"The pair was arrested last week after evidence linked them to the dead man's bank debit card."

“They are suspects in the homicide,” police Lt. Eric Hermick said this morning of Cannon and Archer. “Cannon is the stronger suspect for the violence that occurred in this case.”

"Hermick released few details of the latest developments in the investigat"ion. He acknowledged the suspects and Martin previously knew one another, but he would not elaborate.

Unbelieveable that not a word by anyone in this case........nothing about forensic tests, nothing about the guys in jail.........

According to the criminal complaint, Cannon and Martin set up a meeting at his house by e-mailing each other through Craigslist.com. Martin had made a posting on the website and Cannon responded with the words “whats up” and included a sexually explicit photograph of himself.
Cannon and Raheem R. Archer, 23, both of Butler were arrested in January after they were caught allegedly trying to use Martin's debit card to make purchases at two stores.
 
A history of drug dealing & alcohol abuse in govt subsidized housing?!? GET OUT!!!! Lol. I too unfortunately know all too well the shady goings on in such housing.... I lived in a complex for close to a decade & it's amazing the amount of full blown addicts & alcoholics that are permitted to live in such housing; WAYYY more of them moving in than disabled &/or elderly (<-- which subsidized housing was originally created/intended for).
Anywho, I live 20 min from Butler & followed this story & knew that the previous road rage incident that was being mentioned was nothing more than a red herring; which it turned out that it was.... This type of behavior happens on the regular around here so it's nothing out of the ordinary. I am a petite girl who is not threatening by any stretch & even I was the victim of such intense road rage. When I was in my early 20's, I was driving along in town when some idiot literally pulled right out in front of me & if I hadn't been paying such good attention & reacted so quickly, it for sure would have been an accident. I laid on my horn to let the careless driver know I was there & to also let them know of my frustration. It was a short beep but no sooner had I pressed down on my horn the car (who pulled out) braked extremely hard & came to a complete stop. The driver puts his car in park & gets out of his vehicle & has the look of rage on his face & starts walking towards me/my car, with both of his fists clenched. He seen and knew full well I was a petite female & also had to know WHY I beeped but that didn't stop him from taking all of his rage out on me. He was screaming incoherently & wanted me to get out of my car, presumably to attack/hit me & he seriously treated me & acted like I was a full grown man (like himself) who insulted his mama one too many times. I was just sitting there in the drivers seat of my car, in shock, while this lunatic screamed all kinds of crazy ish at me, wanted badly for me to get out of car to fight, & physically assaulted my car. The line of 3-4 cars who since came behind us did not seem to hurry him any & all I could do was sit there & pray he didn't come through any of my windows & just wait it out until his urges for another hit of meth struck him (minutes later) so he would then retreat back to his vehicle & gtf going wherever it is he was going. I am not the only one around this part of the state who has been victim of such road rage. Like I said, sadly it's more of a norm than bizarre. My experience showed me that NOONE is safe from road rage; no matter what sex, age, &/or how non-threatening you are.
 
I knew that whoever did this to this man must've disabled the security cameras &/or erased or took the recordings because the police were clueless at first as to who the killer(s) was/were yet the whole house was equipped with a brand new sota security system..... I also suspected that the killer(s) had to know this gentleman to some degree due to the attack happening all throughout the house; both upstairs & down. The only ways a normal thinking person would head or be caught upstairs -where there is no escape except for out a 2nd story window- with a killer in the house is either because thats where they were initially when the killer surprised them or they felt comfortable enough to retreat to the second floor while in the presence of this person/killer. Then I started thinking why in the heck would this older man voluntary go upstairs with this killer visitor (presumably another man) instead & that's when the possibility of a catfish style murder setup occurred to me. Indeed, it appears that's exactly what happened here...
 
Charges held against suspect at hearing

Police say blood samples taken from inside James S. Martin's house were a match for the man accused of stabbing him to death in December.

Homicide and robbery charges against Christopher M. Cannon, 27, of Butler were held for court Tuesday by District Judge Lewis Stoughton at the end of a preliminary hearing.

At the hearing, assistant district attorney Mark Lope called five witnesses who gave testimony about the circumstances surrounding Martin's death. Investigators at the hearing discussed DNA test results, e-mails and other evidence in the case.

Police executed search warrants of several e-mail accounts that belonged to Martin and found that he had made a posting on Craigslist on Dec. 30.

A user, identified only as “j hamtpon,” responded to the posting with a lewd photograph and the two users went on to arrange a meeting at Martin's house. In one of the messages, j hamtpon, wrote “we have met before,” Page said.

Cannon's girlfriend positively identified the man in the lewd photo as Cannon to police and also identified a coffee table in the background as the table in their shared house. Troopers who had previously executed a search warrant at that address also recognized the coffee table, Page said.

Police were unable to connect the e-mail account behind j hamtpon to Cannon, though page said that investigators are looking into the IP address behind the messages, which would give a location from where the e-mails were sent.

Martin's home did have a security system that included surveillance cameras in multiple rooms and the garage. The cameras were set up to only record when Martin was not in the home, meaning no footage was captured of his killing, Page said.

Cannon is scheduled for a formal arraignment May 9 in county court.

Archer, who waived his hearing two weeks ago on drug and fraud charges, will not face charges in connection with Martin's death, according to District Attorney Richard Goldinger.

Man pleads guilty to using homicide victim's bank card

Raheem R. Archer, 24, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property before Judge Timothy McCune.

The plea agreement calls for a sentence of 24 months probation, restitution fines and costs. He is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 28.
