Suriname has extradition treaty with the Netherlands, unlike most South American countries. If he ends up getting arrested there, he could be extradited to the Netherlands for trial and sentence. He would be a hell of a lot better off than in Peru.

Surinam also has extradition laws with Peru.

He can't be extradicted to the Netherlands for a crime that he is accused of in Peru. That's not how extradiction laws function.

I am a little uncomfortable with this fight with the father. Mulitiple stab wounds is usually a lot of anger and a beating.
Do you think she was hiding from Dad in Jorans room?

So, do you think Daddy could have killed her? Just playing devil's advocate! I know this will immediately, be shot down!

I'm joining this conversation late so if anyone already posted this sorry.

But van der Sloot's attorney, Joseph Tacopina, told CNN it was too early to make any conclusions.

"If history teaches us any lesson from van der Sloot/Holloway case, it's that there have been way too many false facts that have been leaked and rumors that have been proven untrue," Tacopina said. "We need to take a step back. I have not been contacted and the family has not been contacted. Joran has not been asked by anyone to surrender."

Well, EVERYBODY is going to be contacted soon.

Interpol has alerted its office in Chile and other bordering countries of the case and placed them on alert in case van der Sloot tries to leave that country, Peruvian Interpol Interim Director Gerson Ortiz told CNN.

An international arrest warrant could be issued in the next 48 hours, he said.

I only wish Joran's father was still alive so he could see what covering up for his son did. :furious:

It seems most unlikely: She was last seen with her friends and then at the casino with Joran and then dead in Joran's room.

I'm praying when I come home from work tomorrow I'll find out he's in custody.

:rose: for Stephany's family

Have a good night everyone!

Looks like the buses don't cross the border. You get off and get a different kind of ride. Taxi, shuttle, that sort of thing.

I think that he probably traveled more than one way, but some of the multiple accounts might be wrong. For example, ABC reported that the body was found on Sunday; CBS on Wednesday morning; and other news sources on Wednesday night.

Exactly, in more ways than one, and we all saw what went down in Aruba - days, weeks was it before anyone set foot on their property and even then IIRC, Pop Sloot wouldnt let them in the main house. Plenty plenty of clean up time there.

Another thing, if he's been drugging and assaulting for the last five years and getting away with it, he probably thought he had it all down-pat. Wasn't counting on this one being the squeaky wheel, especially not in a room registered in his name.

IMO

ABC News just said an international arrest warrant has been issued. They seem to feel it is a pretty solid case, with evidence...

I'm confused. First it was a black truck, then it was a bus and now it's a taxi??

Yeah, reports are conflicting. This one, below, talks of another Chilean border city (Google translation)

PDI confirmed Dutchman accused of murder in Peru into Chile

Civilian police said Joran van de Sloot came last May 31 by the passage of Chacalluta.

Police sources indicated that an intensive search is made in the north of the country.

I checked the area on Google Earth, and noticed there is a regional airport near the Chilean/Peruvian border. I hope he wasn't able to get a flight out of there. He certainly had enough lead time before anyone found the young woman's body.

Hope this link works

This story says he was spotted in a northern Chile city today. Not sure of this media source, may be false, but they quote a Chilean police officer

If true, he may have paid the two men mentioned in the article to help him get across the border.

On another site I read an article saying 2 men entered the hotel room at 8:45 which is close to 4 hours after Joran and Stephanie entered his room. I wonder if these are the 2 guys who accompanied him to Chile?
I'd run and get that article but the site is down. Did anyone else read that?

I thought that it was stated it was Sunday that he either "checked out" or "left" the hotel. The body wasn't found until Wednesday. That's quite a few days to not go and clean a room IF he actually "checked out".

I heard it both ways now, so I am not sure if he "left" or checked out". :banghead:

It would make sense if Joran just left the hotel. If he went through with checking out, that would put the hotel staff on notice that the room is now unoccupied and ready for cleaning.

If he just leaves the hotel, he hasn't checked out and the hotel staff presumes he's still a hotel guest. This buys him more time to put some distance between the hotel and himself.

Surinam also has extradition laws with Peru.

He can't be extradicted to the Netherlands for a crime that he is accused of in Peru. That's not how extradiction laws function.

Oh yeah. But I don't think that Surinam would let him go to Peru if there was pressure from the Netherlands. And you can bet there will be.

Joran committed suicide?
Seems to be busy, but this is what the article says....
BREAKING NEWS: Some reports say that Joran van der Sloot, longtime suspect in the disappearance of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway five years ago and prime suspect of the brutal stabbing death days ago of 21-year-old Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez, has been found dead near the Peru border after allegedly committing suicide.

There are currently no more details on this breaking news but we’ll post updates here in Daily World Trends regarding this piece of news so keep it here.

Natalee Holloway of Mountain Brook, Alabama disappeared five years ago on May 30, 2005 while she was on a trip to Aruba to celebrate her high school graduation. Her body has never been found. The other and just recent victim of van der Sloot, Stephany Ramirez, was found dead inside a room at the hotel Tac in Miraflores. She had been stabbed brutally and was found wrapped in a blanket. The hotel room was reportedly registered under van der Sloot’s name.

If Joran has any knowledge of Portuguese, he will get around just fine in most South American countries.
