Missing Pa. person found dead, suspect arrested on homicide charges

The Reading Police Department located the remains of a Pa. man who went missing last August, and have arrested a suspect in his killing.

Reading police have found the remains of a Pennsylvania man who went missing in August, and have arrested someone they think is involved.

Darlyn de la Rosa-Abreau, of Reading, disappeared in the early morning hours of Aug. 8, 2021, when he picked up Johnny Palaguachi, of Reading, in their cab.

The criminal investigations division of Reading police located a body in the area of Old Church Road in North Heidelberg Township, where they found the remains they believe belong to Rosa-Abreau.
 
Darn it. I kept the faith all this time and hate that it ended this way. This is one of those "WHY" cases - as in, WHY did someone have to kill him? Rob him, take his car, but just let him go home to his family. He seemed like such a great guy who was just out trying to do his job. RIP Darlyn and many prayers to his family and friends.

I'm going to watch this case and see what happens:

"Police arrested Johnny Palaguachi, of Reading, who they say was De La Rosa-Abreu's fare at the time of his disappearance and apparent murder. Palaguachi is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and unlawful taking".

Edited to add: Hmm, just read Uptown Limo owner's name has same last name as "JP" - now wondering if "JP" was connected to the business also, maybe also as a driver, etc.? Maybe they knew each other and JP wasn't just a regular fare?

The victim's car, which he used as a taxi, was located with blood on it in Middle Creek wildlife area in Lancaster County in November.

Adams says Palaguachi spoke with police before, has been a suspect since early in the investigation and has made incriminating statements, but they didn't have sufficient evidence to charge him until he contacted Reading police Friday and told them that he killed someone.

Now, he's behind bars facing a list of charges, including criminal homicide, without bail.

"He's admitted to stabbing the cab driver," says Adams.

Adams says a motive isn't clear. In court documents, Palagauchi told police he was in the cab when the victim "angered him," so he stabbed him multiple times in the neck with a pen before burying.

Just days ago, Palagauchi told police he'd lead them to the body, which he did. Investigators discovered human remains in an area of North Heidelberg Township near Blue Marsh.

"We've located a number of bones which we've determined are human bones and we have located a skull," Adams said.

Investigators are waiting for a positive ID via either DNA or dental records, but Adams says they have no doubt about the results.

"I hope through further investigation we may learn more about the potential motive here," he said. "What we have done [is] we've taken a violent person off the street and we've solved the disappearance of this innocent cab driver."
