Found Deceased - PA - Jasmine, 4, & Nicole Snyder, 6, Lycoming Co, 10 Sep 2021 *arrests*

2/22/22 Update: Preliminary hearings for all has been reset to 3/16/22. 3/16/22 Update: Marie Snyder admitted in court Wednesday that she & her lover (Echo) intentionally starved them. Snyder described Echo Butler as the instigator of the abuse, saying she was the caregiver while she was at work. She made the admission while testifying at a two-hour preliminary hearing for Echo Butler & Butler’s father, Ronald Butler. Snyder waived her preliminary hearing on 1st degree murder & related charges & testified for the prosecution. She decided she wanted to do something right for her daughters after not doing so when they were alive, District Attorney Ryan C. Gardner said. Ronald's wife, Michele, who is charged with 3rd degree murder & other counts, also waived her hearing. Defense attorney Robert A. Hoffa argued for dismissal of the homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide & endangering the welfare of children charges against Echo Butler. He pointed out there are no identified bodies or causes of death & questioned whether Butler meets the legal definition of a caregiver for the endangering count. Matthew W. Diemer made a similar argument for Ronald Butler, saying that living in the same home does not translate into a duty to care. There is no evidence he ever supervised the girls, he said. DA Gardner stated at their arraignment he would be seeking the death penalty for Snyder & Echo Butler if they are found guilty of 1st degree murder. Nothing has changed, he said after the hearing. But he indicated it could for Snyder if she continues to cooperate. Michele Butler is not facing the death penalty because she is charged with 3rd degree murder. The judge ruled there is enough evidence for Echo & Ron Butler to stand trial. Marie Snyder & Michele Butler waived their hearings. That means all four people charged in this case are headed to Lycoming County court for possible trial. All four will appear in Lycoming County Court for formal arraignment on 4/11/22.

Guilty plea scheduled for one of four charged in starvation deaths of two Pa. girls

April 11, 2022
WILLIAMSPORT – A guilty plea has been scheduled for one of the four individuals charged in the starvation deaths of two young Lycoming County girls.

Michele Butler, 49, waived her court arraignment Monday on third-degree murder and related charges. The court docket shows a guilty plea date of June 21.

No plea offer has been made at this time, District Attorney Ryan C. Gardner said. Butler also had waived her preliminary hearing.

Her husband, Ronald, 53, also waived his arraignment and is scheduled for trial on charges of endangering the welfare of children and obstruction in child abuse cases.

Arraignments for the Butlers’ daughter, Echo Butler, 26, and the dead girls’ mother, Marie Sue Snyder, 32, were continued.
[.....]
The three women are jailed without bail and Ronald Butler is incarcerated in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Since the article does not mention "when" the arraignment is for Echo & Snyder - I'm going to have to bother you @abbyrdpsu - if you could tell me? And if the Ronald has any dates coming up. I do see Michele has a 6/21/22 date for her guilty plea.
TIA! :)

@PommyMommy - you seem to have found the next court hearing for me last time - is there one coming up for everyone except Michele? If you need the case #s - let me know!
TIA!

Thank you for the link, Shamrock.

From the article:

[...]

Information about the potential sale of Nicole was revealed to Old Lycoming Twp. police on Nov. 2 by Lisa Shoemaker, identified in an affidavit as Echo Butler’s aunt.

It is believed that information about the sale offer is accurate, District Attorney Ryan C. Gardner said. The following is taken from an affidavit:

Shoemaker told police the couple Echo Butler had approached about buying the youngster wanted to adopt her.

Echo refused, claiming Marie Sue Snyder did not want the girls’ biological father, Joshua Snyder, to know.

[...]

Shoemaker also revealed that after she expressed concern to Snyder over how Echo Butler was disciplining the girls that Jasmine was allowed to stay with her much of 2015.

[...]

Other new details in the affidavits include:
  • Snyder, her son Jesse, Jasmine and Echo Butler lived in public housing on Catherine Street in Williamsport from Sept. 29, 2016, through Feb. 21, 2018. That is where Jasmine died.
  • One set of skeletal remains was in a plastic tote and there were mothballs in the graves.
  • Joshua Snyder provided DNA after lack of dental records eliminated that way positively identifying the remains.
  • The Snyders resumed speaking after she was arrested. He went to a hotel in Clearfield where she had been staying to retrieve her personal belongings.

Bail, charges lowered for one of four accused in starvation deaths of Pa. girls

April 20, 2022

WILLIAMSPORT – Bail and the rating of two felony charges have been reduced for one of the four individuals accused in the starvation deaths of two Lycoming County young girls.

Somerset County Senior Judge David C. Klementik Wednesday reduced the bail of Ronald Butler, 53, from $200,000 to $50,000.

Should Butler post it, he is to be placed on intensive supervised bail with an ankle monitor and have no unsupervised contact with children.

He also may not contact the witnesses or co-defendants in the case including his wife Michele and daughter Echo, both of whom are incarcerated without bail in the case.

The two counts of endangering the welfare of children against Butler were reduced from second- to third-degree felonies, which could lead to a lesser sentence if he is found guilty.
[.....]
Butler also is charged with obstruction in child abuse cases, a misdemeanor.

One of the women accused of intentionally starving to death two young girls reportedly made an attempt to sell one of them to a Lycoming County couple for $1,000. That was revealed Monday when search warrant affidavits related to the deaths of Nicole Elisabeth, 6, & Jasmine Jean Snyder, 4, were unsealed.

JUN 16, 2022
Marie Sue Snyder, 33, of Williamsport, is facing felony charges of theft and fraud in addition to charges of homicide for the starvation deaths of two of her three children.

Investigators said from a time period of June 1, 2016 to Nov. 30 of 2021, Snyder received $69,866.27 in public benefits administered on behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS), claiming her two daughters, both of whom were deceased at the time, were alive.

On or about December 14, 2021, police received an overpayment referral from the Lycoming County Assistance Office (CAO) for Marie Snyder, accused of failing to accurately report her household composition, according to an affidavit filed May 24, 2022 by Maria Lesh, special agent with the Pennsylvania Office of State Inspector General.

[...]

Snyder is charged with third-degree felony theft by deception and fraud to obtain food stamps and/or assistance. Snyder is already being held without bail at the Lycoming County Prison, was given $10,000 monetary bail for the new charges.

Snyder is scheduled to appear in court on June 27 for a preliminary hearing on the fraud and deception charges. She is also due in court June 17 for a motion to access records regarding the homicide case.

@PommyMommy - again - it might be a bit early to ask - but is Maria Snyder's next hearing for MURDER an arraignment hearing still on 7/18/22?

I got that her fraud, etc. charge hearing will be on 6/27/22.

TIA! :)
