Maybe, but not necessarily. Maybe they wanted to hear something concrete because they said 'and review of the records' and he was not able to point to any verifiable records. Maybe his answer turned them off because he is only using the killer as his source.

Well, he didn't have to ask her. He's read her journal, and so have I. One of the things I found completely out of place in them was an entry giving a tiresome lesson on the LOA. I wonder if he found it odd that she was teaching her journal something it should already know, since it was hers. I know I did.
