In my opinion, the truly crucial aspect of the Peru case is the highly unusual gap between the alleged time of Stephany's death (early Sunday morning) and her body being found (Wednesday morning). If Joran killed her, the length of time until the body was discovered makes little sense, and imho the explanations offered up ("I'll be back in a few days," "don't bother my girl," etc.) are lame and counter to most everyone's life experiences.

Now, I fully acknowledge that any conspiracy theory has the same problem- how do we explain the gap? Surely, any conspirators would have been smart enough to have the body discovered shortly after Joran left, right? Well, not if this scenario, or something like it happened:

Let's say that Stephany was supposed to be the "bait" to lure Joran into whatever sting was planned for him. What if she felt sorry for him, after meeting him, and backed out? What if she told him everything, and urged him to get out of there quickly? Maybe she gave him her keys and let him take her car- telling him where to leave it (this would give him a head start and take her car away from the hotel, making it less likely they'd think she was staying there). She would have been terribly frightened then- did she just stay in his room for a few days? Maybe she snuck out? Who knows- the point is, under some kind of scenario like that, the later discovery of her body (this would end, of course, with her being killed for betraying them) would make sense. In my view, it's the only theory that explains that nagging three day gap.

Is this far out? Sure, most conspiracy theories are. But then, most conspiracies are far out, too. Okay, ready for comments.

Could be plausible if he hadn't confessed to killing her. If in fact the statement of him using the tennis racket rings true (and this is not confirmed at this point), there will be DNA evidence (Stephany's hair, etc) on it.

Now if she was under any threat of being killed for betrayal, I would imagine she would high tail it to her dad for protection.

IMHO - she met him at the casino and he robbed her, then killed her for looking at his personal laptop. He went all psycho, and tried to cover up his crime. The confession is what did it for me, and the videos seen so far.

Mel

Joran van der Sloot simulated as an excuse not to have keys to the room where killed Stephany Flores

New Hotel Video:

Thanks so much! This is part of the video I have been waiting to see!

HE stares at the camera so many times, how in the world did he think he would get away with that story. I guess he was hoping that camera wasn't working and only have the clerk's version of what was Joran said to him about the door being locked.

But it's all so insane...and I really hate to use that word...but my goodness...did he think that he could get away with any of this?

Yup, he did think he would get away with it because he got away with the other one for 5 years ago.

It was mentioned that the hotel staff opened the door. I can try and find the link in about 8 hours as I am going to bed.
For him...prior to his leaving and them discovering the body days later? Wow. You go get some sleep...I'll check back tomorrow.

are you just like 'testing' theories out to see what will fly for a book proposal?

serious question

I can see her being on his computer for no other reason then she was on his computer...and she didn't get off fast enough...and he tried to get it away from her...violently.

There is a statement or something where the clerk went to open the room and he felt so bad that he didn't realize or see anything.

Hopefully someone online will remember with me.

Re: the security cam above his doorway.....maybe it's NOT a big obvious camera. Maybe it's tiny and disguised as something else. Yeah, he looks towards it a couple of times - but maybe it isn't obvious that it's a real camera.

Does anyone know what any of the hotel camera's look like?
I have surveillance cameras on my house. The ones I have are small. But you definitely know what they are. They are mounted under the eve of the roof. Most times people don't see them - I have to point it out. But once you see it - you know its a camera.

When we were shopping them - they actually have fakes. Yes, a fake camera - looks like the real thing but doesn't do squat. Of course they are a whole lot cheaper - but why bother? Point being - maybe he was wondering if it was just a dupe.

The cameras in the casinos are those black "half bubbles" on the ceiling. A lot of grocery stores have them now too.

I think he saw a camera - it wasn't hidden or disguised. Not in a hotel - they would want you to know there is a camera there.

I am so excited about this video. It makes me feel more sure that Peru will "get" him. There's just no way he can say he had nothing to do with it after all that fiddling around out in the hallway on the "empty coffee cup" video.

IMO he was trying to decide whether or not to close the door. He was trying to figure out whether it would be better to pretend he had just gotten back, opened the door, and then raised the hue and cry upon "finding" SF's dead body in there OR if it would be better to close the door and get an employee to let him in and "find" the body at that point.

That's what he's doing with all the weak knocking and leaving the door open and finally closing it completely. Trying to add the finishing touches onto his plan.

Look at his face and arm when he looks up at the camera. His mouth is a little open and then clamps shut IMO in disappointment upon noticing the camera. A second later, his knocking hand goes limp at the wrist and he knows it won't work.

I think it looks like he's holding one donut type pastry.

true ... I was thinking about that and wondering what would draw his attention that wasn't obviously a camera

but I do think he realized it was a camera, however it may have been disguised

I think he realized it and it screwed up his plan to blame it on an intruder

I have seen the video, I am looking for the "statement" by the hotel clerk who indicated he opened the door. It is either on a media interview at the hotel, or somewhere, but we have it somewhere.

Actually I don't need it as I heard it, but I replied to a post and now I need a link. :(

What if he never left to get coffee? Just pretended to be out getting coffee to create reasonable doubt.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to transfer someone ((given the excitability of crowds)) during the wee hours of the a.m. so that there would be fewer people on the street?

I thought I heard Jean C. say that they did not remember him coming into the 24 hour store. Sorry cannot remember which show I heard it on.

Do you have a link to the article about the clerk? Many of us are looking for it. TIA!

How on earth was he going to explain where he was going with the coffee and danish...'cause he was leaving at one point.

his plan was to pretend he just got back with the coffee/danish & locked himself out

but then he realized he was caught on camera? :waitasec:
