Update: Zahau Attorney Submits New Files to Investigators

April 10, 2012

Snip-

"In the Rebecca Zahau case, submissions have been made to the AG and DA. On behalf of her family, thank you for your support," the post read.

Bremner responded to follow-up questions via text message, saying that the attorney general will not review the case until the District Attorney also has been consulted.

"The AG won't act until we have gone to the DA first," she wrote.

Attorney requests new probe of Coronado hanging

May 10, 2012

Snip-

The attorney for the family of Rebecca Zahau has submitted a detailed request to the state Attorney General’s Office asking for an independent investigation into her hanging death at her boyfriend’s Coronado mansion last summer.

Seattle-based attorney Anne Bremner said the Sheriff’s Department and District Attorney’s Office have turned down similar requests she submitted, paving the way for the official request to the attorney general.

I noticed a few weeks back the cease and desist notice sent to Bremner in 2011 was drawn up by none other than attorney Dan Webb. Literally, Dan has been involved in this case since 2011. As well, notice is was sent via email.

The letter, obtained by KFMB News 8, appears in its entirety below:
From: "Webb, Dan K."
Date: September 6, 2011 6:43:13 AM PDT
To: "abremner@XXXXXXXXXXXX.com
Subject: Jonah Shacknai

JS seemingly bent on “skirting rules” in Coronado, his way or the highway?

Snip-

In Coronado, however, some see him as a tenacious man seemingly bent on skirting rules governing his 103-year-old house, a state-designated landmark.

When Shacknai in 2007 bought the John D. Spreckels mansion, built by one of San Diego’s first tycoons, he agreed to not make major changes to it, according to historic preservation officials. In exchange, Coronado granted him a substantial, long-term reduction in property taxes, as allowed under the state’s Mills Act.

He moved to modify the house anyway, seeking city permission for several projects such as replacing a set of windows with French doors and adding a hydraulic roof over part of the structure. Some minor changes got the go-ahead.

Many locals were perturbed by Shacknai’s seeming eagerness to challenge rules he had agreed to. “I thought he was as arrogant as hell,” said Jeff Alison, a neighbor who attended City Hall meetings on the proposed renovations. “It was his way or the highway.”

Maybe a Freudian slip? Remember the person found civilly responsible for Rebecca’s death admitted to viewing *advertiser censored* just before he allegedly found her hanging nude from a balcony. Weird, huh? Shame on the defense, in my opinion.

Snip-
Bremner said Adam Shacknai claimed during a lie detector examination that he was viewing *advertiser censored* on his iPhone just before he walked out of the mansion guest house and found Zahau hanging.

Thank you BettyP

Jonah's letter

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/page/letter-jonah-shacknai-california-attorney-general-14563347

It clearly states that he accepts the findings of the SDSO and Coronado PD's investigation.

"I was and continue to be persuaded that the announced conclusions were sound, scientific and supported by a thorough and competent investigation."

"To be clear, I have no reason to doubt the San Diego and Coronado authorities' findings and I remain appreciative of their professionalism and deddication throughout this process."

and here's the money quote:

"I would respectfully ask that you undertake to evaluate the investigatory methods and conclusions of the San Diego and Coronado authorities in this case."

He did not ask them to reopen the investigation, only to evaluate the investigators.

That is why the AG's office responded as they did, stating that there was no evidence offered of misconduct, conflicts of interest, etc. on the part of those conducting the investigation.

IMHO, it seems to be an attempt to make it appear he was asking for the case to be reopned when, in fact, he didn't.

I'm surprised you are surprised that TOS requires links when stating facts such as what a verified attorney on WS posted about Jonah's letter to the AG.

To preserve the integrity of the factual information contained herein, Websleuths does not participate in rumor mongering. When claiming something as a “fact,” you must prove it. Be able to provide links to information from approved third party sources; for instance, mainstream media (MSM), law enforcement (LE), and admin-verified case insiders.

I was unaware that “maybe” and “JMO” constituted “facts”.

Requesting links for every single post seems more like a last ditch effort at creating an argument out of something that isn’t there than it does trying to enforce TOS.

A life-like mannequin wasn't needed during the trial when the knot-tying expert was on the stand displaying the knot-tying which he proclaimed were simple and a gorilla, spider or anybody could copy. (I paraphrase.) I can't answer why the Plaintiff decided $8,000 was needed just for closing arguments which can't be considered evidence. Perhaps an explanation will be provided after appeals are filed.

Maybe the defense should have invested some of their expensive per-hour charges into some life-like displays and demonstrations to substantiate their defense if Greer’s was so influential.

Yes, very sex obsessed and focused it seems.

Verified attorney Gitana1 in response to JS asking to reopen the investigation??? Hope this helps!

BBM:
Well, hmmm. I just read the letter from Shacknai. Reading between the lines, he is not really asking that the investigation be reopened. He is asking that LE's protocols and investigative techniques, their methods and conclusions, be evaluated. That is a little bit different.

For those who may feel he had something to do with it, his letter may seem quite self-serving. For those who don't, it may seem that, while he supports the findings, he wants their validity proven to a skeptical public.

BBM:
I read his letter to the AG. Using my lawyer hat, it does not appear that he is requesting that the case be reopened. It appears that he is requesting that their investigative protocols and resultant conclusions be evaluated. There is a difference.

He ends the letter stating that after such an evaluation, should the AG determine further investigation is needed, he would back that. But his letter does not demand that the cases be reopened. In fact, he is quite clear that he supports the findings.

Thanks for digging that up. I'd forgotten about my comment on that! We all knew Jonah's appeal to the Cali AG was bogus. The work done here by everyone is amazing.

Looking back, its amazing how much time, money and effort JS put into covering up the real facts on RZ's death.

The verdicts against AS last week had to have been a huge shock to JS as well.

I’ve worked with Gitana1 on another case here WS. Very impartial and they know their stuff.

Frankly, I admire Greer more because he had the mannequin made. It’s a perfect and detailed visual aid, so that the jury could see what was and wasn’t involved in cutting Rebecca down. Having the lifelike mannequin made is only being questioned and demeaned by the defense because it didn’t help their case at all. High-powered Webb must really be upset to be outsmarted by a low-key San Diego attorney.

1000% on your last statement. I think that's what his hissy fit in front of the press was all about. Arrogant people never learn that their arrogance almost always trips them up.

The Lifelike Reproduction of Rebecca Zahau No Longer Alive, was a masterstroke, imo. The defense in cases like this work to either vilify the victim (check), or make the victim simply disappear from the argument, and make everything all about the accused (check). Mr. Greer's Lifelike Reproduction of Rebecca Zahau No Longer Alive completely destroyed the defense team's efforts to make her disappear.
