UNSOLVED MURDERS, MISSING PERSONS, AND THE UNIDENTIFIED ON LONG ISLAND 1980=2011
To aid me in my own sleuthing and because I have OCD, I have been working on a list of unsolved murders and unsolved missing persons cases on Long Island going back to the 80's. I have taken this information from various sources. This was very tedious, particularly since many of these articles were poorly written or researched. I left out any gunshot wounds. Carbuff made a list in the beginning but I think we have a better perspective of what may be important than we did in the beginning. I did this to see if a pattern would emerge. What did surprise me was the number of young men in the list. Were they individual murders by separate people or could they have been by the same SK or another SK targeting male prostitutes or male trannies? I notice that like the girls, most of these males are small. Another victim that always pops out at me is Colleen McNamee who disappeared leaving a treatment center. Any way, hope this might be helpful to someone else. Feel free to point out any victims I have missed or any mistakes.
1980 to 1990

Feb. 1, 1982 TINA ELIZABETH FOGLIA disappeared from a Hammerheads nightclub, sunrise highway. She was seen leaving with a man. She was found on Southern State Pky, which is a 5 min. drive from Oak Beach. Found in 3 separate plastic trash bags. She was dismembered with a surgical instrument and found by workers picking up garbage. Police always felt that the person who did this could be a doctor or has experience in surgery. She was found a couple of days after leaving the clug. Shulman and Rifken were ruled out.
July 15, 1982 PRINCESS DOE in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Blaorstown, NJ. Police believe the woman was most likely from Long Island. White female, age 14-18, 5,2', 100 lb., wearing red V-neck pullover shirt with yellow piping, wrap around skirt with red, white and blue print, gold chain with white beads, gold cross, shoulder length brown hair, both ears pierced, left ear twice. Dead for about 3 weeks. Blunt force trauma to the head. Possibly a victim of Arthur Kinlaw, now in prison for other crimes.
June 12, 1984 KELLY MORRISSEY of Lynbrook, NY, last seen walking west on Earl Avenue and Merrick Rd. She is believed to have been destined for Captain Video, a video parlor half a mile west of Merrick Road, but she never arrived. One of Morrissey's friends, THERESA FUSCO, disappeared on Nov. 10, 1984, almost 5 months after Morrissey. Several months after Fusco was found another area teenager, JACQUELINE MARTARELLA, 19, disapppeared after she left a friend's Oceanside home to go to her workplace at Burger King. Police are looking into the possibility that Martarella's, Fusco's, and Morriseey's cases are all related. All 3 women were Caucasian teenagers who were last seen walking alone in the evening hours. Both Martarella and Fusco were strangled and were found naked, their bodies dumped in open fields. Their clothing was never found. Three men were convicted of murdering Fusco and served 17 yrs. in prison for the crime before they were released after DNA testing cast doubt on their guilt. One of them was retried and acquitted of all charges; the other two are waiting for either a retrial or a dismissal of the charges. Prior to her disappearance Morrissey had bragged that she knew one of the defendants in the Fusco case and even had the key to his apartment.

Nov. 10, 1984 THERESA FUSCO, friend of Kelley Morrissey disappeared. Body found 3 wks. later on Dec. 5, 1984 about 5 blocks from her home. She had been raped and strangled. Found naked in an open field. See Kelly Morrissey above.
March 26, 1985, JACQUELINE MARTARELLA, 19, disappeared after she left a friend's Oceanside home to go to her workplace at Burger King. Her body was found on April 22 on a golf course. Found strangled and naked in open field.
“She disappeared from a nighttime street in Oceanside Long Island on March 26, 1985. She was just nineteen years old 4 feet 11 inches and 95 pounds and her name was Jacqueline Martarella. Her murder remains unsolved. Jacqueline Martarella was found in April 1985 hidden in the tall reeds adjacent to the seventeenth hole of the Woodmere Country Club in exclusive Lawrence, Long Island. She was nude, ligature strangled and raped. Behind the course, in a secluded wooded section about six hundred yards from where the body was found, a small cave sat in the clearing. Inside this cave, was actually an abandoned root cellar from an estate that had stood on the property years before, we found shocking evidence. The walls were emblazoned with satanic symbols and inverted crosses. Outside the cellar they found clothing that looked very similar to what Jacqueline was wearing, according to her parents”. June, 1986 PATRICIA COSTELLO of Brentwood, Suffolk County, was living in Bay Shore at the time of her murder. She worked as a topless dancer/cocktail waitress at various bars in Suffolk County. At about 5pm, Sunday, June 1, 1986, a horseback rider in Heckscher State Park found Ms. Costello’s nude, strangled body, approximately 200 feet from the shore of the Great South Bay in Islip. Seemingly, the assailant tried to make the murder appear to be a suicide by tying one end of a piece of material around Ms. Costello’s neck and the other around a nearby tree. Cannot find any more information.
1990 to 1995

