I think we may be getting misinformation in the translation. Perhaps, tennis racket was baseball bat all of time, and just translated wrong? I really think the Peruvian Police know what they are doing and have their evidence.

Please forgive me but IMO that is absolutely bizarre for a grieving family member to say. It's not as if she put herself out there as bait to catch a killer. Supposedly these people had never even heard of the Holloway case before Stephanie was killed and now their loved one is a martyr for Natalee?!

They are better people than I will ever be. I guess.

Joran is still not back in Lima?!

It's not bizarre at all! I understand it perfectly. You have to remember this family is in the depths of grief and despair. The likes of which, if your lucky, you'll never, ever have to experience. I have. I know. They're trying to find a tiny piece of grace and goodness to hold on to.

I have been wondering, Is there video in the hallway of his room? Just wondering if you had read that someplace.

I heard the brother say in an interview that someone showed them a copy of his passport and that was where they got his name. (It may have been the owner of the casino, not sure). They went home and googled his name and his pic and the story about Natalee immediately showed up. They immediately panicked and eventually the LE investigation led them to the hotel.

He was also known by other poker players that played in the same circuit. And easily recognizable for obvious reasons.

If you were him and went and got coffee to come back and find this girl dead in your room, would you hang around?

No loopholes this time. imo

bolded by me.

No--I'd run screaming to the front desk for help! I'd call the Peruvian 911 !

They don't even have the death penalty?

Peru is one of nine countries in the world that does have the death penalty, but only for crimes 'committed in exceptional circumstances'. This means crimes that are committed in times of war or genocide or crimes under military law. Murder is considered an 'ordinary crime' and so if Joran Van Der Sloot is found guilty of killing Stephany Flores it is not likely that he will face the death penalty as part of his punishment.

Very few countries , except the USA and some non secular Muslim countries, have the death penalty except during war time. For the sake of Anita, I am glad Peru is among those. Besides , long time incarceration, especially in Latin America, is just dandy to me.

hmmm, odd we heard that same story in Aruba...........

Personally, I can't wait to hear atleast 5 different versions of events from him!

He apparently isn't aware she was seen entering his hotel room.

I'm sure English isn't this families first language. I've dealt with many friends and medical doctors who only spoke english as a 2nd or 3rd language, and many interesting things comes out of their translations to English. Not to mention the fact that they are trying to lift up the deceased and give value to her short life.

I have been wondering, Is there video in the hallway of his room? Just wondering if you had read that someplace.

I've read every link and haven't seen hallway cameras mentioned. Or any video of Joran and the victim in the hotel. Just a human witness (employee).

Here’s the story about paying his hotel in advance:

New details have emerged about the night that Flores died.

Van der Sloot and Flores, who was an avid gambler, were playing poker in a Lima casino late Saturday night and Flores was winning big, police said.

Investigators said van der Sloot invited Flores to his room at the Miraflores Hotel Tac to celebrate her winnings. A hotel employee later told police that she heard the couple arguing. Hours later, Flores was dead.

ABC News has learned that her body was not discovered for another four days because van der Sloot had prepaid his room for 14 days and instructed the hotel's front desk not to allow anyone into his room, including the cleaning staff.

Thank you. I was a little surprised when all the funeral arrangements were taken care of and her burial was complete less than 24 hours after the discovery of her body. And now to learn they didn't get what they need to perform DNA tests... well, it's just a little unusual. :waitasec:
Hi, Panthera. I have heard of instances in the U.S. where the funeral shortly preceded some forensics. It might be that the police investigators did not want to interfere with the funeral and burial plans of this deeply grieving family or that they decided that this intensely followed case warranted more extensive forensic works.

They had to bury her quickly because of the decomposition liquids and vapors. Stephany had been dead for since early Sunday morning. Her body was beginning the third stage of decomp and was putrefying. Bodies decomp faster when there has been venous/arterial injuries (severe beating).

Why does Jane, covering for Nancy have to put Stephany's brother through all the pain of re-living over and over again what he saw etc., etc. I am so disgusted. :furious:

Why would Jane state that "the American people want to know if you identified your sister's body"? :furious:

IMO it's not as bad as NG last night going on and on about Stephany missing an eye, and then describing the body in detail and asking him to repeat it. I almost threw my sandwich at the tv when she said that, but luckily for my tv, I was starving.

I read they were captured on video entering the hotel together as well as leaving the casino together.

and really what difference does it make? We know they were both in HIS room. She was alive when she entered and dead when he left.

GAME OVER for Joran

And again, Ricardo - brother this evening (like his brother on NG last night), like his father today:

Stephany's father, Ricardo, was more wistful and philosophical.

"My daughter had everything in life," the businessman and race car driver said. "Perhaps my error was to show her the pretty side of the world. I didn't show her that there was the other side to the world -- the evilness."

I wonder when he did that? He arrived on May 14, so a 14 day pre-pay would have ended May 28. Staff did not enter the room until June 1 or 2 (depending on which version). So did he pre-pay for 14 days on the 30th when he left, or when he got there in the first place?

I wish we could see the actual police reports and statements.
