ChuckMaureen - I have no personal opinion on WPXI, as I'm just a bit out of their coverage area. But I wanted to pull this post of yours forward, as you pointed out an example of their questionable reporting. It's something that personally always bugs me. New information is released and rather than properly editing a prior article to assure only updated info is included, they just toss the new info at the beginning of the old article without regard to the accuracy of previously written portions of the article.

It is frustrating when article text is not directly updated or corrected but I believe there are reasons, one of which is how the Internet and search engines work: time-stamp of articles. This leads to the next reason:
Another reason is for news orgs. to maintain articles in historical sequence, regardless of correct or incorrect content. Unfortunately, there is no definitive method for determining where the issue lies: is it sloppy, inaccurate information gathering or is it that gathering information from multiple "official" sources who aren't on the same page regarding most-recent data leads to confusion as to just what is the reporter supposed to use?
A good journalist is taught to report as told or as seen, no emotion nor opinion should color the data. Since the news orgs. and their reporters are on the front lines of communication they are the first and sometimes only ones to take the hit when information is not accurate or up to date.