July 18, 1992 IVONNE RIVERA, vanished from TJ's, once a popular bar in the waterfront village of Babylon, 23-year-old statistics major left the bar
alone about 2:30 a.m. , planning to walk home. Her battered, naked body was discovered by a man walking his dog in a grassy area near the Babylon grade school. The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma. Police never recovered her clothes, and declined then, and now, to say whether she had been sexually assaulted.
COLLEEN MCNAMEE, 20, of Holbrook, died from strangulation in 1994, she was last seen in the area of Hauppauge leaving a drug rehab clinic which if you are local you know it is in the vicinity of the state office buildings which house the courts, DMV, etc.

(12/17/10) WOODBURY - The ongoing investigation into the four female bodies found near Gilgo Beach over the past week is giving new hope to the parents of a Holbrook woman who was found murdered in 1994.
Charlotte and Larry McNamee say they're hoping this case will get police to revisit their daughter's cold case.
Colleen McNamee was found strangled off of the Long Island Expressway near the William Floyd Parkway. The killer has never been found, and the McNamees, who now live in North Carolina, say their contact with police has become almost nonexistent.
1994 RITA TANGREDI-BEINLICH, 31, of East Patchogue died from strangulation in Blue Point, body discovered in different locations. No other information.

June 28, 1997 found: (Probably died June 25, 1997) PEACHES, unidentified black woman, torso found with head and hands cut off, found by a hiker in Hempstead Lake State Park. She was wrapped in a black plastic garbage bag and stuffed into a dark-green Rubbermaid container with a floral pillow sham and frayed red towel. found by a hiker among the heavy roadside brush of West Hempstead’s Lakeside Drive. A scar on the woman’s lower abdomen showed she had given birth by Cesarean. Peach tattoo on her left breast. An autopsy revealed she had been dead no more than three days when she was found. A Connecticut tattoo artist recognized the picture and remembered the girl he had given it to, a young black woman, aged 16-30, visiting from Long Island. She came into his shop with her aunt and cousin, and she mentioned something about having boyfriend problems.
May 20, 1998 found WHITE MALE, across from 33 Leahy Street, Brentwood in overgrown sump/ White male, 15-17 years old, white boxers with blue vertical stripes, green/black jacket size XL labeled “Alliance Down,” shirt with “Chicago” written on it, black hiking boots “Buffalo” brand USA size 8.5 yellow stud/post earring with green stone, white plastic rosary beads, green plastic key ring inscribed “Hands of Gold Jewelry,” a store in Copiague. August 26, 1998 last seen, JIMMY TSUI leaving his residence in New Hyde Park, NY, 20-year-old Stony Brook student DOB March 27, 1978'5'10, 140 lb.
Asian male, black hair, brown eyes. Blue jeans, nickname Jimmy, went missing in New York less than 3 months after Yeshiva University student Joshua Bender disappeared.
Dec.24, 1999,Suffolk County, WHITE MALE, 42-51 years old, stainless steel rod in back, severe scoliosis, right hand healed fracture. Black denim pants, black Nike sneakers. NCIC#: U-370001697

