What difference does water temperature make unless you are referring to the body resurfacing? It does take longer for a body to resurface in cold water than in warm water. But falling in is falling in. Unless th
The question is whether or not DJ fell in the water by his own accord.

Its much easier to survive falling into warm, seasonal waters than frigid winter ones where hypothermia is in play.

This is what I think happens in these cases where young males go missing and are later recovered in the water.

I know this sounds awful. But all along in these, I have heard the urinating thing. It just never resonated to me. Especially when drunk, in the middle of the night. You turn , upzip , rezip, and keep fumbling along!

A lot of drunk dudes walking out of their in dark and drunk just does not "seem" all that realistic moo

I know that sounds awful - but other dudes (here) when blasted do you really go out of your way to a take to take a "tinkle" (used on purpose!) when drunk, etcetc alone, in the dark, when it is freezing out?? Need to go when inebriated has a more urgent sense to it!

If there was some prevalent notion to the urination theory they all would not be early 20's , slim, etc

Do we hear about fat mid 40's guys leaving a football game drunk and ending up missing for weeks and in a river, deceased?

I am confident there are instances of such, but - how come in so many of them are the bodies found in areas already searched.

Even water in the lungs could be someone held under . BAL are messed up after decomp, robbery is often a rule out, and most robbers are not murderers! Beat ya up take your money and run.

There has to be something more sinister in some of these. Drunk men have to urinate since the beginning of time- why now??

Ans I do get that (again stereotype warning) females and straight guys do not grasp the differences regarding sexual activity as it relates to the gay culture.

It's just weird, and its picking up in frequency since these "dating " apps moo

I feel that if you lived in the Parkview Apartments, the most direct route would've been coming over the Clemente bridge heading up Federal Street and through the underpass to the apartments. On the way there at the end of the Clemente bridge (on the north shore side) right before the Clemente statue there are a very large/wide set of steps that lead down to the river. I noticed that in one of the photos the family is wearing Pittsburgh Pirate fedoras from a game we had a few years ago. If Dakota attended a lot of Pirate games, he would have been aware of the steps that lead easily to the river. I keep thinking he could've quickly ran down there to go to the restroom and then fell in since there is a ledge with no type of barrier. it is right by the kayak station and ironicslly directly in front of the river rescue. Just a thought.

Hopefully the autopsy tells a lot. Bugs or maggots will have broken apart some of the body and would get to the head last. So, if there's damage to the head could raise a flag to it maybe not being accidental.

But they already said no external signs of anything..... again

Call it my uneducated gut feeling. People don't just vanish in an open public setting. No one saw him on the bridge? No camera picked him up walking down those steps? He is seen walking in Katz then his shoes appear in another video, then nothing. Something happened to him after his shoes were seen. Not only are the cameras on the bridge, but many businesses have cameras pointed so the bridge is visable...still nothing? In this day and age? Unbelievable. Nothing, not a trace. Per his mother DJ although small in stature, was in exceptional shape. He was a runner/jogger, swimmer, walked most places. Healthy eater, etc. I agree with another post here that if he was conscious when he "fell" into the water adrenaline would kick in once that cold water hit him. By looking at the picture in Katz Plaza, DJ looked stable. His gait was strong and he was coordinated. Doesn't appear to be inebriated. If inebriated I may feel differently. But he is even texting.
Therefore, in my opinion the only scenario left to explore is that DJ was removed from that location. How could that happen? Only by vehicle. I can't see any other way. I've paid close attention to family and friends comments about DJ. This wasn't just some party hard grad student. He had a life plan.

This is how I came to this conclusion. I realize it's not factbased yet. I am very interested in what unfolds in the days/weeks to come.
I also believe this case is related to others. I know some here do not agree, but to me there are too many similarities.

Nicely phrased TY!

On the banks of the Mississippi River where it is at its widest point and where the currents are deadly, millions of drunks from all over the world dance, party, stumble and play every year. RARELY does anyone FALL into the river and drown - RARELY.

Pittsburgh has MANY young gay men who are last seen at bars drowning in the river. These aren't accidents, you folks have a serial killer preying on young gay men and you need to address this ASAP.

Or men that appear gay to a homophobic

Autopsy will probably be inconclusive...They will say he drowned...

