Hmm... very interesting questions. However, he probably knew no one would enter his room since he told the staff not to enter his room while he was staying there. He may have even left a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door.

Maybe he left to get coffee to establish an alibi and was going to call the police when he "found" her in the room, but changed his mind and took off. Or maybe he just needed two cups of coffee to clear his mind and figure out what to do. (But why not order one large coffee instead of two?)

IMO, this seems plausible. He had been up all night and knew he had to have a clear head to get out of town. An earlier story from the Peru news media stated he got the coffee at a local grocery store (no restaurant in the hotel or saving money?) Could be the store had one of those self-serve machines with only one cup size. I've done the same thing when traveling - only one small cup size available, so you just get two.

He'd also been staying at the hotel since May 14 with a do not disturb sign on the door, so he knew that staff wouldn't come in the room. All these details have been mentioned in the Peruvian news media, so you get the impression they've investigated all the details and put together a likely scenario for the crime.

prominent political types were at the funeral. This is the exact opposite of Aruba. Vanderslime has no cards to play in Peru. The victims family has the prominence and the contacts and this crime happened to a prominent Peruvian national and was perpetrated by a foreigner that likely murdered another girl. I say he's toast. Even if his family still has money I don't see a lot of Peruvians running to his defense. Her father appears to be a popular figure. I see no mercy coming his way. He picked the wrong place and the wrong victim this time. I doubt he knew who she was or who her father was. Just some girl in a casino to him-probably figured no one would know or care.

By the way... haven't seen this posted yet. The victim's father was not just a racecar driver.

He's also run for president and vice president of Peru.

JVS is screwed.

So...with no money...How did he pay the driver/drivers to take him the 4 hour trip that cost $650???? as he was fleeing...With her money, I presume??

i thought i read she was robbed of $5000? :waitasec:

How does he get this money to move around and visit different places? Is it inheritance money? Gambling? This has always baffled me. What does he do? Is he still in college?

probably allot of illegal stuff...IMO

That sounds like a possible defense strategy. It's very likely, also, that his mother and friends of his father will contribute money for a good attorney. On the plus side, doesn't the hotel have video footage of who came and went? It will be a difficult case to make if there's no video of anyone else going into JVS room. In addition, Stephany was reportedly robbed of $5,000 and JVS suddenly had a lot of cash after he disappeared from the hotel.

It just seems an uphill fight to defend him in Peru where the victim's father has all the connections.

I think the forensics will nail him.

No Name Calling Guys!

I know, I know - but no name calling!

That's just it. I'm nervous. Yesterday I was thrilled beyond belief thinking this is it for him. He will finally get his. Then I just started to worry about someone screwing up/tampering with/losing the evidence, survelience tapes magically disappearing, witnesses recanting their stories or being labeled non-credible, Aruba finding some way to get their little golden boy out of the hell hole prison, and it just goes on and on in my mind.

How many times did Beth get her hopes up that justice would finally be served only to have her heart broken in a million pieces time after time. I guess I will rejoice and be glad when we have something more concrete that justice will be served.

Verminslooth might not have daddy cleaning up his mess this time, but he has a whole island of cheerleaders and supporters behind him, as sick as that is.

I'm thinking/hoping that Joran messed with the wrong person this time. Evidently, Stephanie's father is wealthy & has influence. If Joran should get off on some technicality, I'm thinking her father could hire someone to "take care of the problem" permanently. For one, I don't have a problem with that. That creep has destroyed too many lives!

Peru is now on the world stage. The daughter of a man with political ambitions. What better opportunity to prove to the citizens of Peru that he is a fair man and worthy of their support. Joran will be treated well and will get a fair trial. The media will be all over this for a long time.

Agree. IMO, no need for revenge. Justice is sufficient. Appears to be plenty of incriminating evidence. Revenge will only further delay justice.

I agree...Getting revenge through justice is by far the best way!

I'm late to the party... but I'm just apalled by this photo and the smirk on his face - not surprised, though. UGH!! In the video it looks like he sighs in boredom as he turns around. Almost like, 'here we go again with this nonsense'.

I pray he gets that smirk slapped right off his face real quick where he's going.

I'm with you 1000% on this one. I followed Natalee's case from the very first day she went missing. I participated in a different forum then, because it was before I was aware of WS existence.

Every single day was one of hope and then heartbreak every time the Aruban authorities arrested them and then set them free and every wrench they threw at Beth, Jug and Dave the whole time they were down there and back home. It was the most frustrating, heartbreaking case I've ever followed. My son and husband groaned every time they walked into the room and saw either Greta or NG on LOL. I was probably a wee bit obsessed in my hope for justice for Natalee.

I just said about a month ago that I won't be happy until 3 people are in jail for life. OJ, KC and JVDS. I'm very pleased that he was caught, but I won't be 100% relieved until they say he is guilty as charged and sentenced and locked away.

I sincerely hope that Natalee's family and now Stephany's gets the justice they deserve.

What Goes Around Comes Around and it was a matter of time before this joker got caught. We can only hope that Mama Van Der Sloot doesn't doesn't put up the cash to save her only son from a prisoners life in one of those Peru Prisons. I hope Lady Justice finally gets to lower the gavel on this lowlife.

BBM.

That's fine. That island can continue to "cheerlead" for him. I just hope they know that very few Americans will ever vacation in their country ever again. Myself included. And if they want to continue to think he's a wonderful boy then they can let him prey upon their own young daughters. Then we'll see how much they support him.

Maybe the US and Peru should release his like minded peers into Aruba....I'm sure they would be welcomed with a big beach party.

She knew about him. Her cousin was on the Today Show this morning and was asked about a conversation he and Stephany had. He said she saw a show about him, maybe a month ago, asked him what he thought about. The cousin blew off the topic.

I think her curiosity was peeked.

The fate of Dutchman Joran van der Sloot is in the hands of Chilean President Salvador Piñera, as his government must decide whether to extradite or expel the main suspect in the murder of the young Stephany Flores, daughter of Peruvian entrepreneur Ricardo Flores.

The head of Chile's investigative police, Douglas Rodriguez, said that it is likely that the Dutchman is expelled from Chile but added that this depends on the executive branch of their country.

"If he is evicted, they have to be removed to Peru, which is the country where the crime occurred. His country of origin (Netherlands) has nothing to complain about, "explained a criminal lawyer elcomercio.pe Mario Amoretti.

EXTRADITION PROCESS IS MORE COMPLICATED
If you decide on the extradition process would be longer but also remain in the hands of President Piñera. "The problem is that one should start extradition proceedings ... similar to what happened with Fujimori or the Colombian hit man (Hugo Trujillo Ospina, murderer material Myriam Fefer businesswoman), "said the lawyer.

Amoretti Pachas explains the process: "First you must notify Interpol Peru that captured and Van der Sloot and then the Peruvian justice should be sent to Chile a request for provisional arrest against the suspect. At the same time, the Peruvian judge sees the case should send a request to extradite the Chilean judiciary. This request should include the police report and should have the arguments for which extradition is requested. The Peruvian authorities have 30 days to complete this process. "

"It would take at least two months EXTRADITION"
Amoretti Pachas clarifies that the final decision to extradite or not the Dutchman to the executive branch in Chile. "Chile's judiciary will consider the documents that are sent from Peru and give a recommendation to the Executive. It is the Chilean Government which has the final word. "

The lawyer estimated that at least the paperwork to extradite Peru's main suspect in the killing of the young Stephany Flores take two months. "And there is no deadline," he said.