Mar. 9, 2000, found WHITE/HISPANIC MALE, ½ mile east of Wolf Hill Road, Dix Hills, 50 feet off shoulder, 25-45 years old, 5’8”–6’0”, 140 lbs, black hair, teeth missing. Dead up to two months. NCIC#: U-420000973.
9/1/2000 11/9/00 & 4/4/11 UNID'd Mutilated remains of FEMALE found, had been dead several weeks before. She was nude, her body was chopped into pieces and her head, hands and right foot were missing. A forensic exam determined she was a brunette, white or HISPANIC, no more than 5-foot-5 or 125 pounds, and between 35 and 40 years old. wrapped in plastic bags. Her right foot and hands were found 4/14/11. She has now been id'd as JANE DOE NO. 6 with some remains found at Oak Beach. Police have done a reconstruction for her. Baby Doe found just East of her, OTHER body parts of Jane Doe #6 found in Manorville 2/19/2000. Her torso was located in the same Manorville area as Jessica Taylor's torso. Dismembered arms, legs and skull.
Nov. 23, 2000, UNID'D MALE found , intact and clothed. The victim had been dead for about three weeks, was white or HISPANIC, 20 to 30 years old, about 5-foot-6 and 130 to 150 pounds, and had black hair, found between exits 68 and 69, south side of eastbound LIE has surgical staple possibly from a previous fracture, wearing M blue/white striped Gap boxers. Crushed neck bones indicated he had been strangled.
2001=2006, found 3/29/2011 JOHN DOE #8, Asian Man,male tranny The male victim was 5-feet-6-inches and was missing both the top and bottom molars and one of his top front teeth. Investigators determined that he was wearing women's' clothes when he died between five and 10 years ago, Dormer said.
July 26, 2003 and 3/29/11 found: JESSICA TAYLOR, an upstate New York native, last seen July 18 to 21. 2003 working as a prostitute on the streets near the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, her nude torso was found in the Long Island Central Pine Barrens just off Halsey Manor Road in Manorville near the Long Island Expressway. A woman walking her dog came across Taylor’s butchered body on a pile of branches. Police say she had been dumped about a week before on a plastic sheet, her head and hands cut off.
Photo taken at the scene shows a tattoo on the right side of her back, a red heart with an angel wing that said, ‘‘Remy’s angel". with dozens of razor-thin crooked gashes, as though someone spent some considerable time not merely cutting the tattoo off but repeatedly slicing it from top to bottom.
A Washington, D.C. detective recognized the tattoo, six months later, as belonging to a woman reported missing by another local prostitute. She had been arrested for prostitution in Atlantic City, New York and D.C., where she had just relocated from that same month. When Taylor got into a car near the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattanin this area, she ended up 70 miles away in Manorville, where police say she was merely dumped, after being killed somewhere else.
July 30, 2003, four days later, hunters found the body of a WHITE OR HISPANIC MAN in his 20s with black hair in the woods off the eastbound side of the LIE near Exit 68—also the same patch of woods. He was wearing light blue-and-white striped GAP boxer shorts and had crushed neck bones—meaning he was strangled.
Nov. 2, 2003 in Montauk Harbor, WHITE MALE, 23-43 years old, 108 lbs, 5’8”, Perry Ellis America corduroy trousers size 30/30, Thom McCann shoes size 9.5, brown belt size 34. NCIC#: U-880004755
Nov. 10, 2003, poss. died in July, WHITE MALE, south of Long Island Expressway, Manorville, 5’6”. Died up to four months earlier. He is estimated to have been anywhere between 35 and 50 years old at the time of his death.
March 26, 2004 Died 1984? WHITE OR HISPANIC MALE, found n median of Northern State Parkway next to utility road between exits 38 and 39 in Plainview. 23-57 years old, 4’11”–5’4”, 26-inch waist, thin build. Wearing a gold Bulova watch with alligator band, brown leather card holder, tan pleated canvas bell bottom pants, white button down shirt with orange/blue striped pattern and a red Members Only waist-length jacket. August 24, 2004 BILLY SMOLINSKI, JR, missing from Waterbury, CT., left behind his 5 year old German Shepherd named Harley, went to his neighbor's house and told the neighbor he needed them to care for the dog because he would be gone for three days & then asked them to feed the dog who was locked inside the home. The neighbor said Billy never returned with the keys to his house so they could feed the dog & he has not been heard from since.

