I have a feeling that he won't serve very much time. I could be wrong, of course. I'd hate to generalize and I hope this isn't the case here but men like him typically don't stick around very long in prison. MOO

As far as appeals go...Yeah right!! Alex completely, for lack of a better term, peed all over all South Carolina's judicial system for decades, all of the SLED and local police departments, 1st responders, friends and all his business partners, who are all aligned with judges, lawyer's and all South Carolina law enforcement divisions, the DEA, the Secret Service of the United States who I might add will be doing business with them again. Not to mention the fact that Judge Newman is highly respected in the courts here AND the fact that other judges here in SC are reluctant to rule against other SC judges. It's going to be impossible for this verdict to be over turned. The State of South Carolina has had enough of Alex Murdaugh.

He also has about another 100 charges that he's already admitted to that are going to put him away for life anyway! So what exactly is the point?? Does anyone really think that both Griffin and DH are going to go to bat for him again? Hell, they practically ruined their reputaions defending this guy. He didn't listen to their advice and took the stand thus sinking their case and their careers! Who's going to defend him in such a futile adventure ?It's not going to happen.

He's embarrassed the entire state. There is nothing left for him to do but serve out his sentence and shut the hell up!

Gosh I hope you are right.

If AM is seriously going to appeal -- what vanity! He would rather bankrupt whomever is underwriting his legal fees than accept what he is due. He is truly an a$$ wh0le. Like duhhh! MOO.
His lawyers, Griffin and Harpootlian, are not going to support an appeal. They came onboard for Paul's boat accident and were lampooned into defending Alex's murder charges.

Alex's lawyers seemed to step aside when the verdict was read. It was Harpootlian's last trial, his last stance on truth and justice; an enormous fail. He is only as good as his last verdict. Harpootlian will never have another trial that aces this. He endorsed the family name, and was fooled.

Alex needs new lawyers for his appeal. He will never stop calling the shots. I hope the prison where he serves is aware of his polished dangerous personality.

Aside from the murder conviction, Murdaugh has also been charged with around 100 counts of crimes, financial and otherwise, linked to his legal practice and funds he admitted he stole.

What happens to Alex Murdaugh’s assets now that he has been convicted of the murder of his wife and son?
“Our lane is to find the assets, protect the assets, liquidate the assets, to create a fund for the victims of Mr. Murdaugh,” Lay said in an interview with Dan Abrams.

He added: “There’s not enough money to solve all the problems.”

THIS! I can’t explain it well enough but it was a point of no return for him. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the famous pet names and for a quick minute I thought my feed cut to something else.

The irony of him thinking those names and his tone were going to disarm the jury but it did the opposite. He will regret that for the rest of his life!
yes! OMG! and the state calling him out on it! would it have been better just to say MY WIFE MAGGIE or MY SON PAUL...ummm yes, would have been kind of normal (if we can use that term for anything AM related)...this ru ruse was jaw dropping!

Paul Murdaugh’s friend, Rogan Gibson, testified that he heard Alex Murdaugh’s voice in the background of a phone call and video from the night the disgraced lawyer’s wife and son were killed. Gibson testified that he is 100 percent positive the third voice heard with Maggie and Paul is the disbarred South Carolina attorney.

I'm going to stick up for my state here. We've had some pretty horrible crimes happen here in the last 7 yrs starting with the murder of Walter Scott by policeman Michael Slager. He was found guilty.

We had the absolutely awful mass shooting of a prayer group at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church by someone I won't name and it was found guilty.

And now this. All the people charged in these highly volatile crimes were served due process, got fair trials and were convicted for their crimes. There were no riots or violence after the fact. The communities came together and JUSTICE was served. I'm so freakin proud of this area and the way the all these different communities came together and let the wheels of justice run their course!

These were high profile cases and the rest of the country looked in on us and have seen things come together in the end. There might have been some rough spots, and there were a lot of opportunities for things to get crazy and out of control and they didn't. There is grace and justice here and I'm damn proud of all South Carolinian's in the way these last 7 years have transpired.

For those still waiting for justice and retribution, there is some hope that justice will prevail and you can get a fair shake down here. As A. G Alan Wilson said, it's a great day for the people of South Carolina! I love this state!!!!! I love Charleston and am so happy to call this place home!

