The only time I listen to Rush or Hannity is when I'm in the car with my husband. He always seeks out stations that they are on for the "entertainment". It isn't these radio hosts that entertain him, though, it's me. He seems to get a kick out of the fact that when they say something I disagree with, I start talking back to them, with my voice getting louder and louder. It never fails that he says "you do realize they can't hear you, don't you?
Maral, I do the same thing with NPR.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I hate to say it, but if the IrishMister insisted on listening to Rush- we'd have to take separate vehicles.

Seriously.

This has been a most interesting thread! Our TV networks offer abc, cbs and a couple other USA news/entertainment shows - I saw the full MJF / RL issue last night and again this morning with Katie Couric interviewing MJF.

Reading here, I can see most/all sides of this argument and I perceive Dark Knight's voice as such: that RJs (Radio Jocks where I live = DJs to others) are as different worldwide as our fingerprints; the character of the RJ draws his/her audience accordingly - and if we don't like that particular show, subject or RJ ... then sure, switch-off or opt for another station. Hoo-eva ... in this case I believe Rush L conveyed too personal a judgement on a very ill, much loved man and even if RL thought MJF was 'acting', he did little to compensate for the immense amount of work, time, money and effort that MJF has contributed to Parkinsons. To me, he seemed to jeer at MJF - and to mock anyone with a life debilitating or terminal disease calls for a foul.

Would RL claim Liz Taylor 'acts' when wheelchair bound? Would he claim Christopher Reeve exploited his tragic accident to promote stem-cell research? No, I would certainly hope not. It's my opinion that RL judged the person and not the subject - and perhaps did so for mass-reaction (which he received alrighty). Maybe he really thought he was being funny; if so then that tells me the mindset he is trying to appeal toward or encourage similar human mockery.

If involved, I wouldn't lobby for RL to be pulled off air; instead I'd hope RL offers a genuine apology and full retractment without being asked to do so (his, er, apology was buffered and parenthesized by arepeat judgement of his views) .... and maybe make good by donating or promoting to MJF's worthy cause. It's not a perfect world, though :) JMHO

Here is the slant Rush is starting to take.

He is now saying basically that he was right. Fox did not take his medications for the commercial. Therefore He, as in Rush, said NOTHING WRONG...

So...even if Fox did not take his meds SO WHAT?

The point is Rush is an insensitve jerk in my opinion.

I think that if Fox did not take his medication then good for him. He needed to show what is was like to live with this disease.

Now if Fox was faking it, which is what Rush accused him of too, then that would be a different story, but he did not fake it. He didn't need to.

Honest to Goodness, Rush never ceases to amaze me with his cold and stupid remarks.

If the Republicans were not going to lose big in Nov. they are now. They can thank Rush for the perception of the Republicans being cruel and uncaring people.

I am not saying Republicans are cruel and uncaring. Of course they are not but when Limbaugh comes out with this type of crap it just makes it easy for the Democrats to make the accusations of cruel and uncaring.

I guess this should be in the Political forum 'eh?

Don't ban me please....I know not what I post..;)

Not long ago I watched a program that had both Michael J Fox and Mohammad Ali along with their wives. Michael J Fox said that he has to take his meds at certain times or he is non-fuctional. He said in the morning he can't do anything at all. It showed him after he first got up and it made me feel so bad. You would never know that it is him. Both of the men were right up front about their diseases and how it affects them. It seemed that Ali can't really talk anymore but he made his points in his own way. The show was sad yet these two men are just doing their best to keep living their lives as best that they can. Michael J doesn't feel sorry for himself...he probably does at times...but he isn't walking around on a pity pot.

What was the creep doing...saying that Michael J didn't take his meds on purpose because then people would get the full affect of his disease? I hope they do approve stem cell usage. They have already done the research haven't they? It would be wonderful if this horrible disease could be cured or slowed.

Doesn't Michael J Fox have a sister that was born with spina bifita..sp...? It seems I remember him raising money a long time ago for research for this disease.

Rush L. doesn't have any business running anyone down. Michael didn't make this disease happen for pity sake. Look what Rush did because of his disease! He's lucky he didn't land in jail.

I heard a little snippet on local radio this morning about Katie Couric interviewing Michael J. Fox. She asked him about what Rush had said. He said (and I'm not quoting) that if people pray about it, research it, and think really hard about it and decide that they don't approve of stem cell research then he respects their opinion. He said he had done all those things and decided he was for it. This man has so much class.