Nov. 22, 2006 ATLANTIC CITY MURDERS DISCOVERED
On March 3, 2007, another woman’s torso, stabbed and stuffed inside a suitcase, washed ashore in Mamaroneck. One of her leg bones and her right foot with her toe nails half polished washed up from the Long Island Sound later on March 27 among the rocks in Cold Spring Harbor. On March 28, her severed leg bone washed up in a plastic bag a short distance away at the estate of Cablevision billionaire James Dolan. The rest of her has never been found. Medical examiner records show this woman was either black or Hispanic, 5’10”, 180-200 pounds and had a tattoo of two cherries above her right breast. The only clues are what was found with the body: a black Protégé suitcase manufactured by InGear—sold exclusively at Wal-Mart—a red, blood-soaked camisole with a Spanish brand label, lavender Champion sweatpants, a blue bra and a tan long-sleeved t-shirt, manufactured by Voice, and ripped up scraps of paper, possibly a page from a calendar, reading “cinco” and “begin to live.”
July 9, 2007 MAUREEN BRAINARD-BARNES DOD 7/9/2007 from Manhatten (bus station or hotel) 46th St. hotel on a Monday* *This is the Monday after the 4th of July, which was on a Wednesday that year. Police have subsequently linked her phone activity to a cell phone tower on Long Island. 25-year-old from Norwich, Connecticut. Former blackjack dealer in Connecticut. Detectives came to NY and went thru her computer. What they discovered was that the officer, who lived on Staten Island, was one of the last people to contact her through Craigslist. Brainard-Barnes was arrested by Connecticut state police in 2002 on a charge of fourth-degree larceny. She pleaded guilty in 2004 in New London Superior Court and paid a $485 fine, according to court records. Parents lived at 80 Prospect St. Norwich CONN. Had relatives who owned a house in Mays Landing and are in the hotel/casino bizz in Atlantic City.
Sept. 14, 2007 THALIA STATHIS disappears; In July, a New York state trooper found her badly decomposed human remains in a vinyl bag that had been dumped on the shoulder of the Southern State Parkway in North Merrick, N.Y
Dec. 1, 2007 WHITE MALE Cherry Ave, Sayville, 192 lbs, 5’2”, brown/gray hair, wearing a brown zippered jacket, gray sweatshirt, size 34/30 jeans, black belt, brown eyes. Struck by train. NCIC#: U-200023858
May 1, 2008 LUTRICIA STEELE, missing from Schenectady, NY. 5'4", 125 lb., caucasian, blonde hair, blue eyes. Tattoo of tiger on ankle, ribbon with the name Shawn on her left arm. Ears, tongue and nose are pierced. May have been pregnant at time of disappearance. Was going to testify against exhusband, accusing him of rape. Likely he is her killer. Was in jail at the time, would have had to have someone else kill her. See

May 25th, 2008 TAMIKA HOWARD, missing. She was a prostitute who lived in Newark, NJ but she worked around Penn Station in Manhattan and may have been spotted there the night she vanished.

6/26/2008 TANYA RUSH disappeared from Brooklyn. Dismembered woman was found stuffed in a suitcase near Newbridge Road in Bellmore off the Southern State Parkway, a 39-year-old mother of three, fingerprints were on file from a previous arrest.
July 10, 2008 – For the second time in two weeks, a body was found dumped on the side of a road on the Southern State Parkway in the North Merrick area, police said yesterday. Hands were with her body.
A “laundry-type bag” containing the badly decomposed body of an adult was found Wednesday night on the shoulder of the parkway west of Merrick Ave. in No. Merrick, State Police said. That was about a mile away, police said, from a parkway ramp at Newbridge Road in No. Bellmore where a suitcase was found on June 27 that contained the dismembered body of a Brooklyn woman. Investigators have not identified the latest victim but they suspect it is the body of a woman.
The dismembered body found two weeks ago was eventually identified as TANYA RUSH, 39, of East New York, Brooklyn, a mother of three. There have been no arrests in that case.
Sept 2008 DANIELLE RAVERT missing. She had a history of prostitution and drug use.

July 12, 2009 MELISSA BATHELEMY DOD 7/12/2009 vanished from Bronx (Underhill Ave.) sitting on curb; apt w/5 cats(Sunday)/ got call from Massapequa. LI. Eight days after Melissa's disappearance, her sister, Amanda, began to receive calls, The caller ID indicated the call came from Melissa's cellphone.
Mother said they received five more calls, the last one on August 26, 2009. Ms. Barthelemy saw a client and then deposited $900 into her bank, around the time she vanished, she checked her voice mail from Massapequa, L.I. July 10, 2009, she checked her voice mail from two motels in Massapequa, a Budget Inn and a Best Western.
They traced a second phone that belonged to her to an ex-con who said he picked it up after a tussle between hookers in Times Square orchestrated by a pimp. Boyfriend Blaze, aka Terry, Escort Agency: James Bond Entertainment as Chloe I found a single ad for Melissa posting as chloe, under the one number. She advertised various services to include Domination/BDSM & Fetish/Role Play. She advertised as out call only, charging $100/15 min, $150 half hour, $250 hour, and $1000 overnight. Her pictures indicated she did car dates as well. Earlier that evening, the blond beauty told her boyfriend that she might be going to Long Island, a frequent haunt of hers. She regularly hung out there with a girlfriend who also worked as an online escort, as well as at the home of a regular client. Her boyfriend said he would oftentimes pick her up from the john's house. "She had some older man she was chummy with." Eight days after Melissa's disappearance, her sister, Amanda, began to receive calls, The caller ID indicated the call came from Melissa's cellphone.
Lynn said they received five more calls, the last one on August 26, 2009. if we are to believe MB's boyfriend, he also received taunting calls. Interesting to note that the boyfriend says the caller appeared to be drunk. Terry said the anonymous caller called him more than 30 times over a period of eight months. Apparently on July 10, 2009, she checked her voice mail from two motels in Massapequa, a Budget Inn and a Best Western. This is from NYC 1/26/11. The significance of this is that she apparently had multiple "dates" on LI and it is close to certain that she made the two voicemail calls herself. This still places the SK in South Shore LI but not necessarily Massapequa.

