nb, Shannan was never diagnosed as schizophrenic, her sister was. Article is incorrect in that afaik
Snipped. She wasn’t schizophrenic but was diagnosed as bipolar. Everything I’ve seen seems to suggest that she wasn’t taking medication at the time of her death

I could believe that Shannan’s death was an accident, but I find it almost impossible to believe that it was an accidental *drowning*. It would be incredibly difficult to impossible drown in water that shallow, even while highly intoxicated.

IMO if she did die accidentally, it was not a drowning.

I am reading 12 plus depositions. I have never read she was diagnosed as bipolar. I have read zero to suggest that she wasn’t taking medication at the time of her death.

I'm wondering whether this is hear-say or whether a doctor has ever testified to this diagnosis?

Also it's down to how stable she was in the days preceding her disappearance and subsequent death which I believe is murder.

The claim of bipolar disorder is often repeated in the media, (CBS link I replied with in another comment talks about it) but I honestly have no idea where the information originally came from. I would be curious to know.

Edit: I’m trying to find more sources that mention bipolar disorder. It seems it was first reported around the time she went missing. I’ve found some stuff that seems to suggest this information came from one of Shannan’s sisters. If that’s the case, it’s still hearsay, but IMO if she was in fact bipolar, that could easily have played a role in her death.

If I find an approved source I’ll post it.

According to this article, it was Sherre Gilbert that said that Shannan had been diagnosed as bipolar and stopped taking her medication while she was still in high school due to the side effects.

No doctor has testified to it, but I don’t have any reason to believe Sherre Gilbert is lying. I will say, bipolar disorder is really commonly misdiagnosed when someone is having severe mood swings. I was misdiagnosed as bipolar as a teenager and even went on medication, but as it turns out I’m not actually bipolar.

Based on that, I believe Shannan probably did go to a psychiatrist and receive a diagnosis when she was younger, but whether or not she was actually bipolar is anyone’s guess. We don’t know how many times she saw a psychiatrist or when the last time she even went to a psychiatrist was.

I believe this link is considered a MSM source; my apologies if it isn’t.

bi-polar is not fatal and there are no incidences of it shattering a hyoid bone in any medical texts.

I meant that her fearful and erratic behavior before her death could potentially be related to bipolar disorder, not the actual cause of death. A big part of me wonders if she left Brewer’s house in a state of paranoia, and met with foul play at the hands of someone else entirely.

I personally am undecided about whether I think her death was accidental or a murder. I personally think it could have been either. The broken hyoid bone is obviously significant, but I’m not a medical professional and don’t understand all the nuances behind why two different autopsies on the same person can have different results.

I don’t, however, believe that she died of an accidental drowning.

*2011:
The oldest of Mari Gilbert’s four daughters, Shannan finished high school in New Paltz at age 16. “She wasn’t street-smart, but she was book-smart,” Mari says. Shannan had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder but stopped taking her medication, complaining that it gave her the shakes.

I unfortunately can’t access this article but I read another article a little while back that talked about who Shannan actually was as a person. It’s very sad and unfair that she, and all of the other victims, were referred to as just “prostitutes” for the longest time.

Shannan was an intelligent, driven, beautiful young woman who had her entire life ahead of her. She had much bigger dreams than sex work. It’s actually incredible that she was able to graduate high school early while struggling with mental health issues *and* having to navigate the foster care system. I hate to think about how terrifying the last moments of her life must have been. :(

This is worth repeating.

"the reporting on Shannan's last morning seen a live comes from Pak's account."
While we're at it, it is not the same as Pak's account in his deposition with Ray. Or with other media. That is also worth repeating.

Pak tried to ask Ray for 100.00, which he said would help him remember the truth.

I haven't hit that part in the depo. Wow!!!

There are four pages on each sheet...they are arranged so you read top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right, then go to the next sheet and return to top left. I took a photo between pages. The interesting part is the bottom right of the upper page, and the top left of the lower.

Shannan Gilbert had called 911 and said someone was trying to kill her. That call lasted about 22 minutes. There were two other calls. The search for her led to the discovery of four women in burlap sacks in a matter of days. '

Since it was Ray, I assume this was a deposition for a civil (monetary) action? In other words, this isn't Pak being interviewed by law enforcement?

Thanks again. It’s interesting that the 59th Street Bridge is coming up in Pak’s depo as where he picked up Shannon and then a couple of days later, he was told to pick up another escort there. 59th Street Bridge was also mentioned a few times in the RH bail doc relating to cell pings, if I’m remembering right. I suppose this is a popular spot for escorts to be picked up from. Another ”coincidence“ between Shannon and the G4. I apologize if what’s new info to me is redundant to others.

also interesting that Pak says he was convicted in 2003/4 of “misusing a passport“ to help an Asian male illegally enter the country. I’m having a hard time not letting my imagination jump to conclusions. I do hope someone is looking into any connections to RH.

It is a decently central location in 3/5 boroughs. And one of the few non-toll routes.

It can be very expensive to take toll routes to LI.

Yet- it did stand out to me, too.