As a fellow SC native I will add that this case was huge for SCians in ways I‘m not sure out of staters could understand. It was not just a brutal double murder, it was trying the untryable…if that’s a word.
All South Carolinans know families like the Murdaughs. We understood how they controlled that part of the state and we understood how people like DH helped perpetuate it. People like the Murdaughs were never charged, never tried, never even questioned about things.
This was a watershed moment for us and we hung on every word of this trial. To see him led away in handcuffs was exquisite. A “ding dong the witch is dead” moment.
For SC to put someone like AM on trial was astonishing. To watch it carried out so spectacularly was awesome. To watch AM still expecting things to tilt his way until the very end was expected and laughable.
Like Derph I am so proud tonight.

Between this and him taking the stand, I thought/hoped it would seal a conviction. He's just so full of himself.

They are already working on the appeal. They believe the judge was biased, admission of other crimes, among other complaints. I’m sure they will say something about the egg juror.

I just watched DH going on record protesting the removal of the egg juror -- citing the distrust of Sled interviewing witnesses associated with the complaint. Judge Newman shut that down citing the court personally interviewed the parties.

I think we can guess why the defense would protest the removal of the specific juror (egg juror) based on the opinion she expressed to others.

Did I read here that Judge Newman has never had any of his cases overturned on appeal?

I don't know how to look that up.
He has been overturned before. See, for example: https://www.sccourts.org/opinions/HTMLFiles/COA/5514.pdf

This really doesn’t mean a thing, though. He’s been a judge for a long time. If you see the number of cases he has, you are bound to be overturned at some point. Being overturned doesn’t make one a bad judge. It makes one human.

This jury deliberated from 3:50 to 6:41 (even less if you subtract how ever long it took to fill out the forms and hand it to the baliff)

So approximately...

2 hrs and 51 mins

I still can't believe it:oops:
They might have taken an initial vote and all 12 said Guilty, then at that point there wasn't a lot to do.

yes I agree they probably did an initial vote, then talked about the evidence that enabled them to decide guilty. there was a plethora of evidence to choose from to connect the dots.

I'm not sure that the juror's opinion was what he was mad about, it does sound more like he was using this as another chance to make the trial about Sled.

Like Derph I am so proud tonight.

I so much appreciated the SC natives that shared with us the reality of the State including the low country as personally experienced and known to them.

I can recall being taken back two years ago when independent journalists would confirm as fact stories I was certain were social media in the weeds!

Just as I was proud for the youth that made the conscious decision to risk standing up to the Murdaugh machine and speak up about the boat crash while their respective families feared for the safety of these kids, I hope more will be empowered by this verdict to say enough already -- you have no power over me. MOO

There are almost always unanswered questions in a murder investigation. There are usually facts and details we learn along the way that simply don't matter and never did.

On Wed., March 1, after lunch, during closing remarks, CW talks about Paul and the phone that "popped". If one listens very carefully, CW solemnly tells the jury some very important stuff. It's available on any livestream from Wed's trial. I will never be the same. Buster may have seen for the first time what the jury saw. More than anything, I think that's why he couldn't look at his father after his conviction.

But, to answer your question, perhaps Alex didn't want Paul's phone. Maybe Paul had something in one of his pockets that Alex really wanted. Maybe that's why he wanted to turn Paul over. Maybe he figured it out like he told SLED. Did Paul find Alex's pain pills when Alex took his shower? Is that why Alex rode the golf cart to the kennels? He wanted his pain pills back?

Alex didn't realize he screwed up leaving the phone at the kennels until AUG when he video surfaced.
I doubt that Alex tried to turn Paul over, where Paul's phone popped out of his back pocket. Paul was face down in the gravel with is brain sitting in the dirt next to his feet. Paul kept his phone in his back pocket. Alex said that he turned Paul over (in less than 17 seconds) to check his pulse even though Paul's brain was sitting beside his feet.

Given the convictions, it seems more likely that Alex pulled Paul's phone out of his back pocket after he was dead, couldn't get into the phone, and tossed the phone onto Paul's back - not realizing that Paul made a video at 8:44 PM while Alex "was sleeping."

That is the man who was Paul's father. Not surprising that Paul was off kilter.

I never figured out what SLED had to do with egg juror...
