IMO China is watching and responding while keeping an eye on Taiwan. I feel there is a massive chess game underway. A scary one at that.
Taiwan warns Chinese aircraft in its air defence zone

China and Russia sitting in a room together and decide that Russia gets Ukraine, China gets Hong Kong and Taiwan. Australia is in China's sights. The UK might be in Russia's sights. It does seem like a chess game, one where the opponent is still sleeping.

Dear @Tiff23fr,

Thank you for your insightful post as well as the link!

A "massive chess game" indeed.

Chinese embassy in Ukraine tells citizens to display Chinese flags on vehicles | National Post

Excerpt:

BEIJING — China’s embassy in Kyiv told its citizens in Ukraine to stay home or at least take the precaution of displaying a Chinese flag on their vehicles if they needed to drive anywhere, following Russia’s attack on the country.

Everyone needs to fly a Chinese Flag on their vehicles.

BBC News had something from Boris Johnson questioning why Russian news is broadcast in the UK. It must be related.

Silicon Valley Companies Worried About Cyber Attacks From Russia – NBC Bay Area
''Russia is not only invading Ukraine, but also hitting the country with a baggage of cyber attacks targeting banks and businesses, shutting down websites and spreading dangerous misinformation.

And Silicon Valley companies fear they could be targeted next.

Inside cyber security company Barracuda Networks, they refer to a certain area as the "war room.”

"We wanna be on the forefront to detect and stop the attack at the very beginning," said Chief Technology Officer Fleming Shi.

He said they're tracking chaos the minute by minute moves not of Russian ground troops, but cyber attacks.''

More than 1,700 people detained in widespread Russian protests against Ukraine invasion | CBC News
''Shocked Russians turned out by the thousands Thursday to decry their country's invasion of Ukraine as emotional calls for protests grew on social media.

Around 1,745 people in 54 Russian cities were detained, at least 957 of them in Moscow, according to OVD-Info, which has documented crackdowns on Russia's opposition for years.

Hundreds of posts came pouring in condemning Moscow's most aggressive actions since the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.''

Well, cryptocurrency certainly dilutes sanctions!…

Financial sanctions are easier than ever for Russians to evade. Thank Bitcoin - CNN

But digital currencies operate outside the realm of standard global banking, with transactions recorded on a public ledger known as the blockchain.

"If the Russians decide — and they're already doing this, I'm sure — to avoid using any currency other than cryptocurrency, they can effectively avoid virtually all of the sanctions," said Ross S. Delston, an expert on anti-money laundering compliance.

The US Treasury is well aware of this problem. In an October report, officials warned that digital currencies "potentially reduce the efficacy of American sanctions" by allowing bad actors to hold and transfer funds outside the traditional financial system. "We are mindful of the risk that, if left unchecked, these digital assets and payments systems could harm the efficacy of our sanctions."

What happens next? More strategic operations like airports, financial centres, infrastructure that allows people to leave the country? Has anyone heard about an emergency NATO meeting?

Extraordinary virtual summit of NATO Heads of State and Government

NATO Heads of State and Government will meet via secure teleconference on Friday 25 February 2022, to discuss the security situation in and around Ukraine.

The meeting will be chaired by the NATO Secretary General, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg. He will brief the press after the meeting, from NATO Headquarters.

I was wondering where Zelenskyy is now. Normally he is in the official residence in Kyiv, the Mariinskyi Palace.

But before the invasion, the plan was that he would relocate to Lviv in western Ukraine, which is about 50 miles from the Polish border. U.S. officials discussed Ukrainian president leaving capital if Russia attacks

I read earlier from his own statement that he and his family are targeted.

Deutschmarks became worthless overnight due to war. Owning that currency meant investing in a corrupt system, no legal recourse. Inspiration for all sorts of good sci fi movies.

Up until now I heard no sounds on the live feed. Now at 4:43 a.m. there, I can now hear distant sounds - seems like the sounds of shelling.

What does it sound like to you?
