why someone would have a bench trial.

"Number one in this particular case, the facts are quite gruesome and often times you'll select a bench trial because you don't want a jury to hear these gruesome facts. Judges are used to hearing all types of facts, especially in criminal matters," Waldron explained.

He said there is another reason too.

"Also, if the case involves legal procedural matters, intent, specific conduct certain statutory elements of an offense if there's a lot of legal argument , you'd rather a judge make the decision than a jury cause the judge will understand all those issues rather than a jury," he said.

69 News will have team coverage of the trial's opening day.

The DA is seeking DP.
That was several years ago --I think DA dropped DP when they were negotiating the plea agreement. Currently, they are seeking life sentence.

The prosecution is seeking a life sentence for first-degree murder, while the defense is asking the judge to find her not guilty by reason of insanity.

Snyder claimed Connor was being bullied at school and wanted to kill himself and bring his sister with him, so he didn't have to go to heaven alone.

Prosecutors say Connor was a happy kid.
In their opening statement, Snyder's attorneys pointed to their client's past, saying she was sexually abused as a child, experienced bullying herself, and is dealing with a variety of mental health issues, including bipolar disorder.
