Doe says no dna available. Is there any chance she would be exhumed for dna? her baby's dna would also provide a hint on the father.
Having her exhumed and DNA extracted is something that's currently being looked into. When I have more on that, I'll let you know. As far as DNA from the child possibly pointing to the father - I'm just guessing, but I'd bet a lot would have to do with the state of the remains after 30 years. I guess we won't know 'til the time comes if DNA can be extracted from the baby's bones at all.
Do they know for sure it was black paint on the zipper? Could it have been creosoult?(spelling) the black stuff they treat railroad ties with. Was there railroad tracks near the suitcases?
Yes, flat black paint on the zippers. And the handles cut off. The killer went the extra mile to avoid leaving fingerprints behind.
There ARE railroad tracks that run along the Lehigh River. From what I've been able to find, I think they're from the old Switchback Gravity Railroad. (but I could be wrong). Way back, it was used to transport anthracite/coal. Later it was a tourist attraction but had been of service for years before Beth Doe was murdered.
One of the sites I found mentioning the Switchback Railroad (there's quite a few):

Betty Redmond. Yes, I thought there was a striking resemblence between her and the state police artist's sketch. She's been ruled out, and I'm pretty sure she wasn't pregnant when she disappeared - if she had been 6 months along, chances are it would've been obvious.
Oh yeah, one more thing. Farmer's Almanac weather history

doesn't specifically have White Haven, but for Wilkes-Barre...
on December 19, 1976 (day before the remains were found) the weather was:
MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE
14.0°F
Minimum temperature
reported during the day.
MEAN
TEMPERATURE
26.7°F
Mean temperature
for the day.
MAXIMUM
TEMPERATURE
44.1°F
Maximum temperature
reported during the day.
For Monday, December 20th, 1976:
MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE
32.0°F
Minimum temperature
reported during the day.
MEAN
TEMPERATURE
38.1°F
Mean temperature
for the day.
MAXIMUM
TEMPERATURE
51.1°F
Maximum temperature
reported during the day.
Good visibility both days and only .05" precipitation on the 19th.
Since Beth Doe & child were found so close to time of death, I don't think the weather would be much of a factor.