That's what I think too and it angers me

been here too many times --way to many similairites -- body type, hair cut smile etc

they have already started with no obvious signs of injury

Let's say Dakota went down to the rivers edge to relieve himself - Then what? I'm not a man, but if I was drunk and went down to the river to relieve myself, I would have to unzip my jeans. So let's say I fall in and can't catch my breath...maybe the current was strong and pushed me out. I guarantee you - I'm not going to be zipping up my pants while fighting for my life. The point I'm trying to make here is -I'm wondering if he showed any evidence of that when found?

And that would apply to a lot of em huh? ..... a really good point

If we have the same perp in all similar cases, then sexual preference of the victim is not a factor. I agree. The fact they are 20ish men, alone after dark while intoxicated seems to be the thing this perp desires.
It is almost as if this person or group of persons has figured out some sort of lure that works on intoxicated young men in order to get these guys to walk to the riverbank (if they indeed walked there themselves).
I have often thought of, as an example, how a child predator may lure a kid to danger with the promise of kittens in his car or asking for help finding a lost puppy. But what would entice a 20something male, who is intoxicated, in the cold winter in western PA to want to go there?
The only logical thing I can think of is this person(s) spots the target alone, cries out for help (or something) knowing only the young man will hear because no one else is around and preys on the victim's lack of judgment due to being young & inebriated to lure him near the river.
Just thoughts I've been thinking for some time when it comes to these cases. I've played out the scenario in my mind other ways too. I've wondered if police have ever received calls from young men saying they hear someone yelling for help only to find no one because maybe the perp took off when they notice the guy using their phone instead of coming to help?
These are just my thoughts and nothing more. I'm not happy with how case after case becomes another drunken, accidental drowning and you never hear of anything until the next one happens. Pgh PD won't admit there is the possiblity of a connection/ pattern between cases so I doubt they are doing any kind of outside the box thinking.

Truth.

Agree--if you followed the dates on that real long presser, they outlined getting video weeks and weeks later.

I think if it were the police chiefs son it would not be weeks and weeks moo

Vietmeier indicated that the river current had begun to move the body before it was retrieved.

Are you referring to the guy from Columbus, Ohio?[/QUOTE]

Yes, and i remember it gave me the chillls--the only conclusion one can come to is he was kept somewhere (dead or alive) for quite some time......a long time

Having a body around is a pretty sick person no?? Ot holding someone hostage for a month and a half is a pretty messed up sick person?

I am confused by the angle of butt text. May have happened but we know he was texting (hands) in the photo.

It seems kinda logical to come to the conclusion that he was, in this day and age, arranging to meet someone via text

And to me their ages are huge. Its hard for me to grasp how this generation just goes off with strangers

Far from a prude - the You Tube Grindr video I watched last night (!) was wild to me.

At least in baths you were face to face and in a safe place ad far as murderers go!!!!!

It was wild guys!!!

I am gonna be an old man and tell Justin next time I see him about this, like I did with Joey.

It was interesting that some of you mentioned his gate looked solid. I felt that way too. I also felt that way with Zachary Marr - with him walking and texting.

I just can't imagine someone blitzed, in the dark , walking and texting. It seems like if one was blasted they would stop to text ??

There are a lot of scary grindr stories to be found. Reddit had some crazy ones. Most are never reported to LE and should be!
I don't like that these guys have an insane encounter with a nutjob but are too ashamed to talk about it out of fear of being judged. But that's unfortunately, our society I suppose.
I personally, don't get why talking about sex is still so taboo among grown adults?
We live in a society where there is 'an app for that' and everything else, yet I could sense the LE discomfort when talking about Dakota's "social media app". I think they were fearful to delve into it... There is stuff you just cannot unsee

I don't know what anyone's rationale for not connecting the dots is, but that time of year, in that area it is absolutely freezing out. The river is partially frozen over. Even someone totally drunk would have a hard time making it down to the river to accidentally drown I would guess (but honestly I have never tried, and for some reason I have only been in that area near Duquesne (and the surrounding towns) in the winter...

It makes a difference in the ability to get out. Hypothermia...

Does anyone else find it strange that his phone was found on his body? Had he stowed the phone in a zipper pocket of his jacket or something? How did it remain 40 days in the river on his person? Seems to me he would be texting and looking at his phone the whole way home. That's probably what I would have done. Why had he put his phone away? Why wasn't he carrying it in his hand anymore?
