Officials have not announced where they are taking the baby to be treated.

Charlotte and Eric requested to stay at a Navy base hotel and then travel to New Mexico, where English lives.
Because the family will have to abandon most of their possessions, English is working with friends in San Diego to collect donations to give the Kaufmans when they arrive.

It is absolutely negligent to take a toddler not to mention two on a cabin cruiser. I had a 33 ft. cabin cruiser and storms would pop up all the time. Not to mention the chance of a rogue wave just showing up. I had a very bad experience on my way to Bimini, when the drive shaft came apart and we began taking on water, I got a float shoved in my face and heard the words, here take this we're going down. When I looked out the window all I saw was pitch black. I stood up into at least 3feet of water. The water pump was not able to handle the inflow of water. So we did everything to keep the boat afloat. We saw a light and headed for it Lucky it was Bimini but it was on the side that was owned by the Rockefellers. The Rockefellers weren't there. We spent the night on the beach and the next morning the housekeeper told up we were trespassing , we told him we were desperate and had to land where the boat wanted us. He saw the boat busting up on the rocks. It was then that he informed us that those waters were infested with sharks. We were walking back and forth all night trying to salvage what we could off the boat. After that experience I would never bring any children or animals on the seas with me, there are way to many circumstances that could call for immediate action and the last thing you need to worry about is a child or animal.

I was scared just reading about what happened to you!

A baby's ears are so sensitive and I would like to hear from an MD about the effect on a baby's equilibrium with the constant motion of the sea for extended periods of time. It seems to me the children could have all kinds of issues arising from this stupid trip (her words not mine).

I am glad the Navy sank their boat. They wanted to tag it and just let it drift so they could somehow find it again. Pffffft. Bravo, Navy Sailors!!

The article:

The family reportedly was given one trip to get their things off the boat – as much as they can carry -- before sailors sunk the Rebel Heart in the ocean, according to a Facebook update English posted Sunday evening.

I really couldn't understand what the big deal was. People sail with young kids, I know a couple who did this around the world. I didn't read anything as I thought about this. But then I read facebook. Crazy. Taking a ride from strangers in mexico with your children how foolishly stupid can you be. And I saw the ship.. Kids can't even play outside without almost falling in arghhh. I could go on. Maybe they should of traveled the world before they had kids. I hope the girl is feeling better.

I read as much as I could stand to. This woman is a selfish idiot with no common sense whatsoever!

I have been having the same thoughts about this family as have been expressed here. What irresponsible behaviour! I can't imagine taking two young children )one a toddler; the other barely older than a toddler) out on a small vessel to cross the ocean. I do hope child and family services gets involved.

Poor little tykes with idiots for parents!

Hope the baby is okay!

They should have to pay for the rescue! :gavel:

While shaving, my teeth chattered as a Pacific breeze danced around the dodger and I apologized to Eric, “Sorry, but you’re just gonna get what you get with this shaving job. Hard to get my legs smooth when I have goose bumps.”

“Charlotte, I think you are the only woman to shower outdoors in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and shave her legs, much less worry about the quality of the shave.”

“You think so?” I scrunched up my eyebrows and rinsed my razor in the pitcher I also use for blending food with my food processor wand. “Nah, I bet plenty of other women have too.”

Omg...shaving in the blender pitcher, rinsing diapers in the gally sink..are these people for real? Could they not at least brought a bucket for such things? Those poor babies...:banghead::banghead:

It's sickens me that soon they will be making the rounds on the morning shows...disgusting!

I hope they are met with much animosity!!!

I'm glad to see they are almost universally criticized. I agree this is a mad attempt at procuring a reality show.

"We understand there are those who question our decision to sail with our family, but please know that this is how our family has lived for seven years, and when we departed on this journey more than a year ago, we were then and remain today confident that we prepared as well as any sailing crew could. The ocean is one of the greatest forces of nature, and it always has the potential to overcome those who live on or near it. We are proud of our choices and our preparation," the statement from the Kaufman's said.

The Kaufmans also said they were disappointed to lose their sailboat and their home.

Being a parent means making sacrifices in the way you've "always lived" if that lifestyle puts your children at risk. Freaking idiots.

bbm;

Um- not quite. The longest trip before this that they had ever done was 4 days. And they had an apartment in San Diego along with the boat before the husband sailed it to Mexico. They lived in the docked boat while in Mexico.

His CG license was not for ocean travel either.

What is wrong with people anymore. They should have done this before the kids. Don't they have family that said, "Are you two nuts". I would have. jmo