Jan 20 2010 CARRIE ANN MONROE, of Berlin Conn. disappeared There is no indication that she was a working girl but she lived in a motel with a shady Boy Friends and her parents were in the dark as to her activities in the weeks leading up to he disappearance.
February 5, 2010 CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Long Island homicide detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying the bodies of a young woman and toddler found shot to death in a wooded lot.
Police described the woman as white or Hispanic in her late teens or early 20s. The child found with her was a 1- or 2-year-old boy, also white or Hispanic, reports the Associated Press.
The bodies were discovered around 7 a.m. near a Raymour and Flanigan store along Suffolk Avenue in Central Islip, reports 1010Wins.com.
Suffolk County Police Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky says a passerby found the bodies while walking to work on Friday morning, reports the Associated Press.
Pelkofsky said it appears they were killed in the woods.

April 29, 2010 JENNIFER POOLE lived in and disappeared from Islip. There is no indication that she was a Sex worker but there is no indication of work either and she lived alone apparently. Jennifer Lee Pool 39, born may 26, 1971, She went missing ca April 28 2010, that is just 3 days prior to when Shannan Gilbert went missing. Amber Costello lived at 1115 America Ave. in West Babylon, N.Y, ca 8miles from Jennifer Poole’s address?
At the time she went missing she lived 64 Mowbray Ave in Bay Shore, NY (Long Island) and that is only ca 9 miles n/w of Oak Beach.
Jun. 21, 2010 in Long Island Sound BLACK MALE , five miles north of Port Jefferson, 5’9”, 160 lbs, thick black hair, mustache and beard. No clothing on body.

6/6/2010 MEGAN WATERMAN vanished from Hauppage (Holiday Inn Express) Sunday Memorial Day weekend; last call to her daughter came the evening of June 5 at approximately 9:50 p.m. Waterman went missing after traveling to New York last Memorial Day weekend with Akeem Cruz, a 21-year-old Brooklyn man described as her boyfriend. 5-feet-5-inches tall, weighs about 145 pounds. Lorraine Ela, Megan’s mother, said her daughter had logged onto Craigslist at 12:05 a.m. on the night she went missing, and that video cameras showed her leaving the hotel at 1:30 a.m. She never returned. Akeem was busted in October on a drug charges after authorities received complaints of suspected drug trafficking from a South Portland motel room, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. He was sentenced in November to a 20-month hitch for drug trafficking, said Maine Correction Department Associate Commissioner Denise Lord. "Interestingly, two of the women had a connection to the same Holiday Inn Express, located just off the Long Island Expressway in Hauppage, New York. According to Costello's roommate Dave Schaller, the pint-size escort received a call from a john who wanted her to meet him at the hotel at 1 a.m. a few weeks before she disappeared in September 2010. And Megan Waterman was staying at the same hotel with her boyfriend when she vanished without a trace three months earlier." Sometime after MW went missing, her mother recieves a call at her place of employment from someone claiming to be LE wanting to talk about her daughter's case. She is convinced this call came from the SK and not LE. the calls stopped on June 5 last year
8/14 at 2:44 p.m. Megan Waterman, 21, of Scarborough, was arrested by Officer Frank Gorham on a charge of theft.

When Megan Waterman would travel to meet clients, she would drop off her four-year-old daughter, Lily, with her grandparents and borrow a friend's car or catch the bus from her home in Scarborough, Maine, to Long Island. She would go at the behest of her boyfriend, Akeem Cruz, who called himself 'The Vibe' and moonlighted as Megan's pimp. The couple took a bus to Long Island last spring and checked in at a hotel on Long Island. They left together at 8pm and Megan returned half an hour later by herself. At 1.30am she got a call on her mobile phone from Cruz's mobile, and she left her room. A witness last spotted Waterman outside, walking toward an all-night shop. It was the last time she was seen alive.