I sincerely hope that Rush has enough class to apologize in a meaningful way.

...He and Ann Coulter cross way too many lines in my opinion... Ridiculing people with serious diseases (RL), homeless people and the poor (RL), and the widows and families of 911 victims (AC) is not a "hoot" IMO... But, to each his/her own, I guess...

My Dad and aunt used to be Limbaugh fans back in the day, I would occasionally hear a show or two. I felt like he had good points sometimes, but that he often took things too far (from the sublime to the ridiculous so to speak!)

He gets people talking - that's for sure - but I usually prefer less divisive fare! I only like divisiveness when I'M on the soapbox...LOL!!!:)
The biggest problem with Rush is his double standard beliefs. He can chastise a Democrat for something but excuse a Republican for the same thing. Rush is disgusting.

However, I personally believe that the government should not fund embronic stem cell research. That doesn't keep it from happening with private funds, just not with our tax money. I'd like to see more done with cord blood which is routinely thrown away.

Pepper,

Perhaps this is not the place to discuss this but your reference to the cord blood has peaked my interest. Perhaps you could provide some information concerning this or a link to something for those such as myself who may not realize the potential use of the cord blood ? I admit to my ignorance of this so any direction would be appreciated. TIA

This is one site, but just google up "cord blood research" and you'll get gobs of information.

I see no reason to use human embryos that will be destroyed for this research when there is so much cord blood and placenta cells available. JMHO

Yep I agree, to each his own. It's all about perspective and how much power one gives these personalities. I don't give any of them much thought or power.

Thanks Pepper !

Will look into this quickly - there is a major amendment (amendment 2) coming up for vote here in Missouri - need to have ideas and try to figure my way through this vote - you've given me some help - thanks again!

My father died from a complication of his Parkinsons Disease, called Lewy Bodies. Even so, I am not in favor of stem cell research using human embryos either Pepper.

Thank you to Linwood Barclay of the Toronto Star for this "entertaining" article.

EDS - Extreme Dick Syndrome - Rush L.

1) Exhibits a level or arrogance rooted in feelings of superiority, without having any attributes to feel superior about.

2) Is capable of a level of hypoprisy(ralling against drug addicts when you are one, for example) previously thought unattainable.

3) Blow hardedness

4) Is indifferent to the woes and misfortune of the disadvantage

5) Lies his *advertiser censored** off.

6) Goes to the 6 itmes or less checkout line with a dozen items.

7) Never lets ignorance of a subject keep him from shooting his mouth off about it

8) Believes that facts are overrated

9) Chews with his mouth open

10) Always finds some little thing the waitress did wrong to justify not leaving a tip

Anyone who has four or more of these symptoms is likely suffering from EDS.

May I add: Rude and insensitive. Ignorant 24/7. If I am "wrong" about RL, and he is not "suffering" from EDS but only "acting like a dick" then I guess an apology is in order. Not.

You guys realize that these embryos will be destroyed anyway, right?

And are, by the thousands and more. If that is a problem, then a bunch of infertility clinics are a much, much worse problem than stem cell researchers.

Oh, so he's kinda like Stephen Colbert, except without being funny OR thought-provoking...
Pretty much. Or like any number of DJs who would have you believe they're up all hours of the day and night, partying hearty, woo-hoo, when in reality they're 300 lb dudes who drive Taurus SWs and play D&D on the weekend. There might be a portion of their own personality involved in the character, but what you hear isn't "them". Hell, most DJs subscribe to joke-writing and snappy-banter writing services, unless they came up through improv comedy and skit writing. It's showbiz, baby.

OMGosh..I used to date a guy that was a DJ. He had this nice sweet sexy voice.....but in reality, after I took the engagement ring...he was a sorry sob. Whew...got out of that before it was too late. He was the guy that was later arrested for rigging a contest in Houston by letting his Mother in law win a truck that his radio station was giving away. He had to stand at the Rice game wearing a sign! That judge was creative. His name was Tim Trostle. What a jerk he turned out to be. Here is something else he got his big fat mouth into...see the second headline down.:loser:

http://archer2000.tripod.com/lawdisorder/lawback4.html Geeze...glad I got out of that relationship! What a freaking loser!!!

LOL!!!!!!!!! Yes we susbscribe to comedy writing services. Most of our personalities are simply our own personality with the volumn turned up, so to speak. But some become completely different characters, too. Guys like Stern, Rush, etc. are likely playing a role as much as anything. And it's made them millions!
