In many countries, including Peru, it is standard for the officials to parade the suspected criminal or criminal in front of the media and the public.

Could her demeanor be proof he gave her the date rape drug which incapacitates a person somewhat, and causes them to lose their memory? I am curious when he did this, as they said they found packages of that type of drug in her car. So when and how did he do this? Any ideas?

First of all, did he drive or walk to the market for coffee??? If he drove for the coffee easily could have placed it in the coffee in her car. Goes back to room, she drinks it (didn't they say it takes @40-45 minutes); then he leaves and drops off key for someone else. (the key is really bothering me). I wouldn't let any witness leave the country until everything is proven. Also, where was his buddy's room located in comparison to his room??? JMO

The physical was for CYA purposes and to collect evidence of bruises, scratches, etc. It was videotaped so nobody could dispute anything about it later, IMO.

It's the translation that scews up a lot. It should read: "at 8:40 he left the hotel carrying his backpack and duffle bag, etc. etc."

In the translation, using the word "retired" sounds like he went back in his room.

Is everyone in the media reporting on the "coffee and bread" based on this article?

I did a google search and it looks like the coffee & bread story was picked up by most media sources on June 5th. The Trome story was on the 2nd, but I don't know if it was the source or if the c & b was independently verified by other news agencies and then reported.

JeanC reported from Peru on HLN: a call was received from Atlantic Casino on June 1, asking for VDS. The room key had not been left with the receptionist at the front desk. A spare key was used to enter the room because she thought VDS was in his room.

The call came in at 11:00. (I could not catch whether AM or PM).

If she thought he was in the room, why didn't she just knock? Letting yourself in to someones hotel room while you *think* they are in there, TV blasting, is a good way to get yourself shot. Jus sayin'. Did they try to reach him in his room by phone first, before going up to the door?

Depending on what country you may have no choice. You either give them the passport or no room. Honestly, it's quite common in some countries.

I agree- I hve traveled to Italy 6 times, Greece, Switzerland, former East and West Germany, Poland, Russia, et al and each country is different. Most will keep original for a day or so and return it after making copies, or keep it the entire time in their safe until you check out. depends on the country, and in Italy each hotel was different as to how long it was kept.

All int'l hotels, hostels, pensiones, etc. I have ever stayed in required that you return the key when you left, and you picked it up from the desk upon returning-all of these were large metal keys on LARGISH key chains (so you wouldn't forget and put it in your pocket). I never had the card keys that most hotels here use.

Just my own observations from traveling abroad.
