Yeah, but you don't have to "get" people to testify for you--you can force them to testify for you. That's why I've been focusing on someone truly beyond the court's jurisdiction and not easy to order to appear even by phone (i.e., someone out of the country).
Oh ok. But then if they're already here, then they would be in the court's jurisdiction. And they could be forced to testify, if I'm remembering what you said correctly. Or is JSS bound by a promise she made while the witness was still in New Zealand or wherever?
